To honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr in some way that isn't immediately clear, Boston has just unveiled a 10 million dollar sculpture of a bald man giving oral sex between a woman's spread legs as he grasps her thigh and cradles her big, beautiful bronze butt with his free hand.
Granted, that's not supposed to be what the sculpture depicts, but to paraphrase the old saying: "I may not know art, but I know what the hell that looks like."
In reality, the sculpture is intended to look like the arms - and only the arms - of Dr. King and his wife exchanging a quick hug after he won the Nobel peace prize by making the world safe for preposterously overpriced public art. Art which, regardless of race, creed, culture, national origin, gender orientation, or political affiliation, we can all hate equally.
"But wait," you say - still apparently unclear about the uselessness of talking back to the printed page, "the sculpture probably looks much better from less salacious angles!" But does it...?
Well, no.
Seeing millions of dollars wasted like this is always frustrating but, in this case, it also saddens and enrages me because Dr. King's dream deserves better. Not just symbolically but in practice and policy.
Because somewhere along the way, we've fallen from Dr. King's mountaintop. Or rather, we were pushed by the political and cultural provocateurs who continue to benefit from racial inequity and division. So perhaps it is their arms that this abominable sculpture sadly represents.

Ten MILLION dollars for that atrocity? Let's just call this Exhibit "A" in my campaign against publicly funded art.
The only thing that would make it better is to have bought this mess from china.
From one angle, it looks like someone holding up a large sea slug, or a section of someone’s colon. Did no one notice how hideous this is during construction? Must have been a case of the “Emperor’s New Clothes”—no one wanted to speak up.
No matter what it is supposed to represent, it is offensive at least and ludicrously expensive at worst! Democrats in action!!
Oh. My. Gosh.....
Seeing what sort of statues they prefer to pull down (e.g., of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, etc.) and what sort they prefer to put up (e.g., this ... this ... ) [sorry, my English vocabulary fails me]
You're absolutely right, Stilt, Dr. King's dream deserves better.
I think it is great yesterday they spent 10 millions of a women's delicate, graceful, stroking hands cradling a HUGE bronze colored cocktail for all the world to see how much women appreciate how much the male black race was endowed. I do fail to see that an organ larger than the females waist probably would not really fit into a black ladies womb, but then again it would not be for the lack of trying on the males part.
Seeing this yesterday, my first thought of was the meme of the Democrat Party - the one of the guy doubled over with his head up his ass. While Dr King no longer treads this mortal coil his descendants do and they should be rightfully outraged.
Bet the 'artist' whose fevered mind should be elsewhere, who created this 'sculpture' , belongs to the same school of 'art', which nails a banana to a wall in the name of 'art'.
BTW, many may not know this, but today is also Robert E. Lee's birthday. The irony, of the irony.
As to Joe le Petomane, if news is to be believed, even the some democrats are turning on him. Might 2023 turn out to be a good year?
Only thing that would make this abomination look better is an acetylene torch.
I agree with "Anonymous" on this one with a different quote, "there's nothing wrong with this that a couple of tons of dynamite couldn't fix"!
This also reminds me of a person describing a gifted speaker... "my, isn't he a cunning linguist?"
So, who is the "artist" responsible for this abomination? Judging by the apparent lack of talent and the ginormous price tag, I'd be tempted to say Hunter Biden.
I think you just haven't seen this sculpture in the right way. It's best viewed on a moonless night, from Albania.
Melt it down into grapeshot and sent it to Ukraine.
Another observation after a few cups of morning coffee. As with all projects of this ilk, the concept and final product was vetted, by a group of 'experts'/ representatives of the community(?) before the veiling of this travesty. So while many wish to attack the 'artist' of this farce masquerading as 'art', keep in mind there are other guilty parties too.
Dr King's dream has been pushed aside by the current regime's return to blatant racism.
@TrickyRicky: I'll second that.
With the right angles and settings, most anything can be beautiful.
For example, this piece would be absolutely lovey is launched from a trebuchet into the mouth of an active volcano!
IF, no is. Grrrrrrr.
While deleting President's Day here in the Virginia Beach School System when there is a day that has to be deleted like for snow, George Washington is the heel, while MLK is the hero. Our General of the American Revolution, Founding Father and First President is downed, because he happened to own slaves, while that serial adulterer, MLK is honored. 10% Blacks rule here!
Exactly.
This is a very fitting tribute to . The FBI has documented proof of the orgies he conducted in his hotel rooms and the many affairs he had over the years. He is not going to be exposed because the natives would go berserk if you told the truth about their idol. MLK Jr is a fraud.
We could all do our part and visit this mess, holler out your interpretation of it, or any other absurd thing we see, and have a good laugh. Seeing it in person and looking at it from different angles and telling others what you see could offend many. Just have your running shoes on. To be appreciated, modern art should be looked at with imagination. Your imagination has made my day.
@ Jee said-Must have been a case of the “Emperor’s New Clothes”—no one wanted to speak up.
In my opinion it was more a case of anyone trying to say anything truthful about it would have been accused of being racist, and no one had the testicular endowment to do so.
"What we have here...is failure to communicate". Apparently the unappreciative members of Stilton's online family doesn't get the artistic message of the artist. But is the failure that of the sculptor or the audience?
Not to insult anyone here, I don't completely understand it myself. Rather than oral copulation it looks to me more like someone has their head up an ass.
Perhaps the sculptor?
@Anonymous: While I don't deny MLK definitely had clay feet, keep in mind others more widely venerated have had too. F'r instance, while he was in England, Benjamin Franklin participated in the nocturnal activities for the Hellfire Club. A club devoted it seems to group oriented pleasures of the flesh.
Murphy(AZ) Got it correct. He wins the prize. Well most every post wins the prize.
That humming sound is MLK Jr. hitting 25,000 RPM.
As for Sloppy Joe, well, the bus fumes are getting stronger...or will they push him under the Acela?

@Readers- I'm really enjoying reading your comments. And to get serious in my art analysis for a moment, my biggest problem (outside of the ugliness of the piece) is that it celebrates MLK Jr only as a man rather than as a symbol of something larger and more important. MLK Jr's indiscretions are well-documented, making a sculpture (based on a famous photo) of him hugging his wife simultaneously ironic and trivial.
I have no great love for Dr. King the man...but I have huge respect for his message. He pointed in the direction of freedom for all of us. It is that message that should be recognized and memorialized...though preferably for less than $10 million that might be better spent on actually helping those most in need.
As others have raised here, I'm always amazed that some monstrosity like this sculpture has to be approved by legions of people to come into being, which begs the question of how they could all be idiots. And it's likely that they weren't all idiots, but there was no safe or politically correct avenue of challenging a Black artist's design of an MLK monument without being accused of racism or Uncle Tom-ism.
Dr. King's dream and the taxpayers who funded this fiasco deserved better.
Yet another reason to stay the hell away from Boston, but I do have sympathy for the taxpayers who (likely unknowingly) paid for this piece of excrement. I agree with the above mentioned torch, dynamite AND trebuchet all combined. Then launch it to Uranus.
@Fish,
It's becoming ever more obvious that Joe is being shit canned by his own party. But dammit... that leaves us with president Harris! Gaaaaa!!!! And we know she'll appoint some douche-nozzle like Ayanna Pressley to be VP.
"I have no great love for Dr. King the man...but I have huge respect for his message."
MLK's message is so contrary to contemporary woke Progressivism that I've been arguing that we're just moments away from his being depersoned. Perhaps this sculpture is part of that.
As for the price, Elon Musk (an African-American) is shooting satellites into space for less.
Colby, worry not. Kamala would only be President for six months before she would be shit-canned and replaced by her Veep:Pretty Pretty Gavin Newsome.
"Art" by committee...
I've seen the photo this "art" is supposedly based on and if the two huggers' heads were at least hinted at, this thing wouldn't look like what it really is: the taxpayers of Boston holding up for worship a gigantic turd. Hey Boston, you voted for it!
@rickn8or, Crimony, I had not even considered pretty pretty. Talk about a douche-nozzle. He may be the only person alive that could make Kamala look semi-intelligent.
American Cowboy,
You just reminded me of one of my favorite comments (I made up), "What did the large gonad say to the small gonad? 'My, we're a little teste, aren't we?'"
Sadly, the first thing that came to my mind about this sculpture was: https://youtu.be/Ju1UwmgkKgI Such an insult to the memory of MLK.
I've been "away" in Covid isolation but am feeling much better now. It doesn't seem like I missed much worthwhile in the news while out of touch.
On this figurine "The Embrace" I'm just not sure what we're supposed to be seeing. Both heads missing and the neck lines just kind of erased...? Rounded over? Is that correct? It's bizarre. And I don't think it's more brain fog on my part. File it under "Scam Art"... if were to file it at all.
Well, I do have one good thing to say about the MLK sculpture: It's proof that Americans from all over the political spectrum can still come together and share a unified voice on something.
It's messed up when black people and the Proud Boys hate the same thing.

I was thinking "huge impacted Colon from The Mutter Museum".

Loved the Mutter Museum when I lived in Philly...
@CC & M.Mitchell Marmel- Dang, I didn't know anyone but me knew about the Mutter Museum! No wonder I like you folks!
