Fly your flags, celebrate with family and friends, and enjoy the fireworks (the actual fireworks, as opposed to the ones that go off every time President Trump sends a tweet).
Most importantly, remember what Independence Day is all about - and give thanks to those past and present who protect our freedoms!
That is a fine start for tomorrow. Family time at the lake, enjoying me sons award winning BBQ, the children riding the lake on the pontoon boat, and I'll probably take a nap. It is a wonderful thing to celebrate the fourth. Imagine, 240 years ago trying out a new form of government with the subjects in charge. I imagined they suffered the same problems we suffer today as a government of, for and by the people boggles the mind. Ya'll have a safe and happy 4th.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate the Lee Greenwood accompaniment, but this is my favorite fireworks display. Something similar was done in Louisville as part of the Derby celebrations.

ReplyDeleteEvery year, on the Sunday closest to July 4th, my church does a Patriotic Praise service. It is a real church service but totally honors all military and service workers. They have all patriotic songs, a 21 gun salute for vets, who are asked to the front, pledge of allegiance, etc. It's wonderful and I can't get through it with dry eyes. This is what middle America is about.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, due to extremely dry conditions here in AZ because our Monsoons have not arrived yet, we are under Stage II fire restrictions. That means no fires of any kind including charcoal grills, no smoking outdoors, no driving over vegetation in the forest, no shooting, no chainsaws or gas powered tools of any type, and obviously no fireworks.
ReplyDeleteTherefore, Independance Day celebrations will be quite subdued. Ahh well, at least beer and liquor are still legal.

Mrs. Econ & I will be blessed with visiting loved ones from far away, and enjoying the kinds of freedoms that we know are only available in this country. We're blessed.

Our small community here in Utah has a patriotic devotional every year on the Sunday prior to the 4th of July. Always well attended and always fantastic. We have a early morning community breakfast, a parade, all kinds of booths and fun for the kids topped off by a fabulous fireworks display. What a grand day to celebrate the grandest country on earth. May God bless the USA indeed! Happy Independence day to all, especially all who are serving and have served in the military of this great nation. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteA bit of trivia for you. "The Star Spangled Banner" has four verses, but our National Anthem only has three verses. The third verse of "The Star Spangled Banner" was not included in our Nationl Anthem.

ReplyDeleteMy father and my grandparents came to America in the early 20s, through Ellis Island. Found their records on line. In spite of the problems we have here, most of the people on this planet would like to live here. Will celebrate the 4th in their memory. And, to top it off, my mother will be 94 tomorrow, so I will phone her and wish her a happy birthday also. God bless America and Mom !!

ReplyDeleteIf bozo's would practice good fireworks and fire awareness, we wouldn't have communities, counties, and states banning the GOOD fireworks...
But, has anybody other than me saved some of the big boomers for New Years Day? I really enjoy watching fireworks in the Winter night sky, reflecting off of all the snow.
Glad I came back this evening to look at later posts. Thanks to all. Today started in a funk but due to several things it got better. Details not important. Yes for long term average we indeed have a "greatest" nation but I'm concerned the trend last few years is below the mark. On the other hand every generation has their concerns so what do I know? The main thing I think I know is don't believe bullshit. I've paid my dues; I've been around the block & around the world. I have some valid observations; but never mind now. Happy B-day USA & must lighten up.
ReplyDeleteMe again. Back in the days of foolish youth I tossed a cherry bomb back behind my car to land in front of a buddy's car behind us at a stoplight. He happed to drive the front tire right on top when it went off; it blew a good Kelly-Springfield tire off the wheel. Pressure came up inside the tire & removed it from the wheel. I paid for the damage and learned my lesson. Much more recently a young girl we know (young teens) had a tossed Black Cat or equal go off near her cheek, it eventually healed up OK but that real stupidity was a close one for her eye. Tell the younger more protected ones to be safe rather then sorry with fireworks.

These are wacky days, but I have no doubts about this being the greatest country on Earth (and in History, for that matter) and that the good folks outnumber the bad.
