Risibility is in short supply today, owing to an overabundance of bad news converging from multiple fronts (and no, that's not a weather joke). Combine that with the weariness we're feeling from our ongoing remodeling adventure and we just don't quite have the strength to find much to laugh at today.
Or at least we didn't until daughter Jarlsberg sent us this cartoon this morning...
Well, it struck
us as funny. But then, it's that kind of day. Or maybe just the fact that we've been inhaling WAY too many paint fumes lately...
Maybe Antifa was the "canary in the coal mine" for the Left, seeing just how far the American people could be pushed?
ReplyDeleteHope the remodeling is continuing apace. Will give "getting back to normal" a whole new meaning and appreciation!
So, I'm sitting here listening to the hurricane blow against the house and wondering what we'll find when the sun rises, top that off with the fact that it's 9-11 and I'm still pissed off
ReplyDelete... and then I read a poop joke. Oy!
Ya know, as far as I'm concerned given these conditions, this is the only way to face today.
Thanks for the much-needed laugh, Stilt
It's so windy ("how windy is it?") it is so windy that one of my chickens laid the same egg four times. Hahahahahahahahafartbarf. OK, where did I put my moonshine?
ReplyDeleteIt looks glum outside. Glum = grey and damp. Waiting in line for Irma, supposed to be here about dinner time. ( Funny, I don't remember inviting her.) On the plus side she seems to be running out of steam. Winds down to 40-60 and only 4 to 6 inches of rain. Hardly seems worth having if that is all we get. That is of course tongue in cheek. I am truly grateful to be living here in the upstate. (SC) We are waiting to hear from relatives in FL.
ReplyDeleteIrma seems to have taken over the news, what a relief for the Donald! Just wondering what the news will look like the day after the rapture, "grin". There has been a good amount of warning. I wonder how many have heeded and prepared. We have known it was coming for over 2000 years. That is sufficient time for anyone to prepare.
Bright sunny, mid 70's here, perfect for mowing the lawn.
ReplyDelete>sigh<
Flooding is still very much present in Houston & vicinity and traffic is terrible due to still-closed routes but people are trying to get back to normal. Somehow all that "good" reaction in Texas is not newsworthy; they're still trying hype up Irma. Even though Houston's damage is far more important to the nation.
ReplyDeleteAnd is it racist to notice the first looters caught in Miami were poop-colored?
Yes I suppose it is; and I don't care. Facts are facts.
Also noticed the on the scene reporting of Irma arrival on west coast of Florida kept jumping ahead (north) to the arrival of the north eyewall, so the reporters could do their wind & rain dances in front of the camera and about ten feet from shelter. But they did not remain to show the arrival of any back side storm surge later. I guess new producers have a pretty narrow view of what sells.
@Mike aka Proof states "Maybe Antifa was the "canary in the coal mine" for the Left, seeing just how far the American people could be pushed?"
ReplyDeleteI think Antifa is actually the new paramilitary arm of far-left Democrats for 21st century, just as the KKK was a century ago. They self-righteously say and do what the supposedly more moderate leftists feel, just as the "radical" Islamists say and do what the supposedly "moderate" Muslims agree with.
How can you tell? How many Democrats seem the least bit upset about their antics? In fact, they actually defend them more than anything else. (Reaction to Trump's comments post Charlottesville) I've actually offended some of my Progressive friends by calling them what they really are, fascists.
Speaking of Antifa, here's New Orwellian Term I learned last week:
Preemptive self-defense.
Stilton, if all the above-mentioned bad news were not enough, I wake up this morning to learn of a mass shooting right here in our hometown, Plano. Apparently some nut opened fire in his own home at a Cowboys watching party, killed seven and wounded two. He was then subsequently shot by the police. Details are sketchy still, but it makes me ill. There go our stellar crime statistics in one night.
ReplyDeleteStilton,
ReplyDeleteHang in there, dude! I'm sure it's only two more weeks of sleeping on cots and crapping in a bucket!
Irma: I'm almost disappointed (almost) that Irma veered West. We are only getting a little breeze and some rain showers here in central NC. I had big plans to go smash some windows, and score myself a new 85" TV, and some free beer and cigarettes. And then blame it on my socio-economic standing... and Trump.
@Rod,
Did you see the video of the weather reporter "Boldly risking her life by braving the hurricane, in order to bring you the latest updates," then two guys rode by on bicycles? I got a kick out of that one!
@John the Econ,
Oh no, you are so wrong. We are the fascists. It's true; I read it on Facebook. And the KKK were all Republicans. Read that on Facebook too.
@Mike aka Proof- I think antifa represents something more sinister. Although they may end up finding out how far Americans can be pushed before they push back.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the remodeling, I can't even imagine "getting back to normal" anymore. No, really.
@Bobo the Hobo- I had to keep things quick in today's cartoon because if I actually opined while in a bleak mood, I'd just bring everyone down. So yes, a poop joke seemed in order (and not a subtle one!)
@Fred Ciampi- I have nothing to add to that. Pass the moonshine!
@chef621- Glad to hear that Irma has calmed a bit. She had a good run, now it's time for her to peter out and go away.
One thing about the Rapture- it will definitely get plenty of news coverage because the entire mainstream press will still be here.
@Pete(Detroit)- Oh, the humanity...
@Rod- Houston is already yesterday's news, especially because the MSM can't find a way to use the progress and cooperation to advance their agenda.
Regarding #BlackLootersMatter, I'm too old to pretend I don't notice what's perfectly obvious when it comes to seeing the color of looters, rioters, and flash mobs who rob stores or passengers on subway cars. To hell with being politically correct - these are tribal sub-humans...not because of their DNA, but because of their chosen lifestyles of idiocy and sociopathy.
@John the Econ- I agree about antifa. The Left wants a violent army but doesn't want to be too obvious about endorsing it. But they're clearly happy with the results. And I, too, groaned at the idea of "preemptive self-defense." I think maybe it's time for some "double preemptive self-defense" to be handed out to these basement dwelling fascists.
@Shelly- Yes, that shooting wasn't far from where I live (perhaps a 5 minute drive). Sounds like an estranged husband in the process of getting a divorce (he was living in an apartment) returned to his wife's home during the party and just started killing everyone. Very weird in our usually peaceful bit of suburbia.
@Colby Muenster- Oh, I wish it was only going to be two more weeks! The optimistic guess would be a month - but as you may have noticed, I'm no optimist.
Regarding Irma, I'm sorry you missed out on the looting opportunity, as it seems to be an accepted form of compensating for "income inequality."
Regarding bogus storm reporting, I remember seeing a Youtube video of a reporter (some years ago) doing her report while sitting in a boat in a flooded street...and then a couple of people walk through the background showing that the water is only ankle deep.
@ Colby: Yes and I've also just heard Rush L. reporting that many listeners who know where to find official metrics & data on wind, rain, waves, etc. are reporting that what data they observed were far lower numbers than were being reported at the time by the media. I think the press takes a highest wind velocity (forecasted, projected or actually measured somewhere) at whatever elevation & wherever it was and applies it to everything. I know from experimental data and math that the reporter who claimed to be doing his rain & wind dance in 130 MPH winds in the north eyewall was full of poop (the word of the day). About half that wind velocity is about the highest possible for him to do that. Also think much of this about surge at St. John river and Jacksonville is about the freshwater runoff from that basin which received a lot of hard training rain well before Irma ever got to Florida. Hey field reporters; How about some salt, saline or freshwater reporting?
ReplyDeleteAlso the National Data Buoy network (offshore) used to have smallish but adequate number of data buoys but nearly all of them would report significant wave height. I looked all over the place with this storm approaching the Keys and found a whole lot more buoys have been installed but many of them had been out of service for months; and/or few very report wave data any more at all. Not broken, just don't have that feature OR it's not made public.
TV news is OK for what we can actually see and evaluate; but the narrative is mostly bullshit.
@John the Econ: I knew he was going to hit me so I hit him back first!
ReplyDelete@John the Econ:
ReplyDeletePreemptive self-defense = "Do unto others. First."
I don't know how the local government in Florida's major cities is, but here in Houston, our mayor just announced that he plans on relieving the suffering of our citizens (many of whom lost their houses and didn't have flood insurance), by "temporarily" increasing property taxes by 9%.
ReplyDeleteWe shouldn't worry. It'll be one of those temporary taxes that go away when it's not needed anymore.
Good luck, Miami.
Harry Hamid
ReplyDeleteHave you thought about leaving Houston and moving to Texas?
And they did repeal the temporary Spanish -American war phone tax on telephones... after only 108 years.... so it has happened .......once at least
Never let a good crisis go to waste. Opportunities to hike taxes by 9% don't come along very often.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention that Busty is looking extremely fine and I miss her very much. Hi! Busty.
ReplyDeleteHere's the "revealed word" on Antifa's Pre-Emptive Self-Defense.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ximhKBINBc
This guy is a college professor and SHOULD know better. Pre-emptive Self Defense was the justification for Dubya's invasion of Iraq, too. That sure turned out well,
Yrs,
Jack Colby
Well, it appears that someone actually read Hilarity's new book, and it is as we expected - she blames everyone on the planet except herself for losing the election. It was the Russians, James Comey, voter ID laws, non-voting feminists, and probably those damn White Walkers from Game of Thrones:
