To Rush With Love

stilton’s place, stilton, political, humor, conservative, cartoons, jokes, hope n’ change, rush limbaugh, 30 years, anniversary
"No matter how much you might want to."
We're not about to let the 30th anniversary of the Rush Limbaugh Show go by without a proper show of respect, admiration, and affection for the greatest radio personality, and one of the most vital political minds, of our times.

There is quite simply no one else like Rush. His insights, analysis, humor and optimism are completely off the charts - and the fact that the Left is utterly baffled by him only adds to our delight. Remember when Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo launched "Air America Radio" hoping to create a liberal version of the Limbaugh magic? Their efforts were nightmarishly uninformative and unfunny, and they stunk up the airwaves so badly that the entire network collapsed.

But Rush goes on and on, coming into our homes and workplaces with an intimacy that makes him into much more than a celebrity entertainer. He's become a friend, a mentor, and a calming voice in decidedly non-calming times. Much like the late Paul Harvey, Rush Limbaugh is an American institution in the very best sense of the term.

Not that we always held him in such high regard. When Limbaugh's show first came to WBAP in Dallas, we tuned in only because he was said to be an absolute wild man, saying crazy things for sane people to laugh at. His was a freak show, like the old Joe Pyne broadcasts.

And so we tuned in to laugh...and laugh we did. But to our surprise, not at Rush but rather with him. Rather than wacky rants and diatribes, El Rushbo was speaking common sense at a time when sense wasn't common in the least. He made sense of the world and the news in a way we hadn't experienced before...and soon we were hooked.

Without exception, the people who say they hate Rush are people who have never seriously listened to his show objectively for a few days. They're afraid to, for the best of all possible reasons: he'll change their minds. And the average Leftist would rather go on being wrong forever rather than admit they've been duped.

It's no exaggeration to say that without Rush Limbaugh, neither "Hope n' Change" nor "Stilton's Place" would ever have happened.

So thank you, Mr. Limbaugh, and here's hoping that the next 30 years will be as much fun as the first 30 have been!

BONUS: BARACK TO THE FUTILE

stilton’s place, stilton, political, humor, conservative, cartoons, jokes, hope n’ change, obama, stumping, democrats, midterms, asshole, SCOAMF

The most hilarious news story of the day relates to the fact that Barack Hussein Obama, allegedly a past president, is taking to the campaign trail once again to stump for Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections.

Barry is quick to insult President Trump, but we've noticed that he pretty much has nothing to say regarding how things were better in any conceivable way during his nightmarish two term reign. Quite the contrary; the things which Donald Trump has accomplished with relative ease were declared absolutely impossible by the Obama administration. And in fairness, those accomplishments were impossible for an anti-capitalist anti-American.

Almost undeniably, the secret to Donald Trump's spectacular success has simply been not being Barack Obama. The economy booms, jobs take off, and other nations - friends and foes - no longer have the mindset that America can be pushed around and taken advantage of.

As far as we're concerned, getting Barry back out in public is the best thing that could happen for the mid-term elections. Because to really appreciate the Trump revolution, we need constant reminders of how bad everything was under the annoying, insufferably vain poseur we were stuck with for eight wretched years.

  1. Rush Limbaugh -- Good Day!! (H/T to Paul Harvey)

  2. Stilt: Not a correction but Rush was on the Mighty 1190 for two hours on Saturday morning, then they worked him in a delayed broadcast then he moved to the blowtorch 50,000 watts station in real time. At the time, I had a yob that I could listen to talk radio 8 hours a day and I did. That was August or Sept of '88.
    Page 2.
President has hit 50% yob approval and I am surprised it is that low. Oschitz is great on the campaign trail and believe me, some of those running for their lives will not have him within the same state. They also can read the tea leaves.

  3. Before the EIB, before Rush had a local show in Sacramento, there was Morton Downey, Jr. Mort had the 9-12 slot at KFBK until political correctness got him. He used the word "Chinaman" on the air and a local Asian politician was offended. Mort refused to apologize and he was fired. KFBK brought in Rush as his replacement.

So, you could say that it was political correctness that gave us Rush Limbaugh. I look back fondly on Rush's early days. I do miss the gerbil update, though

  4. Rush's program this morning was right on the mark when he was discussing the moronic stupidity of most of the left side. These droolers try to pass themselves off as patriots all the while quoting from Marx and Lenin to justify their actions. Mr. Limbaugh does not suffer fools gladly. As they march lockstep into RL's gun sights, he pulls the trigger without remorse. His convictions and clarity of purpose remain his strongpoints that no mouth-breather cannot comprehend or rationalize. He was the first person to opine that liberalism is an uncurable, self-inflicted mental illness. The leftists have nothing or no one that compares to him or his acuity. They keep doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results, which we know where that leads to....
Barry, about that incessant head scratching, a bar of coal tar soap will chase those little critters right down the drain Lather, rinse, repeat......

  5. WBAP I got it during daylight hours all the way into Montana !!!

Rush has to tell both sides of the story during his show to get the info out ...first what our media said .....and then the truth and has been doing it for decades !!!
It does get much more fair than that !!!
The other half of the story ..........

  6. The only thing I have against Rush is he killed AM -stereo .......In an attempt to save the dying AM band they brought out AM stereo for music .........then Rush and talk radio saved the AM band in such a big way AM stereo and music were left in the dust ......
I guess Mariachi bands sounds the same in mono or stereo ......

  7. Although Rush's live show is not available for free via the internet, I do catch past broadcasts on YouTube - including the one from a couple days ago when President Trump himself called in to congratulate Rush on 30 years.
As far as Presidental Popularity Polls go, they vary so widely as to be irrelevant. Here is an interesting poll of those polls:

  8. Mike aka Proof bringing up the name of Morton Downey Jr. was a flashback to great radio and later TV. Today he would be considered mild with the liberal garbage filling the airways. The vulgarity and slime talk of the liberals today on all media outlets are used whenever no positive position on a subject is given with facts. This will always draw in the young people as they like to giggle as if they were listening to an old Rusty Warren album "Knockers Up" in the early 1960s. Same with Jarlsberg name from the past, Joe Pyne. Wow, old-time 1960s and 70s radio. Thanks and keep up the great work. If you get a website let us know so we can contribute tidbits. Never give up this blog.

  9. The first time I heard Rush, I stumbled across his show on WBAP and heard el Rushbo dissect the Rev-rund Jack-sun. I've been a fan ever since.

  10. Congratulations to Rush. I listened to him for years, at work, and found he always said exactly what I was thinking. Thank you for acknowleging him.
As for odumbo, is he really relevant? I have to mute my TV and close my eyes every time someone shows a clip of him.

  12. @GeoffKing: Simply go to a web site- I listen to WMAL - that streams the show and listen online. Chris Plant does the show before Rush on that station and makes Rush seem rather docile. Not taking anything away from Rush, it's just that Plant is more blatant in his denunciations and insults.
RL has been causing liberals heads to explode for a glorious 30 years. If only more of them would listen to him....

  16. Your story about Rush reminds me of mine. I started listening to him around the time of Clinton's impeachment. I was young and stupid, so obviously I was a Democrat.

I tuned in to develop arguments against Rush. I was working service on phone systems and spent time in my truck driving from call to call so I would listen for Rush to say "Outrageous" things I could pick apart.

    I couldn't.

What's ironic is his arguments made sense and he converted me from a sheep following Liberal to a Conservative. I owe him a thank you if I ever get to meet him.

  17. I got a call from my best friend in Colorado Springs (while on the night shift) at about 10PM during the "Gulf Wah". He said "Bruce, turn on KVOR and listen to this guy. He sounds JUST LIKE YOU!" Talk about "resume enhancement"... so I tuned Rush in, and never stopped loving him and his acrimonious evisceration of the morons on the left. The poignant exposure of characters that would have JFK spinning in his grave, the hilarious "updates" and their themes... the respect he has for his listeners and derision he shows for the haters of our Constitution... BRAVO, Rush H. Limbaugh, and congrats for your well earned respect and success. Like a "Flying Fickle Finger of Fate Award", (which also happens to be a movie directed by Richard Rush), Limbaugh distinguishes himself as being MISquoted by liberals as often as the truth.
Regarding lamont insane obama, maybe a movie based on his "presiduncy" could be called "Les Miserables Accomplishments", SANS the concept of redemption in the original. My left butt-cheek has more potential at leadership than bathhouse barry, the first "oreo-in-chief" to live in MY White House. That bastard qualifies for BOTH entendres of the word! FHATCHRIO!

  18. Rush has put into words the thinking of so many. He speaks the truth. I started with Rush about 2 years into his national syndication. I have listened pretty much all the time since; life's entanglements not withstanding.

Rush made patriotism popular when the media was trying to kill it.

Rush made conservatism cool when the media tried to kill it.

Rush made getting into the faces of left wing dingbats a policy of his life and for many others when the media was trying to kill the voices of opposition.

Rush saved America in my opinion.

Had we let the political correct movement of the Clinton era take over, there would be no dissent allowed. Rush took that idea and tossed it on its ear. Had the Klinton's had their way, we would all be marching in lock step liberal today, or face re-education in one of Hillary's camps (public schools in her 'village').

All kidding aside, Rush was, is, and will continue to be the savior of the republic and the United States as founded. He ignited an industry of talk radio that was not ashamed to promote conservative values and beliefs.

God Bless Rush and I hope he carries on far into the future.

  19. Incredible that Rush was a DJ prior to his gig as a talk show host. From Wikipedia:

"Since he was 16, Limbaugh has worked a series of disc jockey jobs. His talk show began in 1984 at Sacramento, California radio station KFBK, featuring his ongoing format of political commentary and listener calls. In 1988, Limbaugh began broadcasting his show nationally from radio station WABC in New York City, and the show's flagship station became WOR in 2014."

Even more incredible that liberals continue to "hate" Rush's comments, even though---when asked how often they listen to his commentaries---the answer is an always-muffled hand-over-mouth, "Well...whenever I can." Simple lib BS, but no surprise.

  21. I'm often amused at folks who rant about how -ist Rush is. Then I ask if they've ever listened to him and (of course) they say no. I'm a newcomer, started listening to Rush when they had one-hour versions of his show on the radio in hawaii when I was stationed there in '91.

All I can say is if they don't listen to Rush Limbaugh, they're missing out on one of the most entertaining, enjoyable three hours of radio a day. His oftentimes undocumented guest host, Mark Steyn, is a joy to listen to as well.

Chris Plante on WMAL is a treasure. I think Chris drinks a lot more coffee than Rush, if ya know what I mean.

  22. @ Geoff King: "Rush's live show is not available for free via the internet"
You can hear Rush's live show on the Internet through iHeart Radio. Search or go to a station that broadcasts Rush (I use KFBK 1530) and listen to the whole thing for free, complete with commercials!

  23. '92/3, I was driving for Ford, often midnights. Gto tired of same old radio, tapes. Turned on talk radio... The best 'interview show' host it has ever been my pleasure to listen to, Gill Gross, set up the re-cast of Rush 3-6am
At first, I would get all wound up at the stuff he was saying.
Then I got annoyed at how much I agreed w/ him.
Then I just got the heck over it. Having ALWAYS been a "Conservative" (other than when I was living in TX, where I was a Damned Yankee, mostly) it was not a great reach...
Agreed, he arguably drove the point of talk radio, breaking ground for so many following in his footsteps.
Yes, arguably he saved conservatism, as a movement.
I, for one, do NOT miss the stupid update themes - signal to noise ratio is low enough, b/n news and commercials, w/o wasting busy broadcast minutes on goofy sound effects. Just my opinion, to each their own, but I always thought they went on WAYYY to long, and were dumb.

As for Oh, Bummer! - That clueless dill hole wouldn't recognize winning if you shoved it in his face.
Like Trump has been doing nearly daily for a year and a half.
I hear he's been spotted at a Subaru dealership, looking for a Legacy he can actually keep...

  24. I remember the first time I heard Rush in the late '80s, an age when outside of certain print publications, the left had a largely unchallenged monopoly in mass media. My first thought was "My God! How did this kind of honestly conservative content ever make it on the air?"

Actually, there's probably only one reason he did: AM radio at the time was somewhere between dying and dead. By the late '80s, almost all music programming had migrated to the FM band, largely stimulated by better quality audio becoming standard in cars and the introduction of the Sony Walkman and other high-fidelity portable devices. This left AM with little more than news, sports, and highly dull and conformist local political talk. Had the AM band been thriving and profitable, it's highly unlikely that Rush would have had a chance. But the owners and program managers of dying stations were ready and willing to try anything, even if he did offend their political sensibilities.

The easy money they subsequently made changed their minds quickly.

I had almost forgotten about Airhead America, that embarrassing attempt to out-Rush Rush. The basis of their formula was simple enough; How hard can this be? We're clearly smarter than everyone else. We'll just go on the radio and insult conservatives and demonstrate our moral and intellectual superiority and Rush will be destroyed. All they achieved was proving the exact opposite.

I think I tuned in exactly once for maybe 15 minutes or so. What I heard between the annoying spans of dead air (where Al and whoever was on with him had to stop talking in order to think of what their next smug insult on someone might be) was at best insipid. When they weren't dispensing cheap insults, they were literally congratulating each other in their moral and intellectual superiority. There was nothing else. I'm no fan of laugh tracks, but Air America definitely would have benefited from one. There was very little to laugh at unprompted.

Oh, and then there was the Air America loan "controversy" (scam): Exactly what argument could be made to justify why a charity such as the Boys and Girls Club (that was itself largely funded by taxpayer dollars) should be loaning the better part of a million dollars to a far-left Progressive radio show?

Al Franken commented "I don't know why they did it, and I don't know where the money went. I don't know if it was used for operations, which I imagine it was. I think he was robbing Peter to pay Paul."

Yeah, you do. Your program was dead. It was paying your salary, loser.

I'm afraid that so much of Progressivism is funded this way; via money laundering from legitimate sources ostensibly for legitimate reasons.

Which is the biggest difference between Rush and Air America. Rush doesn't need to be subsidized because people want to listen. Progressivism needs to be subsidized because people don't actually buy it; it has to be forced upon them. 30 years later, Rush perseveres.

Stumped: That's what the Democrats are. It's bad enough that they can't get rid of the Clintons, but what help could the "You didn't build that" omni-millionaire who's legacy almost totally disappeared within 18 months possibly be? Making people reminisce about the glory days of "Recovery Summer 2010"?

  25. Stilton, every true conservative owes gerat thanks to Rush Limbaugh. With no respect intended to you, because you are certainly one of his most insightful (and downright entertaining disciples), I think his instincts and insights are brilliant. Together, you're a wonderful Team for Truth. Wit and positive leadership. Thanks for the glowing tribute on Rush's 30th! I also hope you're making forward progress on your health issues.

  27. Yup, I have been listening to Rush for 30 years now.

And, you mention presidential accomplishments; just watched the 65 bodies being offloaded at Hickam in Hawaii. No president has been able to get the bodies returned until President Trump. Well, most didn't try, some, like obozo didn't give a shit, and some had more important things to do. Like the Bushes and their Patriot Act and 'kneepads' Bill getting his knob polished in the oral - oops, I mean - Oval Office. So, hooray for President Donald J. Trump!

  28. @sergio- I totally read that in Paul Harvey's voice.

@James Daily- I didn't know Rush was on the Mighty 1190 back then! Of course, I had a 1-year old daughter at the time so wasn't doing a lot of radio listening.

@Mike aka Proof- Ah yes, Morton Downey, Jr! I was trying to think of him when coming up with Joe Pyne's name, but had a brain freeze. And you make a very amusing point that it may have been political correctness which gave us Rush!

@Regnad Kcin- Rush's show would never have lasted if he weren't whip smart and always, always coming at things from a unique perspective. How the man keeps his content fresh for 3 hours a day, 5 days a week is a marvel. And I think he's defined the perils of liberalism more accurately (and humorously) than anyone else.

@REM1875- Oh yeah, WBAP had/has a strong signal. And you're right that Rush tends to at least air the opposition's points, if only to more effectively ridicule them.

And I have to laugh about your comment regarding Mariachi bands. When I spin through the radio dial here in the Dallas metroplex, it sounds like I'm pulling in shortwave radio.

@Geoff King- You say that Rush's show isn't free via the Internet, but have you tried services like "I Heart Radio?" I've got several Amazon Echo devices (I'm actually too boring to worry about being spied on) and they happily play Rush's show. If you have such a device, just enable the "WBAP skill" and say "Alexa, play WBAP" whenever Rush is on.

@D.A. Davis- Ah, the forbidden fruit of Rusty Warren's "Knockers Up!" I miss the days when "dirty stuff" was still just that, instead of the default setting for most people's conversations (and behaviors).

@L.C.Clower- I read your comment in Rush's voice. And yes, Rush pulls people in quickly and then hangs on to them. Like coffee, he's an addiction I don't mind having.

@Judi King- Barry is still relevant to the extent that a lot of lamebrains still worship him, despite growing empirical evidence that his time in office was a wall to wall disaster.

@Ad Validator- Rush is best on radio, but I loved seeing that video clip of "Crying Clinton" again! Thanks for sharing!

@Snark- I find that I have only limited tolerance for voices more strident than Rush's, even if they're making perfectly legitimate points. I think that's one of his great strengths.

@Casey Carney- Even though Rush has discontinue some classic bits, it seems like he always have plenty of new stuff on tap.

@Tots- You're right, our stories are very similar. I didn't expect Rush to change my mind and perspective on all things political, but he certainly did. I would be honored to shake that man's formerly nicotine-stained hand.

  29. The move was a big deal then because of the audience attracted. KLIF was singing the blues asking everyone to call, write, holler to keep Rush there. We didn't care Who carried him, we just wanted him - and got him in Real Time. Big deal. Now, as an aside, I remember the very first Rush show I listened to, 2 hours, on a Saturday when he came onto 1190. I was doing my job and he started talking about everything I believed and it wasn't PC. I said to myself, "OMG, they are going to kill this guy!" We conservatives kept a very low profile and where I worked was I was surrounded by militant liberals. Back then, he had a "driver" in NYC named, I believe, Rusty but you just knew he was more than a driver.

  30. I can't imagine how I could have survived liberalism without Rush. He keeps me grounded when I begin to despair. I think it was getting rid of the so-called Fairness Doctrine that opened the door for Rush who led the charge of conservative talk radio. He is the maestro and I dearly love him. There is a reason Air America and other liberal talk radio fail. They cannot discuss anything because they have no argument and just resort to ad hominems. Not a way to entertain for sure. I love the way Rush talks to liberal callers. He calmly sets them straight but is respectful in doing so. That totally disarms them.

As far as Barky is concerned, I'm thrilled he is back on the campaign trail. He has a dismal track record with respect to that. Most of those he stumps for lose, so, yay, keep it up, Barky.

  31. K. I stand corrected (actually, I sit corrected). Evidently the Rush show is available for free from various sources on the internet. All I knew was the local radio stations stopped carrying his show and when I went to Rush Limbaugh .com, or whatever, it asked me to buy a subscription. Also, my podcast player refused to give me Rush for free.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Bruce Bleu- I was going to say that Rush has done immeasurably more for our country than Barry, but that would be damning with very faint praise indeed.

@Glenda T Goode- Beautifully expressed and I agree with every word!

@Alfonso Bedoya- I'm an old radio man myself, though I wasn't technically an on-air guy. I wrote and recorded commercials, many of which were pretty darn wacky. So I love radio and very, very few have used the medium as expertly as Rush. And you're right that Rush's loudest critics are all people who never actually listen to him. I think they'd shrivel up like salted slugs.

@TrickyRicky- I think a yuge part of Trump's success comes down to the fact that he isn't Obama. Trump could almost (but not quite) be a cipher and we'd still see much of the magic happening. That being said, it is always refreshing to feel like we've got a President who actually loves America and Americans for a change.

@Dan- Mark Steyn is far and away my favorite fill-in host for the show. A great mind and a great wit.

    @Mike aka Proof- Yep.

@Pete (Detroit)- I agree that some of those update themes ran way too long and could get too repetitive. But it was an allowable sin.

@John the Econ- As usual, your points are spot on.

@Dick Paetzke- I very much believe in the "team" concept when it comes to advancing conservatism with humor. And in Rush's world, I'm happy just to be a waterboy.

Thanks for the good wishes on my health. I'm still having weird twitches and tics, albeit significantly reduced at night and now, sporadically, during the day. After $9k of tests, the consensus seems to be "we don't know what it is, but it doesn't seem likely to kill you. Let's wait and see." But all in all, I'm doing fine.

@Sortahwitte- I heartily agree that the Dems should keep parading their dimmest, dumbest, and most strident in public. As John the Econ is wont to say, "Do you want more Trump? Because this is how you get more Trump."

@Fred Ciampi- It's humbling and inspiring to see the remains of our service people coming back to American soil, and Trump deserves a world of credit. I compare that to Obama and Hillary standing with the flag-draped coffins of those who died in Benghazi, and lying their asses off to the American people and the families of the fallen. The rat bastards.

@James Daily- Thanks for the additional history!

@Shelly- I can't even imagine what today's America would be like without Rush. Actually, the thought is scary enough that I don't want to dwell on it. But I completely agree that one of the great things about Rush is that he entertains and educates, but he doesn't try to make people angry. Who could listen to that every day? Rather, he shares his positive attitude and gives ALL of us strength by showing the opposition to be laughable (albeit dangerous).

@Geoff King- Great! I hope this makes it easier for you to listen!

  33. I enjoyed a few years ago when Rush was tossing out more bait for Libtards and he took a little clip about when they all live together full-time long enough, Women's monthly cycles synchronize. He quickly turned this into a new weaponized military force which could never be defeated. I figured Wow! This one going to get some reactions. But actually there seemed to be very little. I don't know if everyone thought it was over the top... or maybe everyone agreed.

Rush is a unique combination of hilarious entertainer and excellent news analyst.
