Poll Cat

stilton’s place, stilton, political, humor, conservative, cartoons, jokes, hope n’ change, mid term elections, schrodinger's cat, 2018, trump, amy schumer

Yes, nothing says topical, post-election humor quite like a quantum theory joke! But considering the fact that we're writing this on Tuesday afternoon and don't know which way the elections are going to break, we couldn't help but think of Schrodinger's cat in a sealed box and its unresolved state of possibilities.

In much the same way, our immediate political future is in an unresolved state as these words are written...but by the time you read them, you'll know whehter Schrodinger's ballot box opened to reveal the electoral equivalent of a happy, purring, pampered kitty...or an appalling fly-infested mix of whiskers and rotting guts infested with feasting News maggots.

(Note: our sincere editorial apologies to any readers who read that last bit while still working on breakfast.)

Lacking the ability to expound further (we actually have a lot more to say about quantum theory, but have yet to meet anyone who was glad when we did), we're looking to you readers to help carry the conversational ball in the comments section today. Are we celebrating today or mourning? High-fiving or standing on ledges? Beats us...but in either case, it's not unlikely that we'll have a hangover today.

And speaking of confusing realities, we'll end this by noting our baffled reaction to alleged comedienne Amy Schumer's "get out the vote" tweet in which she showed an ultrasound of the child she's carrying in order to express the vital importance of people getting out and voting in order to keep unfettered abortion as available as drive-thru hamburgers.

Put another way, even Schrodinger's box isn't as confusing as Schumer's.

LATE NIGHT UPDATE

It would appear that the Dems have retaken the House, and will be even more annoying now. Idiots, socialists, and radicals will be committee heads, and specious congressional investigations into Trump, Kavanaugh, and probably everyone reading this blog will become a significant monkey wrench jammed into the machinery of America's recent successes.

Damn.

  1. So the House will be as cooperative as it was under Ryan?

  2. I'm so sorry. Oklahoma lost a US Rep seat to a dim. That's all I know now.
To bed before I find out some other catastrophic news.

  3. How could you tell? Rs wasted Two F'ing Years!! Only difference now is just "investigations and subpoenas", so nothing has changed. What I want is today as AG Sessions last day so we can get stuff done in the last two months. I was sick of some of the results so salved my misery with a pint - of Rocky Road. Thursday will be better.

  4. Aside from the sideshow "investigations", the most they can probably do is create gridlock. Not the worst byproduct out of DC.
An increased majority in the Senate makes Trump's judicial nominees nearly bulletproof.
Two years of legislative incompetence, followed by Trump at the top of the ticket, and Republicans retake the House in 2020.

  5. Cheer up. If they're busy investigating us and doing useless impeachment votes, then they don't have time to cause real problems! :)

  6. So will the "right" be protesting, whining, accosting dems in public places, burning, looting, calling for violence against the left, or will we be too damned busy working and actually being productive members of society too engage in the actions that have come to typify the left?

  7. Seriously thinking of abandoning all news outlets, at least for the next two years. But not Stilton's Place . . . because Busty!

  8. A few things could happen, with a Neanderthal effort to prosecute criminals in government. That would be a good thing. I'd buy popcorn and go to see the first public tar and feathering, with the customary drawing and quartering.

  9. Here in Az. the senate race is still to close to tell at this hour, with 99% of the vote counted Martha McSally is only leading by .8%. Either way I am celebrating the loss of the two previous RINOs, Flake and McCain.

  10. @Dan- Oh, I'll bet the Dems can find some way to be less cooperative.

@Sortahwitte- That one was a shocker. Maybe too many Republicans in Oklahoma believed their votes weren't needed and stayed home.

@James Daily- I think the dynamic of the investigations and subpoenas will be significantly changed for the worse. Do we really want a Supreme Court with one member, Kavanaugh, recused for the next 2 years during his impeachment investigation? On the other hand, your suggestion of making this Ice Cream time is pretty good...

@Mike aka Proof- Trump's ability to pick and confirm judges is the big silver lining to this particular dark cloud. And as you say, if the Dems are complete a**holes for two years, it will likely guarantee a second term for Trump.

    @M. Mitchell Marmel- I hope you're right!

@rickn8or- Is that a "Seven" reference? Because I sure had that in mind.

@Sylvia Zbornak- And that's an order.

@American Cowboy- I think we'll continue to see all of those bad behaviors, but they'll still be coming from the Left.

@Jim Irre- I'm not looking forward to following the news for the next two years, either. Maybe this blog should be rededicated to Busty Ross sharing recipes and skincare tips. (grin)

@Jess- Kavanaugh came about as close to being tarred and feathered as we're likely to see these days.

@Geoff King- Looks like the McSally race is still too close to call. Messy.

  11. Here in Missouri, we will now have medicinal marijuana AND a minimum wage increase to $12/hr over the next 4-5 years. The latter will destroy our economy. I guess all the unemployed folks will have to make a living growing pot. :S

  12. Here at the bottom of the world, Australia, I was hoping in vain that the landslide for the Republicans would wipe the Dem/Libs out. Bicameral still exists. Ok, so it sucks when you lose, but it's still better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. It's gonna get real crazy but hey, we can deal with it.

  13. Braun stomped Donnelly, yay!
Visclosky got his 18th term (36 years!). He will have to retire (unlikely) or die in office before we have a chance of getting anyone else. Ugh.

But, every time I work an election, I realize why dems cannot be in power. They muck up everything. Each precinct has 1 Inspector (dem), 2 Judges (1 Rep, 1 dem) and 2 Clerks (1 Rep, 1 dem). If its a Rep Gov we get a dem Inspector; if dem Gov, Rep Inspector. Where I was (always am), all 3 Inspectors were confused. Each one kept going to each other asking if they were doing something correctly. 1 thought she was the head of the whole show and confusing voters on where they need to be. Though, a lot of them were confused because this is the first time they were voting in 10+ years. "My" Inspector is only 22 (?) and did not get the other Judge's or Clerk's signatures on 2-3 envelopes. Spent more time with her earbuds in and or reading a book or checking her phone instead of going over everything and making sure signatures were secured or understanding what was needed. 10 years ago we had a fantastic Inspector. Knew exactly what needed to be done and we were closed out, broken down and headed to the results dropoff by 6:20 the latest. We didnt leave until almost 6:45 last night. Dropoff place is no better. In line for 40 min. Other lines? 10-15 minutes tops. All these "important" people standing around, but none of them see the issue of putting 2 towns in the same line. Stupid.

  14. @Laura D: Since it passed, we may as well try seeing a potential bright side: The minimum wage increase in Missouri will help a lot of hard working people; and it may even serve as an incentive to actually do a better job as an employee; when the alternative is to do without a job. I think it's up to employers to raise the standard for employment as part of the deal.

As for medical weed: I've heard one of the uses is for Altzheimers disease. I don't know if that's really a valid treatment but I sure know some older folks who might need to try it. Serious Dementia and Altzheimers is Hell on Earth for them and for caring people around them. IF they don't burn down the house while they're at it.

I'm very happy with another Missouri election result: Claire McCaskill is out. She won't stop being a two-faced deceitful crook since that's in her DNA; but she won't be doing it with our money. Back to private thievery, Claire. And a Republican got your seat in the Senate. Goexplain that to your buddy Barry.

Yes the U.S. House of Reps will be a mess & a clown act but that will further "edumacate" us for 2012. Markets like deadlocked government and the House is pretty weak, (LBJ had a clear but vulgar comparison of being a Senator vs a Representive... especially with Senate & Executive office in control and a better SCOTUS. What we need to fix now are the RINO's; Leftist, activist judiciary in the deeper state; and broadcast licensing. And enforce laws.

WE also learned at the polls that the voter-mandated Photo ID for voting which was enacted by Missouri some time back and was still in effect during the primaries HAD BEEN SET_ASIDE before the general mid-term election... by a Democrat judge. I'm still researching who brought the matter to the court.

  16. McSally has surged into the lead with .9% above Sinema. Still too close to tell.
In any event, Arizona will get it's first female senator, and even Sinema is more conservative than Flake or McCain ever were.

  17. It could have been much worse in WDC. I'm just hoping the morons in the majority in the house find someone other than that bitch pelousy to take the gavel. Give it to Maximum Vitriol Waters, for all I care. Just don't give it back to pelosi... I don't think I could take another 2 years of her pinched, preachy, wizened old face in front of the cameras.

It couldn't have been any worse in Michigan, though. Not only do we get to watch a moron destroy all the gains of the last governor, they also get to register anybody and everybody immediately to vote, AND they get to create a commission through which they will readily tamper with the district-drawing perpetuating their reign of misery over us.

Oh, and let the stories of ballot-tampering start rolling in - I'm sure there was an historic level of that going on as well...

  18. I live in Michigan also and couldn't be more depressed. Demonrat for Governor, kept that useless stab(m)enow as senator, etc. I thought maybe John James had a chance but NO. We're screwed. Definitely in mourning. I still find it hard to believe there are so many idiots living in this country. I'd wish that they get what they voted for but then so would the rest of us.

  19. As an earthy late relative would say, 'The sun doesn't shine on the same dog's ass forever.
The electorate can be “funny”. Just as the electorate in its greater mass/herd ‘wisdom’ decided to punish Gerald Ford for the wise and far-sighted decision to pardon Nixon, so has the electorate decided to punish Prescient Trump for the temerity of being elected. And for this, the ‘resistance’ aided and abetted by the enemedia has played its hand well.

There’s blame for the GOP too. Throughout this election, I wondered and wondered why, why the RNC did not create and air nationally ads showcasing the accomplishments under President Trump, to ‘stay the course’ and conversely showing the democrats as a party so deficient in ideas that all it can do is muster a group of semi naked women to make their case.
As for having the democrats in control of the House and the threat of their hearings on Russia, impeachment, the world is truly flat… bring it on. Making this their agenda will eventually create fatigue in all but the most rabid and play nicely into the hands of the GOP in 2020.
Last and ominously there are some flipped seats, like Virginia’s 11th district that were flipped democratic and are going to stay that way. A frightening thought as we continue onwards

  25. Not that lack of validity and truth ever mattered to Dems, but since all the accusations regarding Kavanaugh have pretty much been shown to be invalid, on what basis would they be trying to impeach him?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm really not losing any sleep over last night's results for several reasons. In fact, considering historical tendencies of the establishment GOP to go squishy once they feel secure, it's likely a good thing, especially for Trump going into 2020. So for the next two years, Americans will get Nutty Nancy, Mad Maxine, and newcomer "democratic socialist" Occasional-Cortex front-and-center. If governing comes down to a battle of wits between the Congressional House and the White House, I think we all know who's going to win that war.

In the meantime, the new lefter-than-left House leadership will try to sell their soft-communism and open borders to an American people just rediscovering the joys of capitalism. They'll continue to try to sell a $15 minimum wage and Medicaid for all. And we'll continue to educate them that in supposed socialist paradise Sweden, $15 an hour means $5.25 after taxes to pay for it all, and doctors willing to see you before you die will be few and far between, especially now that they'll have all these new "caravan customers" to serve. If you want to see a doctor before you die, it will have to come out of your $5.25 that was left after your taxes to pay for the "free" that everyone else thinks they're getting.

I'd also like to remind everyone that historically, the economy has always done better under a divided government. A divided government means less interference in the economy, (by either party) which means that businesspeople feel free to invest and expand as compared to when, for example, after 2008 when everyone felt compelled to run and hide for a decade under Obama & the Democrats.

    Not a bad day, folks.

On a lighter side, Dennis Hof, who hasn't made a campaign appearance in a month, won. A lot of the dead vote but this time, the dead won the election. Warm up those Grand Juries, they are going to be needed. Next, the Dir of the FBI Wray. Then clean up that mess. Happy days are here again.

  33. Second that motion on Little Jeffey. Had such high expectations for him as AG but come to find out he was a hollow man. Was he a closet never-Trumper or just a major wimp ? What DJT needs now is a pitbull on crack like Gowdy or maybe Lindsey Graham (now that he's finally grown a pair). Paul Ryan should be the next one to walk the plank. At least now that 40 or so of anti-Trumpers have resigned maybe the Big Guy can get some work done, like indicting the Cluntons on RICOs. I'm cracking open a fresh 1.75 of Canadian Windsor and celebrating the silver lining inside a dark cloud. Can't wait to see what happens next......

  34. Sessions was an unapologetic and enthusiastic fan of Asset Forfeiture, where government agencies are free to seize anything you might own without due process, and then it's up to you to fight to get your own property back if or when no criminal case is ever made. Many people never get their money or property back, because it has to happen on their dime. It was an evil artifact of the war on drugs that like all theoretically good intentioned policy got out of control and become self-serving. It's the very sort of thing this country was founded in protest of and to prevent, and it outraged me that we had the highest law enforcement officer in the nation in favor of it.

    Good riddance.

Any Republican conservative law-enforcing Acting AG has to be better. There was no question of Trump's move; he's just the master of timing. All nice-nice at the press conference today, then the news: Y'all keep investing me and not acting in best interest of the nation... WE start investigating you. And a couple of hours later Sessions is gone. Masterful.

  39. Schroedinger, Erwin! Professor of physics!
Wrote daring equations! Confounded his critics!
(Not bad, eh? Don’t worry. This part of the verse
Starts off pretty good, but it gets a lot worse.)
Win saw that the theory that Newton’d invented
By Einstein’s discov’ries had been badly dented.
What now? wailed his colleagues. Said Erwin, “Don’t panic,
No grease monkey I, but a quantum mechanic.
Consider electrons. Now, these teeny articles
Are sometimes like waves, and then sometimes like particles.
If that’s not confusing, the nuclear dance
Of electrons and suchlike is governed by chance!
No sweat, though — my theory permits us to judge
Where some of ’em is and the rest of ’em was.”
Not everyone bought this. It threatened to wreck
The comforting linkage of cause and effect.
E’en Einstein had doubts, and so Schroedinger tried
To tell him what quantum mechanics implied.
Said Win to Al, “Brother, suppose we’ve a cat,
And inside a tube we have put that cat at —
Along with a solitaire deck and some Fritos,
A bottle of Night Train, a couple mosquitoes
(Or something else rhyming) and, oh, if you got ’em,
One vial prussic acid, one decaying ottom
Or atom — whatever — but when it emits,
A trigger device blasts the vial into bits
Which snuffs our poor kitty. The odds of this crime
Are 50 to 50 per hour each time.
The cylinder’s sealed. The hour’s passed away. Is
Our pussy still purring — or pushing up daisies?
Now, you’d say the cat either lives or it don’t
But quantum mechanics is stubborn and won’t.
Statistically speaking, the cat (goes the joke),
Is half a cat breathing and half a cat croaked.
To some this may seem a ridiculous split,
But quantum mechanics must answer, ‘Tough shit.
We may not know much, but one thing’s fo’ sho’:
There’s things in the cosmos that we cannot know.
Shine light on electrons — you’ll cause them to swerve.
The act of observing disturbs the observed —
Which ruins your test. But then if there’s no testing
To see if a particle’s moving or resting
Why try to conjecture? Pure useless endeavor!
We know probability — certainty, never.’
The effect of this notion? I very much fear
‘Twill make doubtful all things that were formerly clear.
Till soon the cat doctors will say in reports,
    “We’ve just flipped a coin and we’ve learned he’s a corpse.”‘
So saith Herr Erwin. Quoth Albert, “You’re nuts.
God doesn’t play dice with the universe, putz.
I’ll prove it!” he said, and the Lord knows he tried —
In vain — until fin’ly he more or less died.
Win spoke at the funeral: “Listen, dear friends,
Sweet Al was my buddy. I must make amends.
Though he doubted my theory, I’ll say of this saint:
Ten-to-one he’s in heaven — but five bucks says he ain’t.”

  43. Old Cannonballs - that's that 'new civility' you've been hearing about ...
    Cecil Adams - HEH! NOICE!
For ages, I've used S-dinger's "cat" (or 'box' or pussy, or twat) to talk about abortion... No 'reasonable' (by definition of 'reason' I suspect) person would argue that 2 unmated zygotes are a 'person'. Similarly, no 'reason able' person would deny that a delivered baby *is*... the question is, when did the transition occur? Some feel at the joining, the fertilization of the ovum, THAT is the human life. Never mind that 30+% never 'take'... it at least has the convenience of being scientifically definable. Others say the fetus must be a fully delivered 'baby' - a position I find pretty mush as silly as the former, though again, scientifically defined. Thomas Aquinas, I'm informed (possibly incorrectly) defines it as 'the quickening' - when the soul is seated. I like this, personally, unfortunately we have yet to be able to measure if there is a soul installed or not. Some like to "arbitrarily" draw the line at the point where (with somewhat heroic measures) the baby can survive outside the womb. Which is currently about 20 weeks.
    5 effing months.
To quote Rush, "If you choose not to decide, You still have made a choice"
Yah. I'm thinking that after 5 mo in the box, there is no 'proof' that the cat is dead, or the 'baby' "alive" but the odds are...

Spent 200+ miles on the road today, over an 11 hour day (DAMN this good economy!) and heard a LOT of "Wha'Happen??" dialog about MI flip from Trump. My thoughts, fwiw... 1) Bill Schutie was a SCHUTIE candidate. (Currant AG, running R-governator) He has always struck me as true prick w/ the patent on asbestos skivvies. Which is a skill set you might want in an AG, but not as Governor. REALLY hope we see a reprise of Pat Colbeck next time around. Smarter, and more personable. Handlers (or someone) convinced Mr Bill (Oh, NOOOOO!!!!) that delivering the the same cardboard message in the same flat voice w/ the same dead fish face, during the debates, was a winning prospect. I think his poor candidacy / performance reflected on the GOP in general, and dragged the whole ticket down. That John James, a newcomer, got w/in 6 of a career politico like Stabusnow is amazing. If GOP had bothered to support him at ALL, just Imagine. noise is, he may get offered 'head of party' in the interim (locally) as a consolation prize.
Gretchen Witmere (R - goobernator) was a BRILLIANT candidate - charming, cute, personable, and HAMMERING the heart string issues of Education (40th, or worse, nationally) preexisting conditions (a lie), auto insurance (51 of 50, nationally) and Fix The Damned ROADS (also 51st). Natch, she has NO comment on what to actually DO about any of it, but she engaged, emotionally, and THAT resonated down ticket.
Including to our AG elect, who opened by claiming moral superiority over all men.
Seriously. Yep, that's our AG elect.
    https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2017/12/01/dana_nessel_campaign_ad_trust_the_candidate_who_doesnt_have_a_penis.html#!

So, hey, GOP... you put up crappy candidates, give them crappy coaching, and fail to support the ones who survive #1 and #2?
Eff you. I'm NEVER giving you ANY of MY hard earned (3rd day of four, over 10 hours, and 2 more to go for a day off...) $$$
Rs DESPERATELY need to get their collective heads out of the ass's asses...
    Stupid effers.
Just MY opinion, that and $2.50 will get you a cup of coffee at a local 'breakfast' joint.. (Right? $2.50, for effing COFFEE? Not going back THERE anytime soon, I tell you! )

  44. @ Rickn8or: I was pretty busy leading right up the election results and missed anything about that. There could be that "refusal" resignation scenario as well over some topic(s). I think Trump had other priorities keeping hum busy; and also didn't want to upset the "team" shortly before mid-terms. It's pretty surprising this didn't happen earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @Laura D- Frankly, I wouldn't be averse to medical marijuana around my neck of the woods. As far as the $12/hour minimum wage, it will be very interesting to see how that plays out.

@Sandra Brown- When you say "bicameral," I picture a cross-dressing dromedary. And you're quite right that things are going to get crazy here. I'd try to flee to where YOU are, although it's my understanding that Everything In Australia Can Kill You. Seriously, what's up with that?

@ALH- It's sad to see the slap-happy way elections are too often run at the local level. Good for you for volunteering to work elections (and keep an eye on the kids).

@Rod- I agree that the $12/hour situation might increase the quality of employees; those who aren't worth the money can hit the bricks again. Regarding medical marijuana, I think there are a lot of legitimate uses for it. I'm still (mildly) afflicted with an odd movement disorder which has proved treatment resistant. Medical marijuana is one of the things that might help, but currently there's no way for me to try it legally...and ever since seeing the movie "Midnight Express" about 50 years ago, I've had a recurring nightmare about ending up in a Turkish prison if I ever try an illegal drug.

And good call that the stock market likes deadlocked government; I think the Dow was up over 500 points today.

@Geoff King- When you put it that way, you can barely lose.

@Emmentaler Limburger- I'm currently in horror of the idea of seeing Pelosi back in the limelight and wielding power. I don't know who I'd rather see become Speaker, but the name "anybody" springs to mind. And yes, I'll bet there were crazy amounts of voter fraud committed during the midterms. Not that the new Democratic House will be interested in investigating...

@Judi King- My sincere condolences. I'm a Midwesterner by birth, and it pains me to see the politics in that part of the country these days.

@Fish Out of Water- Good points across the board!

@TrickyRicky- It does seem that Colorado is now a colony of California, and for that you have my sympathy.

@rickn8or- Rather than the animated GIF from "Barton Fink" (one of my very favorite films), I'd originally looked for a graphic of a horrifying box from "Seven," but couldn't find anything compelling. I just watched the Youtube clip you linked to, and it's just as powerful and effed up as ever. Maybe even more so, now that we know that Kevin Spacey has "issues."

@Shelly- I'm glad to see the Beto signs coming down too. We didn't have a LOT of them, but it didn't take many to be annoying. And as I think I observed here recently, I didn't see a single home which sported a Beto sign AND an American flag. Coincidence? I think not.

@Sylvia Zbornak- Aha! I wasn't quite sure what your reference before pertained to, but you've cleared it up!

@NaCly Dog- All in all, that's a WAY more appropriate quote today than "What's taters, precious?"

@Dan- I think Ford's accusation is too blatantly vague to ever be fully disproved, and the Dems may try to take up that particular gauntlet again. Their goal won't be so much to really impeach him as to cripple him on the court. The rat bastards.

@John the Econ- Thanks for the uplifting insights. I was frankly pretty unhappy last night and this morning, but over the course of the day my mood improved. In part because my liberal friends on Facebook were so miserable that their vaunted "Blue Wave" never appeared.

  46. @Gee M- The Dems don't really need to make a viable case against Kavanaugh, they just want to make noise. And I wouldn't be surprised to see them demand that he recuse himself from any cases in which Democrats are involved, since he made his "angry partisan remarks" while defending himself against their baseless attacks.

@Mark Matis- I'm not sure ol' Nancy will get the job this time around. She's been having some noticeable mental lapses in public lately, and her advanced age may be off-putting to the young & dumb who are so central to the Dems' voting strategy.

@Anonymous- Sweet mother of pearl! Politics aside, someone should be bottling and selling "Peach 45" everywhere that finer fortified wines are sold.

@Fish Out of Water- Good and reassuring points.

@FlyBoy- I admire your sense of what will be "fun." Though I suppose we can all share some laughs along the way...

@James Daily- I'm glad to see Sessions moving along, though I didn't dislike him intensely. I was just frustrated by his inaction. Things will get very interesting now. And my hat's off to Dennis Hof, the Nevada brothel owner who managed to beat his Democratic rival despite being dead. That, my friend, shows style points.

@Regnad Kcin- I think a new sign should go over the door of the Attorney General that says "Nolens Recuse," which is Latin for "Refuse to Recuse."

@John the Econ- I didn't know that about Sessions. Good riddance, indeed.

@REM1875- You know, Sessions DOES look like a Keebler elf! And yes, Clan MacGregor is good for all the occasions you've mentioned, as well as for topical treatment of cuts, scratches, insect bites, and dandruff.

@Rod- There was just no way Trump could move Sessions out before the midterms. The Dems and media (but I repeat myself) would have made it sound like Trump had declared martial law.

@Geoff King- Agreed. The man just didn't work out.

@Cecil Adams (or more likely, whoever posted Cecil "The Straight Dope's" work) - What a wonderful poem! I wasn't kidding in the commentary that I'm fascinated by quantum theory and have a pretty developed cosmology of how quantum events are happening around us all the time - not just at the subatomic level, but right up here in life-sized "reality" where even humans (not just cats) can simultaneously be in an unresolved state of being neither living nor dead until the potentiality collapses into a single existence based on the observer. Even better, it's actually way more bizarre than that, which is why I tend not to talk about it. Reality is so deliciously effed-up that describing how the quantum universe works just gives most folks the heebie-jeebies (grin).

@rickn8or- I wasn't aware of that, but it would be interesting!

@Old Cannonballs- Yeah, nobody is burning down neighborhoods, looting stores, or harassing Dems in restaurants. Weird, huh?

    @Gee M- Dude, that's like...uh...poetry!

  47. @Pete (Detroit)- I remember when Obama declared that the question of when Life begins was "above his pay grade," but then did everything possible to support abortions up to and immediately after the moment of birth. So as far as he was concerned, the beginning of Life was neither biological nor spiritual, but only by governmental definition.

Good analysis of the various elections, and I share your opinion of the GOP and overpriced coffee.

@Rod- I think this election would have gone a lot worse had Trump gotten rid of Sessions in the run up to voting day. The Left would have been shrieking (more than usual, even) that Trump was out of control. Repeat that message long enough and loud enough and some will always believe it.

  48. It has started perhaps, There is a news report the democrats plan now to demand Trump's tax returns. A very measured "bright" move that.

That aside has anyone seen any data on voter turnout, and more micro, Republican voter turnout? I realize the area/ the electoral contest makes a difference, but my theory is the Republican voter base may have sat this one out.

  49. It gets better:
NEW: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg hospitalized after a fall at her office.
"Tests showed that she fractured three ribs on her left side and she was admitted for
observation and treatment," Supreme Court spokesperson says.
I wish her well but maybe she will spend this convalescing time contemplating her leaving the SC. Now, even she knows she should leave.

  51. I keep hearing Dim reps shrieking about the President's tax returns... so I checked.

Donald Trump is no more required to release his tax returns than you are. I don’t know what people are looking for unless they’re just hoping against hope that there is something in there that might embarrass him. I certainly doubt that there is anything embarrassing in there such as receiving public assistance or claiming an Earned Income Tax Credit.

If you’re concerned about potential conflicts of interest you can get your very own copy of his financial disclosure form online. It details every one of his business interests and even includes the amounts of income he received from each one... here is one link where you can find it:

And no, Congressman Adler...you can't assign yourself constitutional power as you see fit...Sessions is fired, nothing to see here...move along. No tax returns, no explanations 'bout nuffin'!
    Sad,sad.

  52. I pray that RBG gets well and lives a long life, after she now retires.

Trump's Tax Returns: We'll never see them. (unless rouge agents in the deep state see fit to leak them, as some may already have been) The reason he won't release them isn't because there's anything legally questionable within them. He's got the best tax lawyers in the country working for him to guarantee that. He won't release them because his biggest secret is that he is no where as rich as he's always boasted that he is. He's always been more about "brand licensing" than an actual company. Most of his companies are partnerships where the main asset he contributes is his name. His partners are the ones with the cash, and the ones who absorb most of the risk as well.

I've always doubted that he's an actual billionaire. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that the Clintons have a greater net worth than the highly leveraged Trump does.

@JtheE: I've always thought as much about Trump's wealth. In fact, I remember much the same thing came out probably 30 years ago. He only owned a sliver of the buildings and properties that bore his name, which he was renting out.

  54. Allow me to also add to the best wishes for RBG's speedy recovery. I also hope she has a long and happy retirement, and I wish the very best to new Supreme Court justice Amy Coney Barrett... :D

  55. I get the biggest hoot out of the fact that the Dems are not only poor losers (looking at Stacey Abrams in Georgia, and of course Hilarity Clinton), but poor winners (Nanny Pelosi, Jerry "the nad" Nadler, and pretty much all the House).

Regarding Jeff Sessions, I was hoping his attitudes toward Marrajawannah and asset forfeiture were mainly ploys to try to get the populace to nudge Congress to do something about those topics. (I'm not too favorable about another intoxicant being legalized until we can get a reliable method to check degree of incapacitation for DUI/DWI check purposes.)

Also think that it continues to be time for Republicans to start waging severe Lawfare on the Dems. Sue those who block roads (and the politicians and police who let them). Sue them when they have mobs wreaking chaos at someone's office or home or store. Sue for inappropriate use of Title IX or affirmative action or whatever.

Speaking of suing, if our new Democrat House of Representatives overlords don't do the stuff they're supposed to (for real budgets instead of omnibus continuing resolutions, etc.) do we, as citizens, have standing to sue Congress for not doing its job?

  56. Say it ain't so Joe:
Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen today announced an Interim Final Rule declaring that those aliens who contravene a presidential suspension or limitation on entry into the United States through the southern border with Mexico issued under section 212(f) or 215(a)(1) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) will be rendered ineligible for asylum.
