Many Are Cold, But Few Are Frozen

Considering the arctic weather conditions in much of the country, we thought it appropriate today to pull some climate-related cartoons out of the "Hope n' Change" deep freeze. Enjoy!

Stay warm, everyone!

  1. "Just a snow day"? Maybe, but Democrat politicians don't have a great track record blaming things on God!

  2. I live in San Diego....everyone is flying here. I figured that out in 1983! As Stilt said, stay warm my friends.

  3. Where they record temperatures makes the whole global warming farce invalid. Here in Flagstaff, the "official" temperature is taken at the airport and the sensor is located about 10 feet from the tarmac. I'm not saying all that black asphalt might corrupt the data, but I live less than 2 mikes from there and for some strange reason my thermometer always reads around 5 degrees less than theirs.
Here's an interesting article on that topic:

  4. That's 2 miles, not mikes. Although I actually have a couple of friends named Mike that happen to live between me and the airport.

  5. You do understand that if sea levels do rise the places the Puddle Pirates are able to walk to shore if their boats sink will be limited, don't you? Well, don't you?

  6. I sympathize with y'all ...........but it appear we will not be suffering from this particular cold spell....... Not that it will make y'all feel any better......

  7. It is hard to believe in global warming at 40 below zero but there are those. Robert Felix wrote a book ~20 years ago telling us a mini ice age was coming. What was odd in the book was how little the temperature had to drop for this to happen. We are getting snow and cold in places that never had it before, for instance in Bermuda, wear a coat.
Good old AlGore. Can you imagine him as Prez and Biden as VP? If you added both their IQs together the sum would not reach room temperature.

  8. I'm minded of the chap who phoned the local weatherman (with a small W), complaining that he just shoveled a foot of "sunny and warmer" off his sidewalk...

Which, in turn, reminds me of the mess that the Cat in the Hat made of the house's snowy sidewalks in his second book...

Has anyone noticed that Obama, Biden, Thing 1 and Thing 2 have never been photographed together?

    Some...Thing to think about, yesno?

  9. Yes this cold spell sucks. 6 am. Still dark. Only 54 degrees here in Ft Lauderdale.

  10. It's interesting that none of the dire predictions made by the folks who preach anthropogenic climate change have come to pass, yet anyone who is skeptical is portrayed as some kind of imbecile. Not that the climate isn't changing (always has, always will), but believing that man is the driving force behind it is like a crowing rooster believing that he's causing the sun to rise.

  11. It's so cold that some members of Congress have been seen with their hands in their own pockets.

  12. That's right Speaker; just lick the flagpole. The sea salt is delicious.
OK everybody else... Let's get back inside.

  13. I wonder if al gore will give back all that money he husked from the people now that he has been proven a huckster. Whenever I feel cold (It's 21 above here right now) I look at the weather report for Barrow or Minot.

  14. It's 28° here in Louisiana and the Dimocrats are still spouting off about global warming. I hope they freeze to death.

  15. Sure is cold out.... The entire discussion in the media about climate is invalidated owing to the ignorant propensity of same to use 'global warming' and 'climate change' interchangeably. They are not the same thing, and one is not real. Also, 'consensus' is not the same thing as 'science'. To equate these things, Mr Obama, is beyond disingenuous.
Observing the ongoing argument, therefore, is mildly amusing. It should be noted, however, that after twenty years of this nonsense the amusement is being overshadowed by the growing evidence of purposeful manipulation for the furtherance of the agenda...
    Just another day in paradise.

  16. Here at the tip of Lake Michigan, the kids have been out from school Monday, Tuesday and today. Will most likely be out tomorrow. When either child (16yo & 5yo) would be going to school it was -27 & now -25 with RealFeels of -58 & -57. Tomorrow morning at 7am it is supposed to be -21 RealFeel of -24. We havent had it this cold since Christmas of 1983 when the RealFeel was (with the outdated calculations. They have since improved and this next temp is around what we are having now.) -84.
Our "esteemed", Award-winning, local newspaper has an article written by a college educated journalist that cannot bring up a Search Engine and look up info. His article starts out, "With the arctic, er Antarctic, air..". Hey Dummy, its Arctic Air coming down. The Antarctic is having their Summer right now. And how does the Antarctic air swirl up & freeze us? IF that was possible, everyone in South America, Africa, Australia, etc would be dead. If I'm getting -21 (-57), those closer to Antarctica have to be getting -60, -70, -80 (with unknown wind chills) and they are unprepared for those temps. That idiot couldn't pull up a simple Google Map & look. Which is why I refuse to give them subscription money.

  17. Transferred to NAS Glenview, IL (~20 miles north of [then] Sears Tower) in early 1978. The white Easter (as late as it ever arrives) should have been a clue.

Then came the winter of '78-'79. First came the snow, 6-12" every three to five days from New Year's Eve until the end of February. Chicago area averages 40" snowfall each winter; the official total, measured at Midway Airport, was 80". We measured 108.5" on the ramp in front of Hangar One. O'Hare closed three times, as did NASG. We beat O'Hare back open each time.

Adding to the fun, there was no "January Thaw;" instead, the temp went below the cellar and didn't get up to zero for six weeks, averaging -20 for highs with wind chills approaching -80. Snow melt chemicals didn't work; we drove around on snowpack. City snow removal crews were scraping it up and dumping in into the Chicago River (it was too polluted to freeze).

Uniform regs went out the window; whatever kept the cold off and out was the order of the day. No one outside longer than 15 minutes.

To paraphrase Mr. Clemens: History may not actually repeat itself, but it sure as hell rhymes . . .

  18. @jpb252- "Not that the climate isn't changing (always has, always will), but believing that man is the driving force behind it is like a crowing rooster believing that he's causing the sun to rise."

    This, exactly.

I had the great pleasure of seeing The Wizard of Oz last Sunday on the big screen, part of the TCM series which puts significant movies out in the theaters every month. Any way, the classic line "Ignore the man behind the curtain" certainly can be applied to the AGW scam, just change it to "Ignore the giant fusion reactor in the sky", which the highly flawed climate models all seem to do.

  19. It's really cold when whiskey left in the truck gets slushy starting to freeze; Ice builds up on triple pane but aluminun-framed windows (the ice is ON THE INSIDE); and the dog balances on 2 cata-corner feet to pee outside; then nearly knocks you over coming back in.

Spring in Alaska is when about 6 months of dog shit thaws out in the yard. The same thing is happening in the woods as well; but it's not all from dogs.

  20. And the liberal denizens of the Glorious People's Revolutionary Republic of California are enjoying mild weather, and having basking in schadenfreude at the thought of so many deplorables in flyover country freezing off their cisnormative toxic masculinity identifiers.

  21. Seems strange that since the phony science behind the "climate change" agenda is one of my hot buttons that I have little to say today beyond the fact that the whole scam had to be rebranded to "climate change" from "global warming" exactly because a decade ago all the experts realized that "global warming" was going to be a much harder sell when weather events like this week would keep happening when they had previously told me 30 years ago that by now I'd be growing tomatoes north of the 45th parallel.

Sorry about the run-on sentence. But like everything else these days, I'll blame it on "climate change", which is now the universal excuse for pretty much anything.

As for the polar vortex, we're a couple of hundred miles to the west of it. It was a balmy 6-degrees when I got up this morning. Fortunately, I've got an ample supply of fossil fuels running the fireplace and a warm, fuzzy dog on my lap.

  22. I'm pretty sure Trump's snub of the Paris Climate Accord brought this chill to the bone weather. Bastard!

    But seriously....

Mrs. Muenster teaches fiddle (not violin... fiddle). We ran into one of her former students last Saturday, now 20 something and going to college. He said he was studying political science so he could one day become a politician and get something done about global climate change. He proceeded to blame all Republicans, alive and dead, for our dire situation, and everyone should drive an electric car, and ..... Mrs. Muenster pointed out to the moron that electricity comes from either coal or plutonium, so what's the point in driving an electric car? She also mentioned that the current arid, desolate areas of Wyoming, South Dakota and such used to be teeming with life, including dinosaurs, and she was pretty sure the dinosaurs didn't ruin it by driving Expeditions and using 100 watt light bulbs. I thought the kid was going to cry he was so pissed. I cried from laughing.

  24. Here in Northern Az. it is a sunny 49°. The normal high for today is 45°, so Global Warming, or at least Tarmac warming is is in full force.

    Then Climate Change and now
    EXTREME WEATHER!

  26. As to "consensus science" remember that at one time the world was flat. I do remember way back in the 70s in I believe Popular Science a story about how we were going to have a new ice age. Funny I don't hear to many people talking about that. Also isn't a bit presumptuous to think that outside of detonating a bunch of nukes at the same time humans could have that great of an affect on the climate? From the discussions I have with most people who have strong feelings about it they mainly seem to be bent out of shape of how it is going to effect them. "Oh it is going to be under water here!" Funny but here in SC there is an area near the middle of the state commonly called the "sand hills". Why because has lots of sand in it. Do you know what has lots of sand? Beaches. Now this area is roughly SEVENTY MILES FORM THE PRESENT COAST. Why do people have a hard time realizing that nature has a wonderful time rearranging the landscape?
    Rant mode off.

  27. Cold? What cold? Here in Northern Illinois it's up to -13 right now and it's like a tropical heat wave! This morning it was -25 and Thursday in the morning it's going to be -27. The wind chill will be around -50 AGAIN. We are heading to Florida in the morning and by the time we hit Nashville we are expecting it to be 70 degrees warmer. I had some things I had to do outside this morning and I wore a hat because it was nippy.

  28. I always wonder why people who live where FROZEN WATER falls from the sky every year are ever surprised by more cold or more snow...wear a few more winter undies and 3 pairs of winter socks inside the snow boots...
I passed a winter in the Hindu Kush (Kabul)...no winter gear per se, but it was so cold...I stay inside a lot here, but used to go out often in the snow, drove from Denver to Vail in a blizzard (6 hours at 35 mph)...
I love snow...I open my curtains so I can look out at it falling.
    :)

  29. I live in northern Oklahoma. We have received a couple of glancing blows from the "polar vortex" this winter, but nothing like some of you. When the weather people come on the tv, it's like their once a year sex is tonight. I turned the big seven-oh last summer and my thermostat quit. I have been cold since October. I'm like a bear in a cave. If I absolutely have to go outside, it's a big process. Fleece lined jeans, insulated boots, parka, etc. Anybody way down south that would like a house guest until July?

  31. @Readers- Sorry for my absence in replying to the comments above (and possibly for a few more days). I currently have a bunch of distractions going on - some good, some not so good, and some just stupid (specifically, what I now call "Stilton's Palsy" since I apparently get naming rights. It's basically full body hiccups when I get stressed (ie, always) and while not painful, it's tiring. Nothing to worry about - it's only an annoyance. And at least while it's cold, people will just think I'm shivering!

    ReplyDelete
  32. @ Stilton: There are a lot of popular remedies for hiccups but IMO the most reliable for standard hiccups is gulping down a heaping spoonful of granular sugar as fast as you can. It hardly ever fails for us; and the rush after that is nice too. Good luck, maybe it will work for Stiltons Palsy.

  33. @Stilton:

There! That oughta scare the hiccups (and twenty pounds of fertilizer) out of you!

    You're welcome. :D

  34. I pray I'll never get "naming rights" for a condition.
    Please get better.

  35. geeeeeeeez Stilt, once again we the readers have to take up your slack?!

    OK who am I kidding?
It would take me a week at least just to come even close to coming up with one of your witty titles, and I'd be into December trying to come up with the replies.
Seriously, maybe you need to take a step back to relieve the stress.
Not that I don't enjoy reading new posts 3 times a week but I'd prefer to hear from you once or twice that not at all, know what I'm sayin'?
