It Burns, Burns, Burns

stilton’s place, stilton, political, humor, conservative, cartoons, jokes, hope n’ change, ash wednesday, AOC, pelosi, Omar, muslim, anti-semitism, northam, blackface
Or maybe she was just splashed with Holy Water.
Just to be clear, we're not mocking anything about Ash Wednesday or the Catholic faith. If Nancy Pelosi wants to get ash-faced, it's certainly her privilege...and her sacred promise to give up something she loves for the 40 days of Lent will be good environmentally for the Earth, considering how many D-cell batteries she won't go through in that period.

But still, we find her public display of faith to be pretty much the ultimate in hypocrisy. This is a woman who proudly promotes infanticide, is an active obstacle to national security, and is a serial liar. And we're guessing that when she goes to confession, she has so many sins to confess that she has to pay staffers to recite all of the "Hail Marys" that she's racked up each week.

Among those recent sins is Speaker Pelosi's refusal to take a hard line condemning the blatant anti-semitism of new congressmuslim Ilhan Omar, whose anti-Israel rhetoric is actually supported by other blithering idiots on the left like AOC. Pelosi has made efforts to pass a nonbinding House resolution that members should probably pull back on bigoted hate speech, or at least try to curtail the amount of spittle spewing from their mouths while screaming invectives. So far, the other Dems aren't buying it because, hey, hate is fun! And the only source of Democrat power.

Of course, Nancy is far from the only politician to callously wrap herself in a religious facade while leading a life of spectacular immorality and straight-up evil.

But because of Lent, for the next 40 days we're forsaking the comfort we normally take in forgiving others for being scurrilous assholes, so we're calling her out.

BONUS: SPEAKING OF MAKING AN ASH OF YOURSELF...

FROM THE VAULT: THE SANDERS OF TIME...

Just a reminder that Sunday is Daylight Saving Time day, meaning that at some point in the middle of the night you should set your clock forwards or backwards by an hour - we don't really know which way and don't particularly care, other than to hate it. All we know with certainty is that we're going to have nausea and jet lag for the next two weeks, and it's the government's fault.

  1. Yeah, as a Catholic I'm appalled by Holy Mother Church's lack of calling out politicians such as Pelosi, Biden, and all the Kennedys. (Others, too, and not just Democrats. But it's late and they slip my mind.)

It does look like Pelosi has lost control of her herd of newbies. Maybe they just got into the medicine chest again.

  2. If you'd rather not fiddle with your clocks 2X annually, move to AZ or the Aloha State. It's a short, slippery slope from Infanticide to Geriatricide

  5. In small churches, crappy members of the congregation are usually chastised to the point they leave. Otherwise, Pelosi would find the tires of her car flat after her attendance. That, and a rotten fish on the seat next to the broken window. Since she's Catholic, this doesn't apply. She's probably in line for sainthood, and will be adored by future Catholics.

Daylight saving time doesn't really save daylight, but it brings to light how ignorance can't be destroyed by ultraviolet radiation.

  6. I'm just going to unplug all my clocks until the right time is reached... whatever time that might happen to be. Actually, since I retired I don't even wear a watch anymore.

  7. My phone is smart enough and my watch is dumb enough to know that DST is non-existent here in AZ.

  8. Hate the sin, not the sinner.

If someone were to campaign on eliminating DST, be they conservative or communist, they'd get my vote. The most ridiculous vestige of days long past to have carried on for so long. All of the rationale given in this modern age for its continuation have rung false - yet the geniuses in congress chose to modify it for more "energy savings". What a bunch of @#$%ing morons. A brief look at the history of DST in the US will note that it did not become the law of the land until AFTER the installation of Woodrow Wilson's bureaucratic state. Another symptom of that progressivism - a mental illness we continue to suffer the ravages of...

@Jess: I don't know where you get your information regarding Catholics, but we do not value Pelosi, the Kennedys or the like as you suggest. And we are apparently a bit more civil in our treatment of people than whatever faith your smaller "Church of the Holy Vandals" seems to espouse. Most Catholics are equally aghast that anyone can claim to be both a Christian and a Democrat; especially in light of their recent platforms regarding "getting God out of their platform" and infanticide. BUT, we have only to look at Luke 6:37 or Matthew 7:1-5 to understand how we should conduct ourselves - probably one of the most difficult things He asks of us, considering our nature...

  9. Hello,

    I'm twenty-five percent Blackfoot Indian.

Some Indian said, "The White Man is crazy, with their daylight savings time theory. They think that by cutting 12 inches off one end of a blanket and sewing it to the other end of the blanket, it will make the blanket longer".

  12. Personally as a Christian, I'm not particularly a fan of walking around with an ashen cross on my forehead. I find the practice in direct opposition to what is said in Matthew 6:

Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

Christ wanted righteous people to be identified only by the lives they lead and not by walking around with gunk on their foreheads. I find it to be the kind of cheap virtue signalling that the left as all about anymore. This has only been something in my protestant churches in the last decade or so. It may not be a coincidence that this practice became prominent during the rise of the uber-leftist infiltration of my denomination.

In fact, Matthew 6 is an indictment of pretty much everything the left has become:

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others.

Which brings us to yesterday's beclownment in the House of horrible Representatives, where the Democrats attempting to virtue signal regarding antisemitism instead demonstrated their abject inability or unwillingness to condemn antisemitism. They presented a resolution so watered down and meaningless that it almost endorses antisemitism. Not only could they not bring themselves to condemn the growing number of antisemites in their own cohort, they actually tried to turn it around and make it about "Islamophobia" even though crimes against Muslims represent barely a third of the reported crimes reported against Jews.

Hate crime incidents targeting Jews and Jewish institutions in the U.S. spiked about 37 percent between 2016 and 2017, according to data released Tuesday by the FBI... FBI data shows Jewish people and institutions were most frequently targeted, accounting for 58.1 percent of religious-based hate crime incidents. Muslims were the second most frequent target, at 18.6 percent.

Could you imagine the Republicans embracing and protecting David Duke? Of course not. But the Democrats seem content enough to embrace actual Nazis in their own party, and the media will cover for them.

  14. Anyone ever see those Dracula movies where he gets burnt by a cross? Maybe those aren't ashes on that Botoxed forehead.

DST... honestly, it doesn't bother me at all. Truthfully, I would prefer if we had year round DST because it's nice having daylight when I get home from work, and that extra hour in the summer let's me get more done outside. I heard Florida passed a law doing just that, but they are not allowed to actually do it because national laws only allow states to opt out of DST, not make it permanent. How stupid is that? This is another stupid ass federal mandate that Trump could probably eliminate with a simple executive order.

  15. Actually this resolution was a huge win for Sharia and the Democrats. 407 on record as opposing "hate" speech and "Islamophobia" Very soon expect this to be codified. A dangerous and wily attack on the 1st Amendment.

I think that it was very slick of Democrats to use a Muslim to trick the Republicans into approving of the camel's nose under the tent by getting Republican Inc. to demand action meant to shackle everyone.

  19. @Dan- I'd have a lot more respect for ANY church which refused to give its blessing (and, more importantly, political cover) to those alleged members who are obviously flouting church teachings. And yes, Pelosi's new kindergarten class is WAY out of control, which is simultaneously interesting and scary.

@sergio- Uprooting my family and moving to another state seems like even more trouble than resetting my clocks. Plus, it costs a lot more to live in Hawaii than I could ever muster. Per your other point, it IS a slippery - and direct - slope from Infanticide to Geriatricide. Get a couple of drinks into AOC, and she'd probably tell you the cutoff age she has in mind (hint: it will coincide with when you become eligible for social security and become a drain on the system).

@REM1875- Frankly, if Holy Water doesn't boil when touching Nancy, it puts additional doubts in my mind about its holiness.

    @JP- That's a fair point!

@Jess- Oh, I'm sure that Nancy only attends church in a town car guarded by Secret Service agents. Although if Moses could part the waters, surely a modern day equivalent could flatten her tires.

@Fred Ciampi- I haven't worn a watch in years. If it weren't for the occasional doctor visit, I'd have no need to show up anywhere on schedule.

@Geoff King- I am filled with respect for AZ.

@Emmentaler Limburger- I tend to hate both the sin AND the sinner, though I have a somewhat more casual view of sin than some do. Still, no mercy for those behind Daylight Saving Time!

And good to get your perspective on Catholics and their unavoidable relationships with at least a few spectacular assholes. With no irony at all, I can say that some of my best friends are Catholics. What they see in me, on the other hand, is baffling.

@Bill- Even if the government didn't believe it would make a blanket longer, if they could demand that the cutting and sewing were union jobs, they'd still call it "productivity" and a win.

    @Igor- When you're right, you're right. And you're right.

@udaman- Yikes! Glad you qualified that reference!

@John the Econ- Despite my amateur status in all matters theological, I'd like to say "Amen!" to your points. I, too, believe in doing good and moral deeds without calling attention to such.

The Democrats fell below even my low expectations for them with the way they mishandled the anti-semitism issue, somehow turning it into a toothless resolution against any kind of hate-ish speech about anybody...especially of the type thrown around by Donald Trump. When the Dems want to make a case against the President (which is always) they're quick to screech about the increase in hate crimes, but they NEVER admit that the biggest group of legitimate victims is the Jews.

@Regnad Kcin- Bonus: along with the two bags of Quik-Krete you get a free "beauty trough" to shove your face into!

@Colby Muenster- I actually prefer to think that the mark on Nancy's noggin is a drip of Holy Water that started sizzling away like the acidic blood from the Alien monster.

Regarding DST, pick a freaking time and LIVE WITH IT ALL YEAR! Sheesh. And my complaints aren't in jest. Mrs. Jarlsberg thought I was just joking, but I honestly don't know which way the clocks go, or what time it really should be after the changeover. I spend at least a week being out of sorts and sick to my stomach. More than usual, even.

    @Anonymous- That's a fascinating perspective. I think you're on to something!

@EB- Well, you've got MY vote for president!

@Sortahwitte- Baby powder? Baking powder? Hmm...

  21. A word from my own experience for DST. Spent a number of years overseas, in a country that doesn't observe DST and can day that the height of summer it there was enough daylight to go outside and work at 04:30. Can't speak for others, but 04:30 is not what I call normal waking hours.

  22. @ John the Econ: Kind of late for this but it's been a frustrating and busy day. I fully agree with your take on Matthew 6 et al and in many other things you post. They are well-informed, well-composed and useful. Between religion esp. Christianity in this season of Lent & Easter, Solicitors with their causes, completely ridiculous politics, healthcare, etc... it's getting to be a real drag. I could use a few more jokes or snap-its which would really piss people off so they will leave me alone for awhile.

Likewise Law...years of school, years of waiting for credibility by working hard.
Investment, banking, currency brokers...long hours, low pay...until you earn your cred.

Jews have never been part of the "money for nothing" group, that's mostly Christians buying Lotto tickets by the millions.

  29. @Rod, thanks for the kind words. I believe that the absolute worst aspect of the "social media" age we live in is that saying words have become even more important that actual deeds. Matthew 6 is clearly a warning against this. I see some of the worst of it among the young SJWs of my church who spend most of their time and energy spouting Progressive intersectional pieties and demanding "change", and yet doing very little of actual substance. The Progressives now literally demand it; It's now officially okay to actually be an open antisemite as long as you support a phony resolution against antisemitiesm. But we really shouldn't be surprised. Most of those caught up in the #MeToo dragnet were loud Progressives who publicly condemned sexism, just as those who most loudly claim that "climate change" is the defining crisis of our age have personal carbon footprints the size of small countries.

The one thing all of the above have in common is that they aren't willing to make any substantive changes in their lives. It's always up to someone else to change or to sacrifice and/or pay for it.

@James Daily said "Pelosi's hollow apology and play on word saying the Muslim basically doesn't understand English and is from a different culture is equivalent to trying to pick up a turd by the clean end."

It's worse than that, it was simple racism and an acknowledgement that the culture she represents is the problem. Just more of the transparent ever hardening bigotry of low expectations the Democrats have for those in their cohort who aren't playing the game properly. Cut her some slack. She and the people she represents are from a different culture. She's been an adult in this country for decades, but sill doesn't understand that you aren't supposed to say stuff like that in public. We'll straighten her out, eventually.

@Gee M, I agree that as a group, the Jewish people have done well economically because as a culture they've embraced the kind of values that made the middle class in the western world unprecedentedly wealthy; education, dedication to work and family. People with high degrees of envy combined with ignorance find it easy to confuse this level of social success with some kind of black magic.

I've never really understood Democrat Jews. (I think it's largely just social inertia going back generations) And But after decades of abuse and the Democrats being more comfortable showing who they really are, I think Democrat Jews are starting to wake up to the reality. And it's not just about Israel.

  30. My cats and dogs always loved DST in the spring because they get feed early. On the other side of DST they don't understand why they are being feed late. They say: "Feed me NOW, or I'm going to chew on your ankle." and they call me "Daddy meany"

  31. I'm a reasonably intelligent person but admit to trouble with DST conversions on & off. The reason for this is "Spring forward, Fall back" refers to the movement of display of the clock. You cat set the damned clost to read whatever time we want. let look at the world. This morning for example we not as far past past Sunrise, and it's a longer time to to Sundown than it was at "this time" yesterday. That means we are BEHIND the natural action. So what's this Spring forward crap?

I really hope this has confused the rest of you, and my wife who used to give me a hard time about it. [grin]

  34. I have been led to believe that Benjamin first came up with DST to save on candles in the days before electricity. That point is moot since the invention of the electric light bulb. I do not know that for a fact. What I do know is that the candy industry lobbied Congress a while ago to move the fall change to after Halloween so the kiddies would have one more hour of daylight to trick or treat, therefore selling more candy.

  36. From: https://www.timeanddate.com/time/dst/history.html
Benjamin Franklin, the Father of DST?

"Many sources also credit Benjamin Franklin with being the first to suggest seasonal time change. However, the idea voiced by the American inventor and politician in 1784 can hardly be described as fundamental for the development of modern DST. After all, it did not even involve turning the clocks. In a letter to the editor of the Journal of Paris, which was entitled “An Economical Project for Diminishing the Cost of Light”, Franklin simply suggested that Parisians could economize candle usage by getting people out of bed earlier in the morning. What's more: Franklin meant it as a joke."

When Did DST Start in the USA?

"In 1916, during World War I, Germany became the first country to adopt DST to save energy for the war effort. Many countries across Europe soon followed suit. In the US, “Fast Time”, as it was called then, was first introduced in 1918. The initiative was sparked by Robert Garland, a Pittsburgh industrialist who had encountered the idea in the United Kingdom.

Only 7 months later, DST was repealed. However, some cities, including Pittsburgh, Boston, and New York, continued to use it."
