The Candidate for the Little Guy
Bernie Sanders moved another step closer to the White House recently when he stunned his political opponents by securing the endorsement of diminutive actor Danny Devito. The impact can hardly be overstated, considering the accepted truth of the old political idiom: "As goes Danny Devito, so goes Rhea Perlman."
Unsurprisingly, Bernie is making a big deal out of the endorsement of a microscopic sitcom star because it will hopefully distract the media from the fact that, as revealed by Project Veritas, one or more of Sanders' campaign field organizers has let the cat out of the bag about the draconian, anti-American nightmare that a Sanders administration could represent.
Kyle Jurek, who has been paid around $10 grand from Bernie's coffers so far, says on videotape that "cities will burn" if Sanders doesn't win, "cops will get f*cking beaten in Milwaukee," and, as was the case in Cuba, "if you want to fight against the revolution, you're going to die for it, motherf*cker!"
Jerek went on to explain that Bernie's much touted "free education and free college" would really amount to propaganda mills and re-education camps for the "Nazis" who aren't meeting the Left's expectations, and finished his diatribe explaining that "the only thing fascists understand is violence, so the only way you can confront them is with violence."
All of this seems at odds with amiable Bernie's promises of free everything for everybody always, but falls right into place with historical accounts of pretty much every socialist revolution ever. Although Jurek, which might well be pronounced "jerk" for all we know, may represent the fringier edge of Sanders' camp, it is an inescapable truth that the kind of socialism Bernie is proposing can only end in violence, poverty, and fascistic control of our nation.
Danny Devito or not, we can't cast a vote for that.
BONUS: AT THE MOVIES (Spoiler Free)
In our ongoing attempt to fight socialphobia and embrace the modern theater-going experience, we ventured out to see the film "1917" yesterday. The reviews have been great, and it seemed like the sort of thing that deserves to be seen on a big screen.
It's a very good film and we can easily recommend it - especially on the big screen - but it's also a bit of an odd duck (which is more of an observation than a complaint).
The key concept of the movie is simple: in World War I, two young British soldiers are given an extremely dangerous mission, which will see them crossing enemy lines, with only a short amount of time to accomplish it.
Interestingly, the film is (brilliantly) shot in a way that more or less makes the entire adventure into a single, uninterrupted shot with the mission occurring in real time. The upside of this is we get a guided tour of the Hell that was the battlefield, with an abundance of disturbing and frightening detail that reminds us "this is not where you want to be."
The downside of this approach is that the film can't and doesn't explore any deeper story, nor the inner lives of the main characters. Rather, we can only see what is external and happening "right now." We aren't so much an audience as omnipresent witnesses...viscerally feeling the horrors of war.
Our best advice is to accept the film for what it is - an experience as much as a narrative. Highly recommended!
I read about the Jerk's comment earlier, and that billionaires are going to get re-educated by doing hard work breaking rocks. I must admit, that last part made me laugh for awhile but I don't know if The Jerk said it or not. He's got another think coming if he thinks the privileged few would let anyone get away with that attitude without slapping some sense into him first, lol. (Though, he might like it, ya know.)
ReplyDeleteWorse yet, he's probably a privileged white boy who's never done anything dirty or even remotely resembling real work in his life. And just what does he think Bernie is I wonder? Other than his version of God, I mean, he's a capitalist billionaire too. I suspect some of these radical leftist, socialistic, nihilists are going to be in for a few lessons from real people that they have no idea exist.
They think everyone is just going to roll over and go with their little power trip flow while they rule with violence. I must say it's only going to happen in their nasty little wet dreams. Some of the anti-social-fakker crowd who love to harass everyone have had the same experience and the whining is pretty epic on their part. They haven't run into any of the really mean and angry people yet, just the ones who are still reasonably polite when confronted with thugs and violence. And I'm not really think of many of us, quite a few of the gangs would like to get their licks in before they take over these groups.
Off to see 1917 tomorrow. Looking forward to it. I understand Danny Devito
ReplyDeletewas up for a role in it but wasn’t able to be seen in any of the foxhole shots.
And to think I was a HUGE devito fan long ago and then he decided to share his wisdom with us one drunken morning ...... It appears to be heading south for him ever since. Still winning in the 'how low can you go' contest by stagger under the limbo stick while walking (staggering) erect. It is not his stature that makes him a little man.
ReplyDeleteFrom the reviews of '1917' it sure sounds a lot like the Australian 1981 movie 'Gallipoli' that a young Mel Gibson co-stared in (Two Australian sprinters face the brutal realities of war when they are sent to fight in the Gallipoli campaign in Turkey during World War I. 1915) Although they go into much more of the soldiers lives.
The horrors of that war are beyond belief and yet the men did their duty to the very end. (just a few year before "woman and children" got into the life boats on the Titanic while the men bravely faced their deaths) Many people my age had their grand dads fight in that war and their children (our Dads) fight in the next war ...... have we really fallen so far ...so fast ???
The young man assumes that he will have a gun, and that the people he will be punishing won't. Keep that in mind.
ReplyDeleteThere will never be a truly realistic war movie. Who would go into a theater that smells like the rotting meat on a battlefield?

ReplyDeleteSad day for our Republic when a voter(s) base their electoral decisions on what celebrity has endorsed which candidate running for public office.
ReplyDeleteSaw 1917 last night. Excellent movie, starting with the pastoral scene in the beginning, dissolving into the hell of the trenches as the two protagonist go to get their orders.
The movie seems to take it cues from Greek tragedies/epics for what my opinion is worth. But glad to see a film about WW1 instead of another about WW2. WW1 defined the 20th Century and we are still living with its effects in the 21st Century.
Bernie found his mini-me!
ReplyDeleteYou know the staffers can't keep their mouths shut. But it doesn't seem to matter that the beans get spilt all over. No one bothers to clean them up.
And to circle back to our own time, to show the dangers of how a blindly fanatical, hate-filled group of people (fauxahonas, Bernie, AOC, Omar, the howling 'resistance'mob) can bring hell down around our ears, recall many years ago in a history lecture in school, the teacher sharing with us a story about one of the survivors of the group who assassinated the Archduke. In an interview, this survivor was asked about the bloodshed and horror (and not limited to WW1 ) their act of violence had caused, and if he had any regrets/remorse, and his reply was none......
ReplyDeleteWhew!
The friends who have seen it also highly recommend it too. To me, who hasn't seen it yet, it sounds similar to the old Mel Gibson movie GALLIPOLI (1981), made back when he was making dramatic movies. Thanks for the recommendation.
ReplyDeleteThe communist Bernie Sanders supporter Jurek sounds like a real 'People Person', lol. Some peoples kids, eh ?
Louie De Palma endorses Bernie? Even the Reverend Jim would scoff at that!
ReplyDeleteWWLD? What Would Latke Do?
ReplyDeleteBig deal! Dave Chappelle is coming to South Cackylacky and doing 2 shows for some shlub named
ReplyDeleteAndrew Yang that supposedly is running for the Democrat nomination. One show is in Chickenbone the state capital and the other is at the coast in Chucktown which I think is Charleston. Whatever.
In other South Cackylacky nooz, the SC Democrat party has said that Cory Booker's departure from the campaign has, and I'm gonna quote the McClatchy rag noozpaper here:
"Cory Booker’s exit a big loss in 2020 presidential race, SC Democrats say"
Bwahahahahaha.... Booker was polling +/- ZERO but it's a "big loss". They sure do set the bar low down here. You'd think they were doing the Limbo.
Kudos to Stilton for getting a toon in the 'best toon of the year' line up over at Pookie's Toons. Let's all help him make teh top 10, if not #1!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.therightreasons.net/topic/90750-voting-thread-2019-todays-toons-favorites-final-round/
That was big of him.
ReplyDeleteShort of time this morning (no pun intended). Will vote per Pete above after work tonight. GO STILTON!!!!
ReplyDeleteI plan on having fun and going on the 29th of February (yes there is a 29th this year) to the democratic primary here in SC and just picking one of the non top tier candidates just to screw with their results. Hey if they can go to a republican primary then turn around is fair play. It will have to be close enough to the top candidates but not in the top group I just cause the press to get confused about how people are polling.
ReplyDeleteWell crap! I ALWAYS vote for the candidate who pulls in the most endorsements from Hollywood shitheads, and I was planning on voting for Trump. Whatever will I do now?! Sorry, Donald, I have to go with Dickweed DeVito's endorsement this time. It just carries too much weight to be ignored.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, Eastwood is backing Trump. DeVito is backing Bernie. Who do YOU respect more as a human being who isn't part of the Hollywood swamp?
Wow! Bernie's secured the much sought after Danny DeVito endorsement. I guess after the separation from Rhea Perlman decades ago, he's not as rich as he used to be.
ReplyDeleteWhat? You mean that "democratic socialism" isn't all warm and fuzzy?: I don't know who to credit this to, but there is a saying that goes "Communism starts at the point of a gun, socialism just ends up there." Personally, I can't get all that excited about one of Bernie's over-enthusiastic supporters because it's just not any surprise to me. I've studied history. I've known people who actually experienced socialism first hand in all it's bloody glory.
So it's no surprise to me that there are those in Bernie's camp who understand there will be those of us who will not willingly become their slaves. I have no doubt that this Kyle Jurek is no different than the other avowed socialists I knew when I was in school who had absolutely no intention of becoming just one of the "workers". And I have no doubt that Kyle knew people like me who make no secret of their contempt for socialism and its goals. So Kyle, like many other more honest socialists know that violence is a require tool for their revolution, and that violence works. I have to grant Kyle a certain degree of respect in understanding socialism enough to know what is required in order to make it work, and his honesty in expressing it.
For anyone who has studied socialism to any relevant degree, one aspect becomes glaringly clear: Socialism is only viable as long as all citizens are accountable to each other. A "family" could be considered a socialist unit. Small collective farms and the kibbutz have had limited success. But they only work because all members are held accountable to each other. When a member of the collective slacks off or behaves in a manner contrary to the well-being of the collective, they are corrected or expelled.
(Remember, Bernie himself got kicked out of a commune because he was a slacker)
The problem with socialism is that it does not scale. While it's relatively easy to hold people accountable to each other in a family or even small commune setting, it simply becomes impossible once the collective grows larger. There is no way that every citizen in a diverse country of over 300,000,000 can possibly be accountable to every other citizen.
This is why coercion is ultimately required in order to make socialism viable. Since it's not possible for you to be held accountable to each of your 300,000,000 fellow citizens, the state will have to make you so. And unlike in a commune where everyone is supposedly an "equal", "the state" as a matter of practicality and inevitability is superior to all.
At first, the coercion may be subtle; taxes on unapproved behavior or fines. But ultimately, re-education, guns and gulags are involved.
As for Jerek's assessment of what "free education" will really be, I have to wonder just how they would have to change the existing establishment to make it more like he envisions. IMHO, the existing paradigm is actually better, because they've suckered the students into going 6-figures into their own debt to absorb 4-or-more years of propaganda. Why stick the rest of proletariat with the bill?
Stilt, from your review, 1917 sounds like the (unending) D-Day landing intro scene in Saving Private Ryan for its ability to put the audience into the horrific ambience of war. Not sure I'm ready for a movie-length version of that!
ReplyDeleteAs for the DeVito endorsement, it sounds like the initial dickishness of his Renaissance Man character. I think I'll overlook it...
Thanks for the Right Reasons link, @Pete (Detroit)!
WTG Stilton on top 40 listing ..... Friends let's try and make it #1 !!!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.therightreasons.net/topic/90750-voting-thread-2019-todays-toons-favorites-final-round/
Pete (in Cheboygan or some place up there)
Thanks for the heads up !!!
Some great cartoons over at Pookie's, but I had to give my numero uno nod to our very own Stilton MacGregor.
ReplyDelete1917: Intriguing. I'll definitely see it, although will probably wait until it comes to streaming or at the Redbox.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of WWI: Beginning in 2014, I had expected much more in the way of 100th anniversary awareness of the first war to end all wars, and the seminal event that set up pretty much everything that happened for the rest of the 20th century. And yet, through 2018 there was very little. Since then, I've been pondering the reasons:
A) Living memory: Unlike with WWII, first-hand living memory of WWI disappeared over a generation ago. All of the participants have been gone for a long time.
B) The sorry state of education in modern history: Even when I was in elementary and then high school little more than half a century after the event, WWI was barely covered beyond America's brief involvement in it. What I know about WWI was entirely the result of independent study of my own volition. I'm willing to bet that if you were to walk down the street and randomly ask passersby, less than 5% could tell you the years it took place, where, or the participants.
C) Uncomfortable politics: WWI was the death knell of the waning Ottoman empire, and the engineering of the modern Middle East by the western victors. Considering the current state of the Middle East and out of undue sensitivity to certain demographics, it's easier just to pretend it never happened.
D) I can't say if the same indifference took place in Europe, but I suspect they did, largely because of item C.
I have to wonder if the same thing will happen when living memory of WWII is finally gone, as it will be in a very short time. I'm afraid so. It's already safe to openly declare that the Holocaust never happened.
@mamafrog, most of the socialist idealists were privileged. Marx certainly was.
@TMay said "The young man assumes that he will have a gun, and that the people he will be punishing won't.
Which is why "gun control" is at the top of their agenda. They don't have a chance to pull it off with an armed citizenery.
@Desertrat, no movie can fully re-create the horror.
It's always "after the revolution!" Each socialist has a vision of the future where he or she will be standing on Lenin's Tomb and reviewing the military of the new Socialist State. It would seem to be extremely crowded up there. As they say, socialism has never been given a chance to show how great it is. In my mind I see the bullet behind the ear or the long, slow boxcar through the cold, dark forest. The useful idiots like this one will become the new cannon fodder or their bodies used to reinforce the walls of the trenches.
ReplyDeleteLike they say, kiddies, you can vote your way into socialism, but you must shoot your way out.
I don't go to movies. Like buying a newspaper, it's giving money to the enemy...
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't worry too much about the likes of Jurek. This bernie punk wouldn't last a minute in his envisioned conflagration - too many having opposing ambitions have actually been trained in how to bring the fight to someone else. Their little ski masks only serve to make target acquisition more crisp...
@ John: A hearty second to your point on WWI. I too barely remember it being taught in school and have vague memories(the opening music) of a series aired by CBS on the 50th anniversary of the war.
ReplyDeleteI owe my knowledge/outlook to the late Barbara Tuchman's books, all of them. Personally, while Germany got stuck with the butcher's bill, I blame all the original warring powers for the Great Western Civilization Death Wish. Austria-Hungary for trying to hold on to an empire that was neither an empire or Austro-Hungarian. Imperial Russia for unilaterally deciding it would be the Slavs 'big brother'(Stalin of course would accomplish this years later). The Germans for dropping Bismark's policy of not directly challenging Great Britain's interests. The French with their thirst for revenge, and the British for its meddling to keep from rising, one dominant power on the European continent.
Jurek the Jerk also stated that the Bolsheviks treated those people in the gulags well. The gulags were basically free re-education camps in which the prisoners....er I mean students were actually paid a salary. Frightening to think people like Jurek can be that insane and still we walking about unsupervised. That he is a Bernie aide is not at all surprising.
ReplyDeleteHe also said that if Bernie is not nominated on the first or second ballot, Swillwaukee will burn. When the Bernie nuts clash with the Biden loons and you can throw in the Liawatha losers, it will be great popcorn eating time. I hope the cops stand back and let them pound one another. If a few get seriously hurt or they even kill one another, oh well. There are plenty more crazies where those came from.
@Fish Out of Water, if you were to repeat your description of WWI to a millennial, you'd get a blank, glassy-eyed look, before a reply of "Okay, boomer.".
ReplyDelete@John: headshakingly, sadly, probably true.
Delete@Emmentaler Limburger, "Their little ski masks only serve to make target acquisition more crisp..." Yes if you look at them in their black outfits and masks they look amazingly like a B27 qualification target. Kind of convenient.
ReplyDeleteSean Hannity: The Biden shakedown and the real Ukraine scandal - Video

ps. could you please add CC to your blogroll? Thanks!
I just recently read Barbara Tuchman's "The Guns Of August". I need to read the other books she wrote about WWI.
ReplyDeleteTwenty-some years ago I found a fascinating book about WWI called "Back To The Front: An Accidental Historian Walks The Trenches Of WWI" by Stephen O'Shea. I just now found it and put a hold on it at my local public library and daytime homeless shelter. I highly recommend this book!
@mamafrog- If you watch the video, you can see that Jurek is exactly the kind of privileged white turd-blossom you'd expect. The only violence this a**hole is capable of is vandalism, though I'm sure he'll happily call on others to commit actual bloodshed. If they really stage their "revolution," it's going to be over very quickly.
ReplyDelete@Section147- To be clear, "1917" is a good movie (I enjoyed it) but not a great one. The "gimmick" of one continuous shot is a good one and used correctly here, but without it the movie would have been considered pretty generic. Even with Danny Devito.
@REM1875- I'm still a fan of Devito, but not his politics. If he wants to support Bernie, well, he has the right to be wrong. If, on the other hand, he starts calling people like me a Nazi, I'll reluctantly say goodbye to his works. And it dawns on me that I've heard good things about the film "Gallipoli" but have never seen it. I'll have to change that.
@Tmay- I hope he continues to assume that, just so we can eventually (and briefly) see the look of surprise on his face.
@Desertrat 1- "1917" is a far cry from a "realistic" war movie, although it has an impressive immediacy. A truly realistic war movie could never be an entertainment of any sort.
@Fish Out of Water- After seeing "1917," I'm eager to see the Peter Jackson documentary "They Shall Not Grow Old," in which he used all of his technological tools to take jerky, damaged film footage from World War I and restore it to smooth-moving color with sound.
@Jim Irre- I don't know yet how important this Jurek character is, although I suspect he's just a small time butthole shooting his mouth off. Project Veritas says that it has more such people ready to put on display, which will be interesting.
@Fish Out of Water- Some of these people would genuinely be pleased to see the world on fire. What's frightening is the ease with which someone could now make it happen.
@Anonymous- Again, I want to check out Gallipoli now.
@Geoff King- Now I want Reverend Jim to be Bernie's running mate!
@M. Mitchell Marmel- Bless Andy Kaufman's heart, I don't think even he could have known how surreal our lives were going to become.
@WDS- The idea that Cory Booker's total burnout is a "big loss" to anyone is hilarious.
@Pete(Detroit)- Lots of great stuff over there at the cartoon competition. As the saying goes, it's an honor just to be nominated.
ReplyDelete@judgeroybean- I see what you did there.
@TrickyRicky- I appreciate the support, though I encourage people to visit the site more to enjoy all the cartoons than to vote for me. Although if you're over there anyway...
@John25mm- I admire your duplicity (grin).
@Coly Muenster- I love me some Clint Eastwood, but celebrity endorsements don't really sway me either way. Although if Clint was standing next to me, I'd probably do whatever the hell he told me to do.
@John the Econ- An excellent overview of the reality of socialism and why the end result is always inevitable.
@Pat Cummings- In fairness, I don't remember any part of "1917" being as intense as that D-Day landing scene. Powerful and sobering.
@REM1875- If I get the #1 spot in the cartoon competition, do I get to run against the #1 liberal "humorist" in November? I'm ready!
@Old Cannonballs- There's a lot of great stuff in the competition. I'm happy with the cartoon chosen to represent my stuff because it's got a nasty little edge to it...there's a punchline, but it's a disturbing one. Just the way I like it!
@John the Econ- The "one continuous shot" gimmick will probably lose a lot on a smaller screen, but will still be highly watchable. And for those of us who are interested in filmcraft, it was fascinating (albeit a bit distracting) to be constantly thinking "how did they pull THAT shot off?"
Great, and sad, points about the toll of "living memory" on history. Especially in this age of distracting and misleading propaganda.
See the Deep State may now have struck with the interestingly timed release of the GAO report on the Ukraine bally hoo
ReplyDelete@Stilton,
ReplyDeleteI know this Wednesday post has likely run it's course, but I have to say, I can't believe you used the words "liberal" and "humorist" in the same sentence.
Thanks spammer-scum @GamesBX2.org! More domains to add to my blacklists!
ReplyDeleteOkay, now I have put a hold on "They Shall Not Grow Old" at my local public library. Some would say that the final battle of WWI was fought in 1945. Some would say it is still to be fought...
ReplyDelete
