Biden Goes Viral

Okay, Shotgun Joe didn't actually say this about coronavirus. Or much of anything else, for that matter, which is starting to puzzle a number of people. Well, it puzzles people who aren't quite clear on the concept that if the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is given airtime, he's likely to forget about coronavirus entirely and start babbling about how the raisins in his oatmeal look like flies and, importantly, it's pee-pee time again.

Meanwhile, President Trump is not only continuing to actively manage the Covid19 crisis, but he's also still fully up to speed on world events...

But politics and pestilence aside, there really IS some exciting news today...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAUGHTER JARLSBERG!

Quarantine, birthday, daughter jarlsberg, bug
Whee.
Yes, today is Daughter Jarlsberg's birthday, which will be celebrated by staying indoors, avoiding other human beings, substituting K-rations for ice cream and cake, and unwrapping presents which were scrounged from our survival pantry ("Oh, boy...a First Aid kit!").

Okay, it's not an ideal time for parties. But it is an ideal time for families to be together, and the fact that she moved back home (for career advancement) on about the last day the world was normal-ish is something we're grateful for.

Of course, that career advancement is on hold for a bit; she's a speech-language pathologist at a time when mouth-centric jobs are more dangerous than having dirt on Hillary Clinton. But she is creative, witty, intelligent and talented and using this time for self-improvement. She'll definitely be kicking post-apocalyptic ass!

So please join us in wishing her a very happy socially-isolated birthday!

  1. Daughter J! The very best to you on your birthday! I'm glad you escaped from Oklahoma in just the nick of time. It's so bad here, that as an introvert, I'm having a great time. Best wishes also on your quest for a job that will allow you to shine! I'm sure your mom and dad are grateful you're home at this time. I also really like the color of your birthday shelter, oh I mean "tent". Is there going to be a circus?

  5. Happy Birthday, Daughter J! And during these infuriating times, keep in mind what we military types always used to say during wartime -- or, more accurately, after the war, when we noticed that we'd survived -- "Eventually, everything makes a great war story."

  6. Happy Birthday Daughter J, and congratulations to Stilton and Mrs J for having a daughter who learned a usable profession-type of trade in college rather than just something like pre-Renaissance French recursive philosophic dialogues.

  7. When my child was about 6 I realized that I could understand him but no one else could. I got him to a speech teacher and no one can tell he used to struggle with speaking clearly. Bless all the Speech teachers!!!

  12. To Daughter J: Ah! An opportunity to remember & tell this story about Speech Pathology: As a graduating high school senior when touring the campus of a nearby prospective college (This is an OLD story), a small group of us were being shown around the campus by a volunteer co-ed. As we arrived at one building she explained: "This is where we steach peep therapthy". Happy Birthday & enjoy the isolation. It can be better than a lot of alternatives.

  19. A year ago I was opining that there was absolutely no way that Joe could hold his own in any honest forum where he might be challenged by real questions. He was already floundering in front of friendly audiences with hosts who were tossing softballs. Today, he can't even hold his own reading prepared responses from a teleprompter in his own home with his wife's hand up his back. No doubt his handlers will be using the current crisis to find excuses why no live debate with real questions and Trump should take place.

The Norks: Remember two years ago during the Olympics when the MSM was fawning over Kim's sister, Kim Yo Jong for no other reason than to contrast against Trump? It would be interesting if she ended up running the place. I doubt it would be for long, though.

Happy Birthday, Daughter J: It's a blessing to be with family at a time like this. I hope.

  22. Happy birthday to Daughter J. As a grandmother of a wonderful young lady with Down Syndrome, I appreciate all the speech pathologists who have helped my little girl.

  23. Happy birthday, D-J!

I recall a time when I had no idea what a speech pathologist did... Then someone near and dear had a Traumatic Brain Injury (bicycle/car collision, not stroke), and it took 8 months of speech-language therapy to bring back the ability to communicate cognition.

    It's a noble profession!

@John the Econ: re: the Norks, I prefer the thought expressed this morning on a random morning talk show. Jung Un has all the underlying causes except age, and North Korea can't afford to close their borders to the Chinese. It's far more likely he's hunkered down, pretending to be be invincible to all disease when actually he's practicing extreme social distancing for all he's worth!

    @SteveO: Are you in Australia?

  25. Happy birthday, Daughter J.!

Not on topic here, but I'm not sure how to send this directly to Stilton, but I highly recommend "The Trayvon Hoax: Unmasking the Witness Fraud that Divided America." Watch it. Yes, it's a full length movie, but well worth the time to view. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAw5ykIPOBM

  26. @Readers- Many thanks for all of the birthday wishes! I can assure you that Daughter J appreciates all of them - especially since not much ELSE special will be happening here today.

Also thanks for the good words about Speech Therapists. They do a lot more than one might think, including working with traumatic brain injury patients, stroke victims, people with swallowing disorders, autistic kids, and a lot more. It's a noble calling.

  29. Happy birthday, Daughter J! Just remember: Clan McGreggor is not just for keeping vocal cords moist. And perhaps she can answer a nagging question I have had for a long time - whose cruel idea was it for the word “lisp” to contain the letter “s”?

  30. Best wishes to your daughter, Stilt! My daughter's 27 and autistic, so only gets part-time work during the holiday season. Would that I had your daughter's skill-set; it took quite a while for her to speak with clarity that others could understand.

/Highlander reference - If you haven't seen it, I can't recommend it enough.
Glad you're still apparently doing well, as I'm sure us long timers are.
