I'm still doing the "staycation" thing this week, but didn't want anyone to show up here without getting something for their effort. And so, here is another old cartoon that my Dad did about 70 years ago.
Meanwhile, what little we've seen of the news still pretty much stinks. Want to talk about it? The comments section is open for business!
That's actually an interesting idea: Mount a fishtank inside the door so the fish are visible from outside...
ReplyDeleteYour Dad's vision could come to life!
Or maybe that's window in the door and the house is a giant aquarium. Something fishy about it.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that Chief Justice Roberts has a history of seizures?
ReplyDeletehttps://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/chief-justice-john-roberts-was-hospitalized-for-head-injury-after-fall-last-month
@Fred- Could be, but I'm not sure what can explain his SCOTUS decisions.
ReplyDelete@TrickyRicky - Perhaps his brain is locked in a shit-eating position as well......
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding? A blow to the head explains a lot about his recent decisions.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you Uncle Stiltie...
ReplyDeleteIf you had a robot, it would carry Clan MacGregor instead
Rarely do this, didn't get the picture to paste.
ReplyDeleteIt is the wine rack robot in The Burning Platform, Friday Fail, Whatfinger news.

With all the changing of "Names' and removal of statues, it won't be long when more will arise...Fourteen of the pre-Civil War Presidents were slave owners. Do they get "wiped out" of our history? No more Washington state or monument, cities and towns, street names, etc. What about the Black Hills of South Dakota? Just Ask'in....
ReplyDeleteSuuuuurrrrrreee. Go on your staycation and leave us out here with the news.
ReplyDelete@Stilton,
ReplyDeleteMethinks your Pa probably loved Gary Larson's stuff. Probably Charles Addams and Gahan Wilson too.
I sure hope Mrs J. is doing better as well as your fridge. Murphy's law seems to be in full effect at stately Jarlsberg manor. I'm reminded of the bit on Hee Haw:
Gloom, despair and agony on me.
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery.
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.
Gloom, despair and agony on me.
Did y'all see Rand Paul's response to San Fran Nan's list of eleven statues that "must be removed?" Paul pointed out that nine of the eleven were Democrats, and praised Nancy for her good choices.
On furlough next week! Maybe I'll drive up and find Fred and his hooch! Fred, if you see a silver Audi SUV coming up your driveway, don't shoot!
I need better instructions to Fred's bunker.
ReplyDeleteStilt,
ReplyDeleteNot all the news this week is bad -
Supreme Court upholds autonomy of religious employers in employment discrimination cases -
Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg dissented.
Supreme Court Lets Employers Opt Out of Providing Free Birth Control -
Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor dissenting.
Hmmmmm ... Seems to be a pattern here.
Gimmer of Hope?
@Colby: https://bongino.com/rand-paul-schools-nancy-pelosi-on-monument-removal Hee hee hee! Couldn't have happened to a nicer witch.
ReplyDeleteThat cartoon reminds me of something that happened to me. I went to check on my rental house after no check arrived. As I was reaching up to knock on the door, I noticed water flowing over the sill. The toilet water supply line upstairs had burst. Drywall chunks were riding a water fall down the stairway.
ReplyDeleteSix months later, I had the place rented again.
Interesting way to discourage door to door salesmen visitors and religious zealots
ReplyDeleteRest up. We'll still be here when you come back fully rested.

Over the weekend in a well-known smaller town in western central Missouri; some idiot or idiots vandalized the old & treasured stature of WW1 Doughboy out in front of the courthouse. They did some damage but were not able to get it pulled down. If/when apprehended local officials promise to throw the book at them. Some of us think all THEY need to do is publish their names & addresses.
ReplyDeleteStilt! I just got to Page 92 of Johnny Optimism. Remind me not to read your books during breakfast😆
ReplyDeleteRod, we should have seen this coming. The left has managed to conflate juvenile-minded-yet-felony-level vandalism with political righteousness. It used to be if you went out and caused thousands of dollars worth of damage, you were either mentally ill or a criminal and locked up. Today, you're just a "protester" that needs to be heard and understood.
ReplyDeleteAs long as your supposed cause conforms to the Progressive narrative, anyway. If you were to tear down a statue of Margret Sanger, for example, you'd still be a criminal, and likely tried with hate crime charges piled on, even though Margaret Sanger was undeniably a genuine white supremacist. See how it works?
What I think is one of the causes of today's "unrest": Too many people with too much free time. The fact is that it's too easy to survive in America without having to work very hard to exist. I would love to see some genuine social science on the socioeconomic profile of your typical "protester". My guess is that many if not most are middle-to-upper-middle class who don't have to work full-time jobs to feed and house themselves. This gives them the idle time and resources to cause mischief.
In what I call the Star Trek Universe, Progressives fantasize that once people are liberated from the need to work full-time for the lower levels of the Maslow Curve, they will have the free time and resources to turn to more intellectual and noble pursuits, like science and the arts.
I argue that due to the unprecedented affluence and generosity of the welfare state, we've already provided the opportunity for the Star Trek Universe to exist. But it didn't happen. Instead of using their free time and resources for real intellectual and noble pursuits, these people have instead complain that they don't have enough and turn to vandalism against both property and society itself.
Throw into the mix a Progressive educational establishment that has "educated" (cheated) these people into thinking that their childish, emotional fearalism itself is a intellectual and noble pursuit.
Which brings me to my next point: If you think things are bad now, just imagine what they'll be like with Universal Basic Income, which is intended to liberate even more people from the toils of labor, who, of course, will immediately take to the streets demanding that their "basic income" isn't enough.
@ John the Econ: Yours are interesting and I think valid comments. They're good for further thought. Thank you for this memo. - Rod
ReplyDeleteJohn the Econ,
ReplyDeleteYou pay for what you get. We (the taxpayer) are forced to pay for idleness, and we GET more idleness. We pay for fatherless children, we get more of 'em. You get the idea.
Add Marxism into the mix, and you get.......... 2020.
Actually, a "fish tank in the door" is a pretty good idea.
ReplyDeleteGood conversation piece,
plus the little guys get some fresh air
Hey Kids!
ReplyDeleteWanna live on government land for free??
Want 3 square meals a day for free??
A bed to sleep in for free??
Recreation at least once a day/week/month for free??
Plenty of like minded people around who share your beliefs??
24-hour/7-day a week/365-day-a-year security for free??
College education for free??
Have we got a prison for you!
@Readers- I'm glad to see robust conversations going on here! I haven't been able to participate because what was supposed to be a lovely week off to catch up on things has turned into exactly the opposite. Mrs J sustained a back injury (hopefully not serious, but pretty uncomfortable for now) which gives me a fresh appreciation of how much she does around here (since now I have to do it). And because she needs ice for her back, it makes perfect sense that our venerable old refrigerator would give up the ghost - putting me in a scramble to find a replacement before everything starts to spoil. And at this very moment, I'm just taking a short break from emptying out the old refrigerator.
ReplyDeleteSoon, I can greet plague-carriers and welcome them into my home, after which everything needs to go back into the NEW refrigerator.
Anyway, I hope to comment on some of the points you've raised, but if I don't it's not because I don't care - it's because I'm freaking frazzled!
@Stilton: Quite alright. Hang in there! Having had a badly sprained shoulder for going on three weeks now, I literally can feel Mrs. J's pain...
ReplyDeleteA link to inspire us all.
While one boy like this lives, there is always hope.
God bless you, lad.
