Greetings, all! Time moves in odd ways for me these days and I apologize for going so long between posts. Much of that is due to the fact that I haven't been doing anything exciting enough to write about, and the news is so aggravatingly stupid that I can't bear to watch much of it. But still, enough trickles in for me to at least have a little headline fun.
So why did I title this post "Hail and Salutations?" Because on Friday we had some pretty impressive Texas hail around here...
That's not my hand, by the way. Rather, that's a picture shot by someone who lives maybe 10 minutes from my house. Windshields were shattered, cars were dented, roofs ruined, and anyone who let a smile be their umbrella was probably killed outright. Seriously, you do NOT want to be outdoors when this stuff hits.
My house was hit by the hail but less impressively. Still, my lawn looked like a tossed salad afterward because of all of the shredded leaves ripped from the trees. Here's some video (again, not mine) of the fun...
Wow!
ReplyDeleteThe Biden debt ceiling one really cracked me up, and then I though - maybe its true.
ReplyDeleteTime for your nap grandpa.
You can't have it all for yourself,we had bad hail(not as big as yours, but you are in Texas)twice in 30 minutes in country New South Wales,Australia. Not anything new but unusual.
ReplyDeleteI hope that the hail damage was only to trees and not to your home or vehicle. Insurance companies are hard to deal with when it comes to pay outs, but are glad to see your payment arriving in time. Funny how that works.
ReplyDeletejrg
Stilton....agree with you : Much of the “news” is just too depressing and enraging to watch. I subscribe to The Epoch Times....hope you and more conservatives do also.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day and keep on keepin on !!!!!!

Hi Stilt,
ReplyDeleteOne of the main reasons I live in Phoenix is that the only natural disasters we get come every June 1st and last 3 months. I have a pool for survival.
Glad your place wasnt reduced to rubble. Large balls of ice falling from thousands of feet in the air do amazimg destructive damage...but provide unique opportunities in the used car market!
Mike
Had a hailstorm like that (walnut-sized) in the Phoenix area in October 2010. It was spotty throughout the metro area, but everyone on my street got a new roof from his insurance company.
ReplyDeleteO farking wow!
ReplyDeleteStilt,
ReplyDeleteThat brings back painful memories of when I got stuck in a hailstorm, here in Colorado Springs, riding my motorcycle home from work one afternoon. Didn't wear my helmet that day, and no bridges or trees o hide under, I was pelted with hailstones about the size of quarters. It hurt so much I was actually crying and when I got home I was bleeding from 3 places on my forehead. Felt like someone was pouring gravel out of an airplane!
HI Stilton!
ReplyDeleteGot a new place back over in KANSAS! YEAH!
Hope you're doing well!
My Dad was an insurance adjuster for Kansas when I was a tiny girl and etc - HAIL always took him out of Wichita to other towns for HAIL DAMAGE - I learned all kinds of things about various kinds of destruction back then. Tornadoes were still my biggest fear although that hail absolutely could kill ya if it hit ya.
Blessings to you!
Love always,
Kathe Houston
WOAH! Hope your roof and car are OK. Glad you weren't out in it.

(tell 'em Groucho sent you!)
Wow! Those are some impressive hailstones! And your headlines were spot on!
ReplyDeleteOn a more personal note and aligned with the “it gets better” theme for the club you and I have found ourselves thrust into: we just returned from our honeymoon - even after losing the love of my life, I’ve found a new, different love (a widow as well), and we have embarked on a journey through the rest of our lives.
Life after such a loss does eventually improve.
“There are all kinds of love in this world, but never the same love twice.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald
Very impressive hailstones Stilton. We get a lot of hail along the front range in Colorado. That, along with wildfire danger, make for hard to find and very expensive homeowners insurance. On top of that, we just got our new valuation of the casa for tax purposes....an increase of 55% over last year. God, how I hate what has happened to my native state!
ReplyDeleteFantastic headlines by the way!
Will somebody tell that band to knock it off with those repeated renderings of "Hail to the Chief"?!
ReplyDelete(Was that a weather comment, or an attempted political dig? Take your pick.)
ReplyDelete@TrickyRicky, that new valuation is the Demo_Rats' latest attack on We, the people of Colorado in yet another attempt to kill TABOR. Even Republicans fought against TABOR in '92 but We, the people forced it on them and the state legislature has been trying to kill it ever since. Now the Demo_Rats are trying to make TABOR painful for homeowners so we'll want it gone. How I LOATHE the Demo_Rats!!
Back in '87 I visited Cheyenne, WY some time after a major hailstorm. I walked through town and every car dealer was having a hail sale on cars that all looked like golf balls. I have wondered ever since how many cars were sold.
I was sitting in my living room when the first chunk hit the skylight in my kitchen. It sounded like a gunshot. I jumped up from my chair to see what it was when the deluge came. It sounded like a rifle range. It was the fiercest hail I've ever seen. My garden took a pummeling but thankfully no glass breakage or roof issues. Mine was about quarter size. You're right about the leaves though. I watched them flying off the tree in my front yard. It did take my mind off of the sorry state of our country, but not for long.
ReplyDeleteWe were on the golf course and a golfer in front of us was using golf balls as big as hailstones. Thank you, thank you. I'll let myself out now.......
ReplyDeleteThat picture shows hail that almost qualifies as gorilla hail.
ReplyDeleteThe Durham report was a bust. Confirmation of crimes committed by an ex-president, Hillary and some 20 others with a recommendation of no prosecutions. I suspect Mr. Durham is either afraid of being suicided or has his own ghosts in the closet. It's almost as if there are no honest people in politics.
I believe that RFK is 100% correct. It was only a week after JFK said that he had discovered internal power groups colluding in our government that he was assassinated.
DeNiro might want to have a paternity test run - unless he thinks that this somehow makes him macho. It doesn't. He's still the same sniveling Hollywood liberal that he's always been.
Patrick - congratulations! May your road ahead be filled with happiness.
Kathe Houston - best of luck back in Kansas. I left Dodge City in 1960, when I was twelve and, other than driving through, I've never been back.
As for the Florida travel ban - I've spent quite a bit of time in Florida and I live in Southern Louisiana. In neither of those places have I seen anywhere near the prejudice, discrimination and racial discord that I've witnessed in places such as NY and Massachusetts. I am old enough to remember when the NAACP was a legitimate organization that had a valid purpose. What a shame that its mission has been so perverted over the years.
Stilt, I love the way you keep on truckin'. You have several of us in your convoy who might otherwise have parked and walked away. Keep on keepin' on. We'll follow.
I hope all y'all have a great week. My prayers for everyone.
Paul D.
Admittedly, I am a Luddite of epic proportions - I'm usually the guy IT tech support has to remind to check and make sure "your computer is plugged in". BUT, I thought I reached a point in my understanding of 'computerese' to be able to recognize an attachment (in this case, a video) that needs to be 'clicked-on' (see, I'm quite computer literate!) if I want to view. I LOOKED EVERYWHERE AT LEAST TWICE (Here's some video (again, not mine) of the fun...) and could not find the hidden video. Is this a further indication of my lack of understanding, or did a left-winger delete said video to mess with me alone?
ReplyDeleteJoe @ nomojoxrx@outlook.com
@JustaJeepGuy- Yep, Polis and his goons up to their usual commie crap.
ReplyDelete@lojinedh- The REALLY scary stuff is the cannonball-sized hail that punches right through your roof. Fortunately, I've never experienced it personally at my home!
ReplyDelete@Brie Camembert- I find it very easy to believe that Biden no longer knows (if he ever did) what the "debt ceiling" actually is.
@Bones- I'm well aware that Australia is fully capable of producing Texas-sized weather phenomena. I've seen some impressive storms on Youtube!
@jrg- I don't think my home sustained damage, although I'm sure there are roofing companies who would tell me otherwise. I'd have to see some big-time damage before I'd be willing to dance with the insurance companies.
@Wayne in Indiana- I'll take a look at Epoch Times. Currently, my general take on the news is "a pox on all their houses."
@Mike- "Hail damage" sales in my neck of Texas are a pretty common thing when a large outdoor lot gets pounded. No one owning an "auto body and dent" shop in Texas will ever go hungry.
@Elbarto- When we moved into our neighborhood, all of the houses had wood shingle roofs which occasionally caused fires that jumped from residence to residence. Not liking the fire risk, I eventually paid north of $10k to replace the roof. Within months, a major hail storm hit and everyone else on the blog got their roof for free. No good deed goes unpunished (wry grin).
@Duke of URL VFH#391- It can feel like an artillery attack!
@Bruce Bleu- Ouch! I recently saw video of a guy caught in a gorilla hail storm while on a lake in a kayak. Poor sonofagun got the crap knocked out of him.
@Kathe Houston- Yay! So glad to hear that you've got a new place! And tornadoes will always outweigh hail on my fear scale. To check for hail damage, you show the insurance adjuster your shingles. To check for tornado damage, you show the insurance adjuster where your house used to be.
@Lee The Voice- I suffered no harm. We just got a mild dusting at my place, while just to the north of us it was crazy.
@M. Mitchell Marmel- Inspired lunacy!
@Patrick- Congratulations, my friend! You've put quite the smile on my face and I wish you and your wife every happiness in this new adventure!
@TrickyRicky- My property valuation keeps going up (though not like yours!) but fortunately, my actual property tax is now a fixed amount since I'm a codger.
@Maoz- Now that you mention it, "Hail to the Chief" might explain Biden's apparent brain damage...
@JustaJeepGuy- And I wonder how many people bought cars and then waited for the next hailstorm to report the old damage to their insurance companies?
ReplyDelete@Shelly- Annoyingly, when the actual hail hit here I was watching a "guided meditation for relaxation" in my VR goggles and missed the whole thing! I only figured it out later when I let Ladybug out to go to the bathroom and noticed the heaping helpings of "oak slaw" in my yard.
@Fred Ciampi- Frankly, it took some pretty big hailstones for you to make that joke (grin).
@Paul Donohue- Greetings, sir! I agree that the Durham report was a bust in the sense that it won't even make a blip on the radar. I have had to let ago of my naive notion that wrongdoers will eventually pay a price.
I always considered it a possibility that JFK was knocked off by the CIA, but now I don't even consider it a possibility that he wasn't. And I think back to the day it happened and I was in elementary school; the shocking announcement from the school's PA system and all of us kids sent home early. I remember the awful emptiness and confusion I felt...and now I feel like I've been living in a lie ever since.
Like you, I remember when the NAACP and even ACLU were virtuous organizations. No more.
And I'll try to post more often because there's nothing keeping me from doing it outside of a somewhat fuzzy brain. I was shocked that it had been two weeks since a post!
Thanks for the prayers and please know that others are headed straight back to you and yours!
@Joe- Theoretically, there should just be a nice Youtube video sitting there on my page. It's there when I look at it and hopefully others are seeing it too. Are you possibly using a mobile device to view the site? Other than that, all I can suggest is to clear your browser's cache and reload the site. Failing that, just imagine video of big ice chunks pounding a suburban neighborhood!
@TrickyRicky- I don't even know Polis but I will hate him as a show of support!
ReplyDelete@Stilt, I have a hard time believing the CIA killed JFK for the simple reason that if they wanted him out, they could have just put out the word on his philandering. The news people (even the ones who worshipped JFK) would have been unable to hide it and JFK would have been persona non grata with the citizenry and the CIA would have been in the clear. Why do something messy like assassination if there are easier ways? JFK wasn't that well-liked anyway, even though revisionist history tries to make it seem that way.
"Jared Polis" (not his real name, BTW) is a flaming trouser pilot and a likely communist. He was "elected" by the cities of Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins. If we had a state-level electoral college, he wouldn't have been installed as governor. If every state had state-level electoral college elections for governor, we would be much better off!
JJG,
ReplyDeleteI looked it up and Jared Schutz hid his real original name because of an allegation of physical wrongdoing by him to another woman, (he IS a chick, after all, because he does have a "husband", and is the recipient of "penii" as would any other female). He supposedly added the "Polis" as a tribute to his sexual equal "birthing person" matriarch "Susan" Polis. Because of his sexual proclivities he may want to invest in some "truth in advertising" by changing his name again to be Jared Polesitter, or Polesucker, or Peckermagnet, Johnsonlover, or Schutzschlongschlurper, or Bolognablower, or Buttpilot.
@Bruce: How about "Mister Richard Smoker"?
