Unfettered

I take no pleasure in making brain damage jokes, at least when it's an actual medical condition and not just a political philosophy. But I also take no pleasure in trying to pretend there's not something significantly wrong with Charles Schumer completely abandoning the Senate dress code just so John Fetterman's keepers will find it easy to change him when he has little "accidents" below the Beltway (so to speak).

I've not heard any speculation (which is weird in itself), but can there be any reason other than absolute necessity that Fetterman wears flopsy fastener-free clothing that only takes toddler-level skills to put on and take off? And if this is indeed the case, isn't the brain-damaged elephant in the room the likelihood that Fetterman is too impaired to serve?

Then again, considering the mental states of our president and vice-president, maybe I'm just setting the bar too high.

HALF THE MAN HE USED TO BE

Speaking of guys who don't wear traditional pants, this gentleman appears annually at the State Fair of Texas to tell people about the many fun attractions and activities while barely containing his bitterness about all the carnival rides with signs that say "you must be this tall to ride."

Okay, I'm lying about that because, appearances notwithstanding, this is an ordinary man of ordinary height and the usual number of appendages. Unlike bandleader and movie star Johnny Eck, who was the real deal (yes, I'm a fan). What we're seeing here is a classic sideshow illusion of a type that I've always wanted to build for use at Halloween (genuinely), which means if I'm going to do it I should get started soon.

Then again, if the project runs long I guess I could still sit in my front yard dressed as a half-Santa Claus. It would be worth it just to see the look on children's faces when I'd say "Chimney accident."

  1. The fellow from the Texas State Fair should be holding a sign: Must be this tall to go on this ride...X2!

  2. Festerman is just one example of why I left Pennsylvania 20 years ago this month for the Ozarks. Haven't regretted it since! :D

  3. Just another slip down the slippery slope towards the abyss. Wonder if the Roman Senate had Senators who refused to wear togas? One would hope the voters of Pennsylvania would, when this farce next stands for election (assuming he chooses to run) , send him packing, but with Pennsylvania, like other states, having small pockets of blue dictating electoral outcomes...

  4. Fetterman is the product of the Democratic machine. He was elected solely because of his having been elected previously into state office in Pennsylvania. They, the democrats, know he is severely compromised mentally but that really does not matter. The only thing that matters to them is that he, Fetterman, be present in the Senate when he is supposed to vote. Additionally, I am quite sure Fetterman's handlers make sure he votes 'correctly' as the party line wishes.

I would bet that the clothing thing is as much a problem of Fetterman refusing to wear a suit and tie. Mentally refusing to the point of a tantrum. Brain injuries alter reasoning and decision making and while you can wonder if there is a health based reason I am pretty sure it is a case of either let Fetterman wear ghetto clothes or he won't show up to the Senate to vote.

This is all just a part of the illusion that the democrats are putting on to hide their desperate efforts to destroy this nation and its founding in order to install a totalitarian socialist government where they control everything. This is the problem of not having term limits. You leave a politician in office long enough and they want to run things forever. It is basic human greed run amok.

  6. While Festerman is an embarrassment to humanity in general and Pennsylvanians in particular, and while he should be removed from everything that has to do with governing any segment of this nation, I cannot help but think those partisan fools in the Keystone State voted him into office. That they continue to do so tells me that he's not enough of an embarrassment for the voters to see the error of their ways. Was there some sort of chicanery in the last voting that has him still in office? Who knows? But the people put him into office, hoodie, shorts and all, and it will be up to the people to kick his sorry ass out.

  8. My question is why did it take so long to abandon the senate dress code. They have abandoned every other code of decency a long time ago.

Just wait until we have to see feinstein, pelosi, and waters doing the Monkees walk down the halls of congress. . .in the nude.

  9. Susan Collins commented about maybe wearing a bikini to work. As scary as that is, it was a good point. DougM over at Sondraksgulch suggested Repubs start dressing like Festerman. Yes!!

    @Andrew,
    Verrrry interesting!

    @Cowboy,
Gaaaa!!! I need brain bleach now.

  10. Remember when Reagan would never enter the Oval Office without a suit and tie out of respect of the office and the position of President? Good times. Fetterman, on the other hand, respects the public even less than he respects himself. And he has no reason to respect himself, having never felt the compulsion to have a real job instead of living off his family, and finally the taxpayers.

What I can't wait for is when the GOP re-takes the Senate (I know, I can still dream) and reverses this rule, whereas the Democrats will immediately scream "Discrimination!" and make some Constitutional case for having to accommodate brain damaged Senators who can't be bothered to be dressed for work.

But always looking for the upside, perhaps Busty Ross could run for Senate and wear her traditional fashion to work.

Of course Fetterman is too impaired to serve. But then again, so is Feinstein, McConnel, or Biden & Harris.

And you'd know there'd be "speculation" of these were all Republicans we were talking about.

  11. Sen. Schumer seems to be going a little overboard in his attempt at populism.

  12. As @GlendaTGoode said above, Fetterman is a sure vote and with the majority as slim as it is, Schmucky will do anything and I mean literally anything to keep hold on that power. Should they lose that next year (oh God, please), Puttin' on the Ritz* will be kicked to the curb. I think the reason he doesn't want to wear ties and collars is because of that humongous thing on the back of his neck. To go around his massive neck and that thing would make his tie awfully short.

I've seen that guy at the Fair many times. It's even believable in real life!

  13. @Mike aka Proof- Better still, how about if he holds a sign saying "You will be this tall when exiting the ride."

@M. Mitchell Marmel- I'm glad you escaped. Now let's get you out of the clutches of Covid!

@Fish Out of Water- I'm sure the Roman Senate had those who would violate dress codes and peasants on a regular basis.

@GlendaTGoode- Good comments throughout, and I've read that Fetterman hates wearing suits so he may indeed have some emotional affect disorder related to his stroke that angers or frustrates him when he can't wear his comfy clothes. But no matter how he dresses, the man is a cipher - present only to vote however he's instructed.

@Andrew- Interesting pictures! Although I've looked at the video and his tattoos are still there. And hideous.

@Murphy(AZ)- You're right that Fetterman, damaged and shabby, is still what his constituents are voting for. And that's our system, God help us.

@Phil- Except for the fact that they make his forehead sticky.

@American Cowboy- I think they hung on to the Senate dress code this long because suits have a lot of pockets for holding bribes.

@Colby Muenster- I love DougM's idea (as usual). Let's have a Dress Like Fetterman day!

@John the Econ- Sadly, any "brain damage" screening for elected representatives would be hard to administer because the passing rate would be so low. On the plus side, I like the idea of Senator Busty Ross...

@Lee the Voice- I'm not sure it's populism if you're just accommodating one guy, although I'll admit that the hoodie look IS popular in certain quarters.

@Shelly- The giant lump on Fetterman's neck is no longer there, although pictures from February show a big pouch of empty skin left over from whenever they drained the thing. So he could wear a regular shirt if it wasn't for all those pesky buttons. Maybe he should declare himself Amish?

  14. Ever notice how much Fetterman looks like Anton LaVey?

  15. @Fish Out of Water said

"...Pennsylvania, like other states, having small pockets of blue dictating electoral outcomes..."

We all know there are NO "blue" states, there are only "blue" CITIES. I'll bet that if we actually had secure, trustworthy elections, we'd have no more than half of the Demo_Rats we have in office all over the country.

  16. @JustaJeepGuy: And thus as I have said numerous times, the 'twain shall never meet, so lets rethink our legacy state borders and part amicably while we still can part amicably.

  17. @Stilton,

Being mostly retired, I probably dress worse than Festerman most days. Then again, I'm not a US Senator! Yeah, maybe his brain got rewired with a fear of suits, but he wanted the job, dammit, and he had to have realized that Senators dress conservatively, even the liberal ones.

    @Fish and Jeep Guy,

You guys got me wondering... Is it possible for a state to forcibly remove a city from their boundaries? We could have the state of California AND the state of Left California. I know... only dreaming.

  18. @Colby: The portion of Cali north of Sacramento wants to secede and form a new state called "Jefferson", so... ;-)

Also note that portions of WA want to be part of ID now... :D

  19. Question to Pennsylvanians -
If Fetterman was your doctor, would you trust hime to operate on you?

  20. I wouldn't trust Fibberman to deliver my newspaper.

  21. @Murphy(AZ), since he's never shown any interest at having a real job, I think you're pretty safe from that.

  22. Why is it that so many Demo_Rats who claim to represent "the working man" don't / won't actually work? Bernie Sanders and Fetterman come immediately to mind. Actually, they do represent their true constituencies, people who themselves won't work--the welfare queens and princes. Who cares about the taxpayers, there's votes to be bought--cheaply--among the lazy!

  23. After hearing Bob Menendez's explanation for keeping so much cash and gold around the house, am I the only one who breather a quiet sigh of relief that he's blaming the Castro regime and not Donald Trump? What a refreshing change!

  24. "Chimney accident"? Someone closed the damper at the wrong time?

I'm reading that the Texas windmills aren't doing too much about now. How are you getting along? "Please conserve" requests?

I also note that you have an eclipse coming on Oct 14, right about midday. That's going to make a mess of solar power.

Congress managed to go for over 200 years without a written 'dress code'. What next, raise a hand when you need to leave the room?

  25. Trivia.
In 1975 this democrat warned us that US intelligence agencies, if turned inward,
would be beyond horrific and a real threat to our democracy.
Sen. Frank Church as we learn in 2023 that the FBI is going after the
    2024 Trump for President campaign.

To the tune Working for the FBI

In the dark of the night we will spy on,
    MAGA maggots at their rallies
If people are murdered on my way there
I’ll just say “that I did not see”.

That Trump guy said that he wanted,
    to cut bureaucracies by 40%.

    Ignored the disease
    by the Red Chinese,
and that pipe line that we said we didn’t blow up overseas,

I’m an FBI guy sent by Biden,
To spy on the MAGA MEANIES.

See Red Hat I will snap away
We will plant bugs on them night and day
I will get my pension and pay.
Trump will not take it away.
That’s why the BS we made up every day
