Feel the Burn-out

Uh, Jerry...?
The WHO (World Health Organization, not to be confused with the greatest rock band of all time) has recently updated their handbook, "The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems," as a helpful resource for doctors, health insurers, and hypochondriacs who are sure that they have something, dammit.

The 2019 revision notably includes devastating illnesses like "job burn-out," which is "a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed." Which, in our experience, pretty much describes every job we've ever held. And while the WHO doesn't explicitly say it, we assume that they see the job-creating Donald Trump as the Typhoid Mary of stress-inducing employment.

(Worth noting is the fact that there is still no vaccination for burn-out, although researchers at the Clan MacGregor distillery say "shots can help," which we can personally confirm.)

The WHO also updated their definition of "compulsive sexual disorder," a very serious condition best known for afflicting a former president who shall remain nameless, but whose wife's name is Hillary.

Thanks, Obamacare!
Other interesting changes to The Big Book of Horrible Conditions (which we think would be a much catchier title if they really want this thing to sell) include the WHO's official recognition of video game addiction. Which must be a terrible thing to have - just imagine the amount of work it must take to grind an X-Box console into powder fine enough to snort.

Happily, not all of the handbook's revisions were adding new medical conditions - some old ones have been reconsidered by the great medical minds in Geneva, Switzerland and it turns out that they weren't illnesses at all! As a case in point, transgenderism is no longer described as a "mental disorder," but simply a "natural variation of human experience."

This comes as great news to transgender folks, because many governments previously insisted on a medical "gender disorder" diagnosis before changing people's names and gender markers on official documents. But with the banishment of "gender disorder," anyone is now free to demand legal paperwork substantiating whatever name and gender currently tickles their fancy. (medical note: "fancy" is the official term for transgender genitalia).

The WHO handbook has literally hundreds of other interesting medical updates but unfortunately we're not able to comment on them at present. It's time for us to take our shot (or two) to avoid job burn-out.

  2. Oh, goodie, I can finally apply for disability for the 185 medical conditions that I know I have. I'll be rich!!!

  3. Yeah, whatever, I don't have time to comment, I have to go to work.

  8. One of the commenters at Ace of Spades nailed it: If I play Call of Duty several hours a night, I have a mental disorder; but if I want to cut my dick off and get a pair of bolt-on boobs, that's normal.

  9. If a 5'10" 18 y/o girl weighing 83 pounds stands naked in front of a mirror and says, "I'm too fat" she gets psychiatric care.

If a boy stands naked in front of a mirror and says, "I'm a girl" that's just a "natural variation of human experience", and he gets on the Oprah Show, a magazine cover and story in National Geographic, and an award for 'bravery' from NPR.

  10. Sure you can grind an Xbox into fine snortable powder easily. Just get a Blendtec blender. There is little those bad boys cannot destroy.

  11. I am fully prepared to embrace "job burn-out". I predict that it will afflict me at the point where the same Progressives that gleefully promote this idea tax me to the point where my continued work benefits them more than me. My "burn-out" benefits will give me the free time to work on my next affliction, "video game addiction".

You heard it here first: So now that transgenderism is no longer described as a "mental disorder", expect the >40% suicide rate experienced by these people who are no longer considered mentally ill to be blamed on you for refusing to buy into their insanity.

See? They're perfectly sane. It's your refusal to accept that which drives them to misery and perhaps suicide. YOU are the problem. And the law must be changed to reflect that.

A decade ago I started joking that eventually rebuffing the sexual advances of a gay or transgendered individual would eventually be declared a "hate crime". It's becoming less of a joke every year.

@M. Mitchell Marmel, agreed. It's said that "insanity" is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. Communism, progressivism, and social justice have a 100% failure rate.

  12. Once knew a guy who claimed he had French asthma. Said he could only catch his breath in snatches. I wonder if the WHO would recognize F.A. as a viable addition to their updated list of ailments. Just askin' for a friend......

  13. While I fervently believe that one's gender/sex is immutable, if a person goes through the excruciating process of physically altering his/her body to try to appear to be the other gender/sex, they should be recognized, if only to affirm their sincere belief they have actually changed their gender/sex. Having said this, I do not believe that men can get pregnant and any of the other ridiculous things they try to get us to believe. Unequivocally transgender women (aka men) should not be allowed to compete in women's sports as their real biology favors their innate strength over women. However, I must take issue with the fact that a man or woman can just declare they feel like the other gender at any time and be recognized. That's ridiculous.

  15. If only there was a way to invest in asterisk futures.

Transgender woman who last year competed as a man wins NCAA track championship

At what point do we get to declare victory in this "War on Women" I've been told we are conducting?

  16. Feminists must be so happy, because now any woman can compete in a men's sports event just by claiming that she identifies as a man. There's equality for ya. (I don't play golf, so I never did understand what advantage, if any, a man had over a woman in that sport. I mean, any woman should be able to whack a little ball like that far enough, right? Isn't the key to the sport in the fine motor control anyway?)

Regarding medical issues, while the WHO may have downgrade trannyism to "normal", I would not be at all surprised to learn that they have declared things like holding conservative views are now mental illnesses. We're talking about prog trogs, after all.

"Stop the World, I want to get off!!"

  18. @M. Mitchell Marmel- You make a good point. These "belief systems" aren't rooted in science, history, or reality. That sounds like a mental illness to me.

@Big Dick McGraw- I like your enthusiasm!

@Fred Ciampi- If you have "compulsive benefit application" syndrome, you've hit the jackpot!

@TrickyRicky- See, it's people like you who make the burn-outs feel bad. You should be ashamed.

@Geoff King- I'm with you, brother. "Who's Next" still gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it.

@Bobo- Slugs, Slackers and Snowflakes all qualify, but I can concede that there are toxic workplaces where it really is impossible to work. But rather than call this an illness or disorder, I'd just tell the victims that "you're in the wrong damn job. Leave." And not without sympathy - I know good people who got burned out in hellish jobs.

@AmyH- I don't think that transgenderism has had nearly enough study for anyone to determine whether it's a different flavor of "normal," or is an actual mental disorder of some kind (which many studies suggest). Should we accept without question the distorted body self-images of anorexics and bulemics...or should we try to help them?

@Fritzchen- Frankly, the "Junior Woodchucks Guidebook" is probably a better life resource than most books! I agree that I'm unimpressed on the WHO's reclassification of medical conditions to suit the current political zeitgeist.

@Woodsterman (Odie)- I agree with you down to the soles of my shoes.

    @Anonymous- I can't improve on that!

@Boligat- I made that point a few lines above, but you made the point better than I did. I'm not looking to persecute or judge transgender people, but a lot of them end up being miserable (or committing suicide) after the transition surgery because their problem isn't what they thought it was. I care about this because I'd like those people helped rather than simply enabled.

@miniskunk- That would be the machine to do it, alright. I love those Blendtec "will it blend?" videos. (Spoiler alert: pretty much everything blends)

  19. @John the Econ- I've had "job burn-out" plenty of times. That's when I know it's time to change my attitude, change my job, or just suck it up. These are apparently not the first options considered anymore.

And you're not far off guessing that it will soon be a "hate crime" to not return the sexual attentions of a transgender individual. I've already seen campaigns declaring that it's hate, bias, bigotry, and stereotyping that keeps anyone from being attracted to an androgynous person (of any shape and size) who is pierced and has neon-colored hair (in the darnedest places).

@Regnad Kcin- That's a sad case. Did he get any benefit from using an inhale her?

@Shelly- I agree. If someone has gone to all the trouble of surgery, hormones, and getting a new name, then I think simple good manners dictate that you identify them in their preferred way. But what stuck me wacky about the WHO definition is that the same recognition (including legal documentation) should be based solely on what the individual declares him/herself to be without the necessity of any actual medical treatment to aid in transition.

@james daily- I have real sympathy for the biological females being elbowed aside by biological males in sports competitions. But I like the fact that liberals now need to figure out how to handle this Frankenstein monster they've created. Are women's sports doomed because there's no such thing as an actual "woman" anymore?

@John the Econ- I think that battle was won (or lost, depending on your viewpoint) when Caitlyn Jenner was named "Woman of the Year."

@Kurt- Biological women shouldn't just be able to compete as men, they should be given "affirmative action" to make sure they get a place on the team. Because that will be delightful to watch.

Regarding the medical issues, I have no doubt whatsoever that libs want to declare we conservative types to be mentally ill and in need of (ahem) therapy. Behind locked doors. I think it's been called "re-education" in other fascist states.

@igor- That's pretty much how I feel every darn day.

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Kurt, they've been working on that for quite some time now. In "Correlation not Causation: The Relationship between Personality Traits and Political Ideologies" it's argued that:

The results suggest that personality traits do not cause people to develop political attitudes; rather, the correlation between the two is a function of an innate common underlying genetic factor.

In other words, "conservatives" can be associated with "psychotics".

Unfortunately for the researchers of this particular paper, it turns out that they inverted their results, and it was in fact leftists who are the psychotics:

The authors regret that there is an error in the published version of “Correlation not Causation: The Relationship between Personality Traits and Political Ideologies” American Journal of Political Science 56 (1), 34–51. The interpretation of the coding of the political attitude items in the descriptive and preliminary analyses portion of the manuscript was exactly reversed.

Oh well. Don't worry. They'll continue trying. They're well funded, after all.

  21. @Stilton, I do not know anyone (who works anyway) who has not suffered "job burn-out" at least once in their lives. I remember my father experiencing it. I have at points. Mrs. Econ did, so much so that she left her industry to do something completely different. You are right on when you say that when faced with this, one must change attitude, change job, or just suck it up. That's what adults do. Unfortunately, we're no longer living in a world where being an adult is assumed for adults.

Also, what most people in America take for granted and/or just don't get is just how blessed most people are living in a country with such a diverse economy that offers people so many options. For most of history and still in many places of the world, "suck it up" is the only option available.

Heterosexuality as a "Hate Crime": I'm recalling a documentary (I think from the BBC) I saw a few years ago that followed the trials of a late-teen boy who was "transitioning". In one scene, s/he's dressed in a bikini and is going to the beach to meet guys. (And s/he really does look like an attractive young girl) When the guys s/he meets find out that s/he's really a guy down there, they aren't interested. Of course, this is a disappointment to s/he, and since the show is about s/he, we're supposed to be disappointed for s/he too. How is s/he supposed to find love if the heterosexual males that s/he is attracted to universally reject s/he? It's implied that the guys who reject s/he are bigoted and/or closed-minded, and therefore are ultimately responsible for s/he not being able to find love.

"What the hell!", I'm thinking. These perfectly normal guys aren't interested in dating someone who has a penis, and they're the bad guys here? So is not being gay a crime now?

I have no doubt that there are probably biological males out there who would be sexually attracted to s/he, and thanks to the Internet and its ability to connect people with disparate tastes with each other, s/he should be able to connect with them. But I don't think that's the point. My guess is that biological males who would be sexually attracted to s/he probably aren't "normal" heterosexual males in orientation, thoughts, words, or deeds. They're likely gay or identify as one of the other newly recognized genders, and that's not what s/he wants. S/he wants a "normal" heterosexual male just like a normal heterosexual woman would want. The problem is that does not exist. By definition, "normal" heterosexual males are never going to want s/he. And because of that, s/he is going to be permanently disappointed. S/he's transition cannot change the biological realities of others. S/he wants a unicorn.

And that's not "fair". So expect Progressives to try to change that. In the end, nobody will be happy, which is the one thing that socialism excels at delivering.

  22. Job burnout.... something few millenials will ever experience. I guess it makes sense that there is more job burnout today because those of us who actually work are now carrying the weight of millions of pajama boys.

The WHO.... I wonder if their list of ailments includes the thousands (millions?) of little girls in parts of Africa and the Middle East with mutilated genitals. Or does it include pregnancy and the tons of unwanted "tissue" surgically removed by the likes of Unplanned Unparenthood? Do they have a disease called "Triggerosis" for when a young person (gasp!) SEES a MAGA hat?

  23. @John the Econ: The BBC documentary you describe reminds me of a case that happened in a community that I once lived in circa 2003. A young Hispanic cross-dressing man (we would call transgender today) presenting himself as "Gwen" took a night on the town and wound up going for a ride with a group of young Hispanic heterosexual men. One of the men took a fancy to Gwen. But when they found out that Gwen was really a guy, they killed him. I moved away from the community before the trial, so I don't know the outcome or details of the trial. In particular, I don't know whether the killing was a heat-of-the-moment sort of thing, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were. That is to say, while the killing was not justified, I can understand why the killing might have taken place. The Hispanic subculture has the notion of machismo, and I can easily imagine that the man who took a fancy to Gwen might have felt great humiliation and might have expected endless ridicule for having been taking in by a cross-dresser, and hence would have been enraged, leading to the attack. It does not excuse the killing, but it is readily understandable.
