Yes, the "coffee couple" we've been meeting with for ten years are back at work for your entertainment, albeit with a somewhat modified wardrobe. How any coffee actually makes it to their lips in those suits isn't quite clear, but there's surely some benefit just from seeing friends and holding a hot cup.
On a barely related note, we created a political cartoon to run today...but then decided against posting it. Frankly, it just feels wrong to engage in partisan politics (even if we're entirely right, and the other side is entirely wrong) during a "we're all in this together" crisis. Hopefully this sentiment will spread, but even if it doesn't, it feels like the right call for now.
Instead, we'll simultaneously keep things light and focus on the matters at hand. Which is pretty much what's going on in the cartoon below...
BY POPULAR REQUEST: SUPPLY AND DEMANDS
Okay, here's the cartoon that I hadn't posted. Discussion to follow:
The genesis of this cartoon is that I'm sick of hearing people on the Left claiming that the emergency funding measures being undertaken are an admission that "socialism is the answer and always has been." Wrong, wrong, wrong. And I thought relating that to something tangible like the availability of masks (and the ability to gear up factories in a hurry) might make my point.
However, Bernie hasn't said anything like the specifics above - I was just using him as a handy (albeit pretty accurate) straw man. Which made me feel like the cartoon was sort of petty; Bernie's campaign isn't going anywhere, and the overall tenor of the cartoon has an "us against them-ism" which I'm not comfortable with right now, even though the Left is definitely not in the mood to treat this as a time for unity.
So your thoughts are welcome - was I right or wrong to have reservations about this one?
Lefty Lucy is not funny Stilt, I can just see some bean brain with that same thought.
ReplyDeleteI see the Coffee Couple has ideas just percolating in their heads!
ReplyDeleteI've also figured out why Lefty Lucy's hair is so frizzy. She uses an entire bottle of shampoo every time she showers.
You see, the label on the bottle says "Lather, Rinse, Repeat"...
(And we do wanna see that political cartoon at a later date!)
Our state is still in the early stages of this spread with reported cases of COVID19 but the data shows an important trend about age. While Deaths are indeed much lower than Cases AND clearly show higher numbers in the elderly.. but simply Cases of Infection are much more evenly distributed across all age groups. It must be the skew about isolation or not. Plus there's the time required to play out entire sickness for the Death vs Recovery data.
ReplyDeleteBest to assume everyone may have the bug unless you know them & their behavior much better. The devil is in the details. I'm thinking end results are going to be worse for low-talkers; maybe the near-sighted. And as much as you'd like to: Don't pet their dog.
I've had it with this bullshit. It is moronic to think of long-term unemployment as an inconvenience. Does anyone else think it's odd that the Dems are silent on Dr. Fauci's recommendations? Shutting the country down and getting millions more on the public teat is exactly what they want. Pelosi, Schumer and their ilk won't starve. Why does Trump still have Fauci as his mouth-piece? He needs to be dumped like a used 2-dollar whore.
ReplyDeleteWe’re going to emerge from this quarantine either great cooks or alcoholics ... I can’t call it in Chez Hobo.
ReplyDelete@JI: Fauci is a liberal holdover, acting like a neutral. Therefore he is a valuable token against the Progs....sort of like holding a cross to fend off Pelosi and Schumer. I'm not agreeing with his position - he has been wrong frequently - but he does have a use.
ReplyDeleteI, too would like to see the political cartoon.
Pelosi has announced yet another "investigation" (spelled I-n-q-u-i-s-i-t-i-o-n) to find sufficient grounds for yet another impeachment. I'm glad she is. By pandering to the progressive base (and nothing is more base than a Progressive) she is alienating the rest of the country. Which is appropriate seeing how she supports aliens.
What I'm waiting for is the first Presidential debate. I doubt that the dhimicrats will allow a second one.
I would only note that it is still snowbird season. And many of them in Florida are from the Big Craphole. Which might have something to do with the count down here...
ReplyDeleteChuck Norris and Mad Dog Mattis were exposed to the virus. They had to put the virus in quarantine for three weeks.
ReplyDeleteOur county had its first victim yesterday. We are nice and remote and have about three years' worth of food and ammo. We ain't leaving the house for anything except an all clear virus wise.
Ms. Coffee could banish that gold-fishy aroma with a good scrubbing of chloroquine phosphate and get immunity from Covid-19 @ the same time! Wait... what? Phosphate isn't the same as sulfate? Then... never mind.
ReplyDeleteThe world could use another Roseanne Roseannadanna in a time of misinformation, disinformation and malinformation like hours, yes?
After this is all over, I'm going to get smashed, and sleep a week....then again, I might start this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteI heard a couple of good CV parodies this weekend. One, She’ll Be Missing You, was about not being able to visit Target during social distancing (apparently the guy's wife is a Target shopaholic, and they've done several parodies about her STD [Shopping At Target]).
ReplyDeleteThe other was a take on the Pina Colada song ("Yes, I've got Corona Virus, and it's become very plain. I should have shut down for Spring Break, not hit Miami again..."). Oh, wait, that one much have offended someone. I can't find it on YT at all this morning!
Finding good parodies on YouTube, Pookie's Toons on The Right Reasons, and here in Stilton's Place, have become my happy places for social distancing from the brutal reality of quasi-fascist America in the time of Coronavirus!
Lefty Lucy was on a road trip from New York to California when she saw a sign on the side of the highway that said "Clean restrooms ahead". By the time she got to California she had cleaned 256 of them.
ReplyDeleteI find it ironic that you feel wrong to engage in partisan politics at this time, but the people who are entirely driven by feelings are feeling free to do so. My social media feed is just filled with TDS detritus. Totally unhinged stuff. Whatever you might have posted would compare as mild.
ReplyDeleteOh, Lucy. Glad you are quarantined.
"during a "we're all in this together" crisis"
ReplyDeleteBullshit.
Go ahead and post your cartoon.
As always, the Industrial Democrat Complex is doing everything they can to be against what's good for America.
Hey -- Give Fauci a break. Look at from his perspective -- When your an epidemiologist, everything looks like a plague.
ReplyDelete(I apologize if I used that here before.)
I'm currently listening to Mark Steyn host the Rush show. I am glad that he has mentioned the Swedish reaction to this health issue. They are basically keeping their society and economy open and functioning. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. I have a feeling that the herd immunity gained will serve them well. It will be interesting to see how their approach plays out.
ReplyDeleteIf Lucy were real, I would call her a monument to our public education stupidication. She is somewhere between moronic and just clueless. However, I cannot work up the same feelings for her that I do for the nanzi and shoomer shit show. The commie left will not stop until our nation is in ruins and the rubble is on fire. This is serious and we need to stop pretending that it doesn't have everlasting ramifications. There will be a time for action and it is moving closer every day.
ReplyDeleteTo report on local news, ground chuck which was $4 a pound 30 days ago is now about $6. We still have all the grass fed beef we want, but you have to buy a quarter or half to get the price down. Gas is now about $1.42 per gallon for the stuff with 10% alky. A free suggestion: when mixing up your powdered milk, put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in with it. It adds just enough butter fat to make it more enjoyable. Until we run out of ice cream.
@TrickyRicky,
ReplyDeleteThe Swedes are either geniuses or completely reckless. Time will tell, but it really is sort of shocking to see them embracing what I'd consider to be a solidly libertarian stance.
Impeachment part deaux... So Nan and her pack of monkeys finally realized they pulled the trigger way too early, so it backfired on them. Now they envision "The Virus" not cooperating, and possible recovery coming before the election. Somehow, I get the feeling her pack of monkeys might not be so eager to jump on the bandwagon this time around, seeing as how THEY are trying to get re-elected too. Nan could be filmed clubbing baby harp seals and still get re-elected, but some of her dimocrat buddies, not so much.
@Readers - I just posted the political cartoon I was reluctant to share, along with some discussion of my alleged thought processes. Your comments on that topic, as well as everything else, will be welcome!
ReplyDeleteExcellent take on the situation Stilt. Dribbling Bernie is well portrayed. Socialism only leads to civil war ... at least in our country where the conservatives own most of the guns and the left don't even know what bathroom to use. OohRah!
ReplyDeleteStilt, a fine look at the left in a 'toon. I don't think we can come up with the vilest of things that they come up with before breakfast. Good job, my friend.
ReplyDeleteStilton, I understand your reluctance to post the Bernie cartoon, but I'm afraid that you have nailed the utter uselessness and vacuousness of the man and his ideas perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThe left continues with TDS full blast every second of the day. Keep letting have both barrels, Stilton!
ReplyDeleteI just ran across another good ChiComm Croup tracking resource.
ReplyDeletehttps://covidtracking.com/data
It gives some figures for each state. Better, under each state entry is a link to that state's "best data source" that will take you to your own state's most recent numbers. What I found for my state was much more up-to-date than any national source.
@Stilt: Bernie cartoon was fine.
Today's "political" cartoon: I find it rather salient on many points:
ReplyDeleteIf "socialism" was the answer, then we wouldn't even be having this discussion. If this whole Wu-hoo flu fiasco has exposed anything, it's how badly our already lavishly funded state and federal bureaucracies were prepared for this situation.
For example, when the Obama Administration blew through their stockpile of masks in the wake of the H1N1, did they replace them? Nope. That money was better spent on the "fundamental transformation" mission.
I keep asking my Progressive friends why we should expect "socialism" to run any better when they already fail at everything they already are in charge of.
As @Sortahwitte points out above, "If Lucy were real, I would call her a monument to our public education stupidication." They've already rendered "public education" an abject failure. Why would I want them anywhere near health care?
And then there's the promoted angst against the people who are actually doing something. SJWs who have never produced any measurable value to our economy in their lives hate the My Pillow guy, who is actually shifting his factory to making masks. Samaritan's Purse is using their resources building a field hospital in Central Park, and comrade Di Blasio picks a fight because they aren't on-board with the Progressive sex agenda.
Just more examples of how Progressivism is the lazy ideology; a coalition of the of the unwilling and unable imposing themselves upon the willing and able.
Speaking of socialism and redistribution: How about media-darling Cuomo's threats to deploy the National Guard to raid the hospitals in the northern part of his state (You know, where the hicks that didn't vote for him live) that had the forethought to be well stocked on ventilators and masks for the sake of ill-prepared New York City?
So what's the message to Americans who have the foresight and willingness to sacrifice for their own survival? That it doesn't matter. If you have something the socialists don't have but want, they have no problem deploying well-armed people to come and take it away from you.
And finally: Your Bernie is in no way petty. While he hasn't said this (to my knowledge) specifically about masks to date, he's said this many times about pretty much every other aspect of our economy.
Consider this: Companies with the industrial potential to ramp up and build countless masks, ventilators, and other much-in-demand medical items are between a rock and a hard place because of Progressivism. On one hand, they are admonished against "price gouging", which in this case means not charging a penny more for any particular item than they would have before February. On the other hand, they are being expected to spend millions or billions of dollars in suddenly-scarce capital on expanding capacity for what we all know will be but a temporary bump in demand. And then after the crisis has passed, they'll be paying no income tax because they will have made no money doing any of this, and these same Progressives that are demanding that they do something today will use them as whipping boys for corporate greed and will demand that they be punished.
And then people wonder why all our manufacturing left for China.
Here's a couple more interesting sites:
ReplyDeletehttps://covid19.healthdata.org/projections data by state with dropdown at top.
https://healthweather.us/?mode=Atypical gives total "fevers," not CCP Croup. Point is TOTAL fevers and sickness are way down below historic averages, probably due to isolation, etc. Bill Whittle has gone on about this in much detail.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oL1LRu5uk8E&t=1568s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKXrSwoD01Y&t=1753s
And, there's still good news in the world:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOe_y6KKvS3PdIfb9q9pGug/videos
Good God, those drools are far more than fine aerosol spray or droplets; but an accurate depiction; Lock him away and forget him. You're a nice guy Stilt; but those asses are not. Let'em have it with both barrels every chance you get. The more they protest; the more good is being done.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Dr. Fauci is driven solely by statistics, data and models. He has zero interest in the human side effects of shutting down a thriving economy. The data doesn't account for that. The president is the ultimate decision maker and I feel like he has given Dr. Fauci broad leeway but he is pragmatic and if he feels this has gone too far, the hammer will fall. All we can do is trust the president will do the right thing. I shudder to think if Hillary were in the oval office in oh so many ways but this would have been an unmitigated disaster beyond anything we are experiencing now.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@John: Dunno why you deleted that link. It's spot on...
ReplyDelete@Stilton: As is the Bernie cartoon. Heck, you could have started with Bernie in Panel One, Biden in Panel B and Pelousy in Panel III...
I'm getting confused with all this guidance. I'm getting low on whiskey; and if (no, not IF), WHEN I go out to resupply; am I supposed to leave it in the the garage for 14 days?

And that is why I have spent the last few years carefully building a good stockpile of ammunition, and why I keep my "tools" very well cleaned and maintained. That is also why I spend a fair amount of time practicing the use of those "tools" so that should the need arise their use will be as automatic and natural as breathing.
I refuse to go looking for trouble but I will not run away if it is forced upon me.
Just my two cents.
@American Cowboy above: I agree with you. Perhaps great minds think alike on this [grinning]; & I'm similarly prepared; I've also thought through scenarios. EG: I won't kill a stupid kid for trying to steal a TV or an old truck. But I'm ready for worse. I hope THIS situation doesn't go anywhere near that far, but instead it WILL signal the beginning of much more intelligent leadership & governance; which has been ridiculous, misguided or corrupt for decades.
ReplyDeleteI tried to have reservations about the added cartoon, Stilt, but all the local restaurants are closed... [ba-dump-bump]
ReplyDelete...and just after I wrote the above, I came across this:
ReplyDeleteIf you imagine that a local business making surgical face masks is working 24/7, guess again
The common theme is that during an outbreak like this, everybody wants to be his customer. But as soon as an outbreak subsides, his customers dump him and run back to China. The reason? His masks may cost a dime each, but a made-in-China mask might go for two cents.
“Last time he geared up and went three shifts a day working his tail off,” the mayor recalled. “As soon as the issue died, he didn’t have any sales. He had to pay unemployment for all these people, and he had to gear down.”
If we'd like to have adults that don't think optimizing money is everything; then we'd better make start making a change on teaching kids that toys are everything. Add some adults on that, as well.
ReplyDeleteI like the coffee couple. I'm old enough to remember men wearing hats and women dressing like that.
ReplyDelete@Readers- I just couldn't keep up with all your comments, but I certainly enjoyed them!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you say about Bernie today!
