2020 Strikes Back!

stilton’s place, stilton, political, humor, conservative, cartoons, jokes, hope n’ change, carpal tunnel
"Ow!"

Well, I've got to hand it to 2020 (pun to be explained). After spending multiple days working on the lengthy three part review of the past year, the dying-but-still-dangerous year has gifted me with a flare-up of carpal tunnel syndrome which doesn't allow me more than a couple of minutes at a time at the keyboard.

So I'm taking the day off for a bit of reluctant healing, my left hand and wrist tightly bound by a brace which, as nearly as I can tell, was cobbled together from flesh-colored spandex, velcro bondage straps, and a shoe horn suffering from peyronie's disease.

The comments section is open, of course, and I'll be lurking there - albeit not able to write much for a bit. Damn you, 2020!  -Stilton

  1. Your carpal tunnels, my shoulder. Yup, off to a good start. Shoulder is right now covered with Salon Pas (which does help) and I'm eating ibuprofen.

    Happy New Year!

  2. Well Stilt, it could always be worse, like having carpal tunnel syndrome from having a bad golf swing.

Not only do you slice the ball off into the woods, but it hurts like hell while your golf mates are laughing their asses off at your expense.

Of course it's never happened to me. I just heard that it's happened to other (guys who think they are) golfers.

    FORE!!!

    Mr. Jarlesberg,

I freak out when I go through a tunnel, but only when someone else is driving.

Doctor says I have carpool tunnel syndrome.

(Decided to share this one from Friday's strip, as it's too good a gag to leave abandoned there)

  4. Yep, 2020 has been the bitch in the picture frame. I sincerely hope that 2021 is a fart in a whirlwind compared to the one just passed. Best of luck to us all.

  5. Sometimes symptoms like carpal tunnel can be caused by a nerve pinched in your shoulder joint. A massage therapist can improve this.

  6. @Sortawhite. "a fart in a whirlwind". Why is everyone talking about Gropey Joe all of a sudden? :-)
BTW, get well soon, Doc. You've a heavy 4 years ahead!

  7. Whilst you have suffered for your 'art', I hope you realise it is very much appreciated.
Your Year in Rebuke was a masterclass in humourous commentary. Get well soon.

  8. Hope you are mended soon and up and at em again.

Your sense of humor keeps on giving to many of us.

  10. Sorry to hear of your troubles but that sort of thing starts happening once you turn 35 or so. Wait until you hit your 40's, you'll see.

  11. Love the 2020 in review. Sorry to hear about your pain, hope it's better soon.
Somehow all of us being in pain from something seems a appropriate way to start
4 years of hell we have coming under the evil empire.

  12. Stitlt - I feel your pain. Actually, I feel MY pain in My right wrist. You might try Diclofinac Sodium topical gel.(an otc nsaid.) I used to have carpal tunnel. Now it's just a worn out thumb. 2020 was a new knee, this year a new thumb joint. DON'T get old.

  13. @Feargal: Neil Innes put it best, here: "Ladies and gentlemen, I've suffered for my music. Now it's your turn."

  14. Suffering for your art (above) sounds VERY noble. I like that; and yes we're all in on the appreciation. Hoping it gets better soon.

  15. Hmmm, with my amazingly gooder readin' skills
what I readed you said was that 2020 was crawlin' down a carpet tunnel
    to attack us in 2021.
And you bravely throwed your'n arm out ta stop da basterd.
We the people will be forever gatefully happy that youse saved 2021.

  17. Super B complex vitamin every day. I had CTS for over 20 years. Now I can say no problems for past 5 or 6 years, even after 25 mile bike rides. Cheap and effective treatment and it gives your pee a healthy glow! Good luck, have loved all your amazing humor since rope & chains.

  19. “Carpal tunnel syndrome”. Nice try, Stilt. Some of us DO remember when Barry invented the cure for that...pretty sure that’s what his fifth Nobel was for. No, this sounds like another cheap excuse for another illicit rendezvous between you and a liter of Clan.

  20. Sorry about the Carpal Tunnel. I trade you for my Sciatica. MRI on the sched for today. Thanks for the daily looks into the world with a different perspective. Always enjoyable.

  21. Turns out peyronie is a real word. And not related to pierogi. And a good reason to call in sick for no questions asked. DFW.

  22. I think I went through the Carpal Tunnel when I was in the Swiss or Italian Alps ???

  23. Hope you feel better soon, no fun with carpal tunnel

  24. Carpal tunnel problems are tough to deal with. When mine reached the point I couldn't sleep at night, and the doctor told me the some of the nerve damage was probably permanent, I had the surgery. Both hands are now free of the numbing ache that night would bring; and I can hold a drink without concentrating on it to keep it from falling from my hand.

  25. I have a feeling that the lingering after-effects of 2020 will be haunting us for some time to come.

    Please get well soon.

  26. uh... Mr. Stilton, "flesh colored" is no longer a politically correct expression.
(Anyone else old enough to remember that "flesh" was an actual color in a box of Crayola Crayons?)

  27. Heal quickly. Your blog brightens my day. 😍

  28. Never fear, Stilton. Ya know that carpal tunnel is Trump's fault, but Trump will soon be gone, and Joe will fix everything!

BTW - My wrist brace is also "flesh colored" (it's black). Mrs. Muenster buys this stuff called Outback Oil, that looks like roll on deodorant. It's a bit expensive, and will make you smell like a eucalyptus forest, but the damn stuff works great for me.

And for God's sake, please get healed up! I'd hate for you to not be able to hold that glass of MacGregor. Or worse yet, not able to type!

    @Razorback,

None of my business, mind you, but did you perhaps go to school in Chicago? I think I detected a bit of union teacher edge-a-ma-cashun there.

  29. "Growing older is not for sissies." That's all I've got except for: "Don't worry, it gets worse." I'm such an optimist...

  30. Doc, I'll say a prayer for you - just like they did in Kongress:

O, merciful thing that dwells in the place, be kind to our non-gender-specific associate of interweb thought, and bring swift wellness or at least wishful thoughts of such and so to him (OH Shit! I meant to say THEY). Dog forget us all. Aaaaawomen.

And now I must return to my day job of caring for my lawfully wedded person who suffers from womental illness.

Mrs ET reports good results with the Osteoarthritis in her hands using DMSO. She says it's helping her low back as well. It's easy to get at Amazon of course. We got her the roll-on to make it easy for her to apply. Yes, it's legal. ☺

  34. Try switching hands for the mouse. I had the same problem years ago and that helps a lot. Also, there is a stretching regimen for carpal tunnel that works well but I would have to show you since would be very difficult to do on paper.

  35. Why is everyone waiting for 12th Night? I take down any Christmas tree I've erected then, but other than that, have never had January 6th on my calendar...

    [tongue firmly in cheek, folks]

  36. My chiropractor recommended two stretches to be performed often. Hands in prayerful position before you, raise elbows slowly and hold, followed by rolling your fingers into tight fists and a gooseneck bending of the wrist. Stretches the connective tissue, finger flexors and extensors. Helps speed recovery.

  37. @Readers- Many thanks for all of the encouraging words and healthcare tips - all of which I'm taking seriously. Today (Tuesday) is an enormously frustrating time for my hand to be acting up, what with the election in Georgia and, tomorrow, the official counting of the electoral votes. Not that I know what to say for Wednesday's blog since I'd have to foretell the future. Although just assuming the worst has been a pretty accurate predictor recently (wry grin).

  38. @Stilton,
Maybe you should get that gizmo that Stephen Hawking had where you can type with your eyes. Although, Lord only knows what you'd type when Ms. Ross enters the room!

I usually make a concerted effort to be optimistic, but 2020 beat it out of me. The Dims will take the Senate tonight, and we will start our decline into a progressive hellhole of a country starting on the 20th. The only mystery remaining is who will be Kamala's VP pick in February, when the Hunter Biden mess finally gets full "media" coverage.

    Y'all have a nice day!

  39. Get well soon. We need your humor and political comment/satire!

  40. You're carpal thing isn't better YET?

  41. Anon - Is peyronie something to get overwraught over, or just bent out of shape?

ringgo1 - as Dad proved, the only thing worse than growing old is the alternative...

Pat Cummings - we're hoping for an Epiphany

Stilt, suggestion for tomorrow's topic... 100's of thousands descend on the capitol, to remind all the reprehensitives what's at risk - when people like our own Mr Econ decide there's nothing to gain from playing the game, and drop out, going from being a contributor to a drain, and the force of Cloward - Piven start to bite THEM in the butt. Or when others decide they have nothing left to lose, and they'll take some other losers with them. It's been said there are those concerned about anti-fa / BLM type riots if Trump is installed. I think the Biden Inaugural Riots will make those look like a 4th of July BBQ... Just my two cents...

  42. Well I cleaned and oiled my hammer, and stocked up on my nails. (Tip of the hat to another commenter) It looks like the left managed to find enough dead people and illegals to take the lead in the Georgia run-off election there.

It's going to be a long, miserable four years of Slo-joe and the Kamal-hoe. And if this Georgia theft stands there will likely never be another honest election in this new country. . .Amerizuela.

  43. It looks like my news feed was not correct. I certainly hope it was wrong! Both Republicans currently lead by very narrow margins. I hope we do not see a repeat of the presidential election fraud tonight.

  44. @Anonymous way above: Yes I think I remember the flesh-color crayon. I didn't think about it then but after all, IT'S ONLY RIGHT. They have Black, Brown, Red & Yellow. Where the Hell is it now?

    ReplyDelete
  45. @American Cowboy, if the Demo_Rats were able to steal the presidential election so easily, the Senate races in GA had to be mere child's play.
