No fake news here. Or fake anything else. |
Granted, the "biggest news day of the year" doesn't mean quite as much when you're only 6 days into the new year. Still, something interesting surely happened in the Georgia runoff elections (I'm writing this on Tuesday afternoon), and something else interesting will happen Wednesday as the electoral vote process either comes to a close or (as is my hope) blown sky high.
And even if I had a crystal ball, I couldn't talk much about either scenario because my carpal tunnel is still afflicting my left hand and I just can't write much. But I'm sure we'll have plenty to talk about in the comments section! I'll be there - albeit mostly quiet except when I'm crunching ibuprofen tablets.
FROM THE VAULT...
Just to fill a bit of additional space, here's a cartoon dating back to when Democrats hated the electoral college.
Run, forest, run! |
Quit beating your (non-functional) fists against the desk, and go join Busty in the pool, Stilt! You'll soon feel up to commenting again.
ReplyDeleteWait, ignore that about feeling up anything...
"The poplar vote"
ReplyDeleteKnot the kind of humor we expect from you. I'm packing my trunk. Going to leaf now.
Still rooting for you!
@Mike: Ah, quitcher birching, you sonuvabeech! :D
ReplyDeleteI had carpel tunnel real bad when I was still working. Two things that helped me was a brace every night in bed and switched to a ball mouse.
ReplyDeleteOak-y doke.
ReplyDeleteMike, Marmal,
ReplyDeleteI oak you aren't trying to make ashes out of yourselves...
Y'know, Stilt... maybe you should do what I do when composing messages about the left... USE YOUR MIDDLE FINGER!
ReplyDeleteIf that doesn't ameliorate your Tunnel before he becomes a sergeant,(Corporal), then I can't help you.
And the police in DC are alienating the one section of society that still HAD heir backs.
ReplyDeleteAnd another thing Stilt, have you tried audio activated word processing?
@Fred: It's a weird thing about dictation software; I find my speaking voice and typing voice are two entirely different beasts. I've tried dicating fiction and the like, and it just doesn't work well.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I pine for the good old days....like one year ago. It will certainly be interesting to have the "Venezuelan Experience" in the first person.
ReplyDeleteI also have Carpal Tunnel. It goes with being an electrician. I have found two things that help quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteFirst, when the pain is great, hang by your hands from a tree branch or similar for as long as you can. This stretches your wrist muscles and tendons into conformity.
Second, when sleeping always try to lie in bed with your hands bent backwards instead of forwards. If you get in the habit of this it will aleviate the pressure. Since doing this, I have not had a flare up in a couple of years now.
I had the carpal tunnel release procedure done last year and what a relief. The doc used general anesthesia, so they timed how long I was under. 3 minutes! Total time for both hands at once! And I could type immediately. And sleep without pain in my hands waking me up. Go for it Stilt. Life is too short to be uncomfortable when there is such an easy fix.
ReplyDeleteAwwww, Busty. That's what this morning needed.
ReplyDeleteGeorgia: Once again, it's no longer enough to just win by any margin of error. We now must win by margin of lawyer. It does not appear as though the GOP won by that much.
So it appears as though our divided government won't be quite as divided as we'd like. So expect a spending spree on boondoggles like we've never seen before. (If I was sitting on any student loan debt, I wouldn't bother making any further payments) And if the last week was any indication, we're on the cusp of a new level of abject ignorance combined with genuine insanity. So better buckle up. And forget about any economic recovery this year, as the left will do everything in its power to prevent one as they need Americans to suffer in order to justify their plans.
In the movie Idiocracy, it took 500 years to arrive at this moment. The left somehow made it happen in a mere 500 weeks.
But the left is not wholly responsible for the current state of affairs. A GOP dominated by squishies did their fair share.
If the GOP is the least bit interested in learning the lessons of Trump and resurrecting itself, I think a good starting point would be the list that our noble host published last week. Think of it as a Contract with America that stopped Progressive overreach a quarter century ago:
• To keep the Supreme Court a judicial rather than legislative body.
• To keep racists from gaining even more political power.
• To keep our future votes from being disenfranchised by the addition of new Democrat "states."
• To free Black Americans from their liberal prison plantations by increasing their access to education and opportunity.
• To stand in solidarity with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
• To clean up the FBI, the CIA, and the DOJ.
• To keep socialism from devouring our economy and work ethic.
• To have legal citizenship actually mean something.
• To improve everyone's access to quality, affordable healthcare.
• To ensure equal rights to all regardless of race, color, faith, or sexual orientation.
• To fight against "cancel culture."
• To protect our cities from those who would burn them down without fear of legal consequence.
• To resist the control of all information and speech by giant media conglomerates.
• To support police agencies and the communities which they serve.
• To maintain a viable economy during the pandemic rather than embrace systemic failure.
• To allow political dissent and the free exchange of ideas.
• To drain the Washington swamp.
• To keep our military strong.
• To put America first.
"The devil went down to Georgia. He was lookin' for a soul to steal..."
ReplyDeleteRest in Peace Charlie Daniels' America.
If the Republicans completely lose georgia it’s time to BOYCOTT georgia in all matters. Make sure they feel the pains of their decisions as we all will.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless America!
Saw Busty and this old cowboy's eyes opened wide. . .then had to see "the hildebeast".
ReplyDeletePass the eye bleach please.
@Readers- Hello, all! I'm here, reading and enjoying everything. But my hand still isn't in great shape. I'm taking all of the therapy recommendations seriously, and I thank you for them!
ReplyDeleteI'm certainly not happy with the way the news is going, nor with what it means for our country. About which I have much to opine, but it will have to wait until my hand cooperates (or I get the speech-to-text thing working better).
FWEEDOM!
The best to you, Stilt, as you make a recovery from the dreaded lock-wrist. Also to the Ms. as she improves from her bout with infirmities. I, too, use the diclofenac sodium gel on my shoulder with the torn rotator cuff. It seems to be a ibuprofin-type pain reliever. I continue to put off surgery on that cuff. I would hate to die on the table and my death be chalked up as that damned 'rona.
ReplyDeletePence did what I expected. We shall see what happens and if the turmoil spreads.
I confess to be sick to my stomach.
Watching what could be grandiosity described as the storming of the Bastille, musing about whether this is aided and abetted by the left as an excuse to come down hard on conservatives once the worse electoral mistake since the peanut farmer from Plains Ga 's sock puppet takes office?
ReplyDeletePs: Biden calls this an "insurrection"
ReplyDelete@Readers- I, too, feel vaguely sick about what's currently happening in the capitol (3:18 central time), but I also have very mixed feelings. Real investigations of alleged voter fraud could have stopped this. The Supreme Court hearing election-related cases could have stopped this. Honesty from the Left/Press could have stopped this. When people are given no other options, they take to the streets.
ReplyDeleteUntil damage goes over the $100 million mark, and more than a couple of dozen people die, I believe precedent demands that we still call this event"mostly peaceful."
No doubt the MSM has been provided with a feast. The news coverage including the local Fox affiliate (this is from inside the Swamp BTW, has been universally condemning today's events.
ReplyDeleteWhile I concede the democrats after a 4-yaer attempt to overthrow Trump, including this election, there is a closing sentence in a WSJ OpEd worth pondering as well.
"We hope Republicans keep Mr. Trump’s contribution to these defeats in mind over the next two years as their taxes and energy costs rise, as woke cultural mandates rain down from Washington, and as more of the economy comes under political control. By his destructive behavior, especially since his defeat, Mr. Trump has erased much of his own legacy."
@Readers- Way too much chaos for me to really make heads or tails of just now, but there's some photographic evidence out there suggesting that some of the first to breach the building had previously been photographed committing violent acts for (surprise!) Antifa and BLM. Smart play on their part - we have a quarter million peaceful patriots demonstrating, and every news story will focus on the violence without asking who caused it (New Journalism 101 - don't ask questions you don't want the answers to).
ReplyDeleteLost in the din of today's events the 16 year old girl, shot by the Capital Police has reportedly died from her wound.
ReplyDeleteThis maelstrom isn't over yet.
@Fish: Not even the beginning of the end, OR the end of the beginning...
ReplyDeleteThe Tree of Liberty got its first snack today.
There will be more, sad to say.
@ M. Marmel: There is unconfirmed information the rally yesterday may have been egged on by professional rioters/ agent provocateurs and if so the real demonstrators have been played.
ReplyDeletehttps://theferalirishman.blogspot.com/2021/01/more-random-stuff-posted.html
@Fish: Wouldn't surprise me in the least.
ReplyDeleteHowever, those professional rioters and their masters are sort of in the position of the Imperial Japanese in January, 1942. Smug, self assured and totally unaware of the million ton shithammer that's going to descend upon them ere long.
You comment about not being able to talk about the news due to carpal tunnel. It reminds me about the stereotype of Italians, that they use a lot of gestures in their speech. Long ago, one of my work supervisors (who came from Italy) joked that in ancient times, if an evil person wanted another person to keep a secret without killing them, they would cut out their tongue. But if they want to keep an Italian silent, they just cut off his hands!
ReplyDelete@Stilton, it will be interesting to see media profiles of the individuals prominent in yesterday's chaos. If we don't see stories with details about these people, it will suggest that you were right; they were there to make the Trump people look bad in what was otherwise a mostly peaceful protest. And it worked. They've queued up the Democrats for retribution against anything and everything remotely Trump, including the economy itself.
ReplyDeleteNotice the stock market yesterday afternoon and this morning? You'd think chaos like this would be a downer if not decimating. But it's up. Why?
For the same reason it continued to go up during the Obama era and in in the wake of the Wuhan Flu after it's initial drop: Inflation. If you think that the spending and printing of dollars has been out of control during the last year, you've seen nothing yet. No doubt you'll be seeing another $2,000 check to go along with the $600 you are supposed to be getting this week. But that will just be the beginning. Expect most of the $1.7-trillion in outstanding student loans to get wiped as a reward to the underemployed/unemployable but faithful Democrat voters and their allies in academia, which will be permitted to continue business as usual, being subsidized to sell expensive but useless credentials for navel-gazing. Several-trillion more on "green" boondoggles. Scattershot "shovel-ready infrastructure". And of course rewards to all the Progressive special interests that have been largely locked out since the GOP took the house back in 2010.
Regardless of their rhetoric, there's no possible way for the Democrats to raise taxes enough to offset even a small percentage of their spending ambitions. That means printing dollars, Venezuela-style. Like I said, this has been evident in equities for over a decade now. Once the public in general starts getting their hands on this extra cash and starts trying to spend it on consumer goods all at once with no corresponding increase in national productivity, it won't be pretty. Those who live in the hand-to-mouth cash level will get crushed, along with the middle class who are being absorbed by trickle-up-poverty. Which, of course, plays into the Progressives rhetoric.
And like during the Obama era, it will ironically be great for most 1%ers.
Oh, and Twitter, Facebook, & Instagram have banned Trump. But for some strange reason, this tweet remains available:
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/AOC/status/1334182970337464321
(AOC is so ironically impaired that she doesn't realize what an embarrassment this is, or cares)
It doesn't matter exactly who started the melee. Republicans in general, and more specifically, Trump supporters, will take the blame. Four long years (or more) of progressives' non-ending vilification of conservatives, a willing media in lockstep, and now full gubmint control, will make life suck for the middle class for many years to come.
ReplyDeleteCan we all agree that Trump shot himself in the foot repeatedly over the past few months? He tried to motivate supporters using fear, but it just energized the left to up their cheating.
@John the Econ,
I'm no economist, but I think the only explanation of the continuing stock market rise is that the 1 percenters you speak of are not the least bit concerned about the progressive's being in power. That tells me that Biden's threats to tax the shit of or rich people is nothing but smoke. A bull market is fine by me, but I'm not looking forward to the inevitable 20 dollar a gallon gas and paying 50 bucks for a roll of ass wipe.
Fri those who have yet to heard this, Schumer now demands Trump leave the WH immediately. Believe this is just a taster of what can be expected going forward. So much for bringing us together?
ReplyDeleteOh, and Trump's Transportation Secretary and Mitch McConnel's wife has resigned from her post.
Rioters so out of control they stay between the ropes:
