Mrs. Jarlsberg summed things up perfectly when she said that the day after Trump's impeachment felt "9/11-ish." Yes, it did. And does.
Much like the 9/11 attacks, the impeachment of Trump was an attack on all of us by a radicalized group that hates America, hates freedom, hates capitalism, hates respect for human life, hates individual responsibility, and has a fevered desire to bring it all crashing down.
And as much as we dislike agreeing with anything ever said by Barack F. Obama, compared to congressional Democrats, Isis and Al Qaeda really are the "JV teams" in terms of the damage they can afflict on our nation. A seat of power is always going to be more dangerous than a seat in a cockpit.
The articles of impeachment are a complete sham, and represent a historic low of lawlessness and dereliction of duty in American politics. To borrow an apt term from the President of the United States, these people are scum. And every last one of the bastards is blessed to live in a country governed by a man who doesn't use firing squads to sort out insurrection...no matter how richly deserved.
During the impeachment vote, almost every Democrat said words to the effect that Trump was an immediate danger to national security and all we hold dear. That being the case, why is Nancy Pelosi unwilling to let Trump's case go to trial in the Senate? Is he an imminent danger, or isn't he? By her actions, Pelosi is quite clearly saying that he is not. And just as clearly saying that her party has lost none of its historical enthusiasm for lynchings.
LIFE GOES ON...
• The Johnny Optimism book is still flying off the shelves at Amazon (and still free at this link). And as of yesterday was Amazon's #1 bestseller in the Graphic Novel (free) category. Can fame and fortune for Johnny be far behind? Yes, probably - but still, it was a fun milestone.
And we won't beat the subject to death, but we'd greatly appreciate some additional reviews on Amazon. In theory, when a book gets 50 reviews, Amazon gives it substantially more exposure and marketing. Also, with that many good reviews, it really dilutes any one-star reviews from nincompoops.
• Remember our complaint that the IRS was taking forever to resolve a $5000 fine they'd imposed on us for being a few weeks late filing an information form about the contents of our retirement account? Well, today was the magic day that we finally received an official letter stating that our fine of $5,353 (there was accrued interest) had been reduced to $0.
We are grateful that there is still apparently someone with actual logic working within the IRS, and further grateful that this indicates they haven't linked our playful political musings to our social security number yet.

Thank you for the Johnny O and the steam...rising. You have upped the ante on my receiving any gifts this year. I've been pretty good but, I neglected to tell anyone. Sioux and I gave each other one of those long speakers that sets in front of the big tv. You know, the one the cheap bastards that made the tv didn't want to put in it. Merry Christmas to Mr. and Mrs. Stilt and the little cheese. We pray she continues to heal. Love G&Sioux.
Stilt, thanks for your post. It's exactly what I would have said, if I were as articulate as you.
And glad to hear that some sanity finally prevailed [or by now should we say "postvailed"] at the IRS.
May you and yours be blessed now and throughout the year with health, joy, and wealth; and may all your heart's desires be fulfilled. Kol tuv!
I was looking at a picture of Pelosi wearing an orange jacket, and musing that she and her cronies would look good in orange jumpsuits...
Am halfway or so through the Kindle edition of JO, and it is most cheering. Thanks again! :D
“Swindler’s List”! I laughed so hard my Ovaltine shot out of my nose ... ouch! Thanks for another freebie, Stilt, and congratulations on finding the one person with any semblance of sanity at the IRS.
Democrats have painted themselves into a corner. Now that they've voted to impeach the president, the longer they withhold the articles of impeachment from the Senate, the more ridiculous they look.
Holding back the Articles to get a "fair " trial eh? A "fair' trial with a predetermined outcome? Like the Revolutionary Tribunals of the French Revolution's Terror? No? Perhaps like Stalin's Moscow show trials? No? Perhaps then the "fair trial" and "justice" meted out on untold thousands by the Red Guards during the so-called Great Proletarian Revolution?
I am beginning to believe the "progressives" plan all along is to provoke the "deplorables" into an armed uprising against the federal government, which they envision they'd put down easily, and then live in their minds, happily ever after.
Remember who the real enemies of our Republic are.
The shampeachment continues...
From what I have read, it is the Senate's own rules that allow Pelosi to delay impeachment by setting no time limit for the House to send forth a legal team to the Senate hearings. However, the Senate can easily upgrade their own rules to impose a time limit as is done in any other court proceeding, or the Articles of Impeachment can be dismissed.
Here's hoping they do just that to put an end to this travesty and any future attempts to overthrow a sitting President.
This is one of your best summaries on politics. The situation can't be described any better.
As for the time of year & gifts, again many thanks. We're all on a roll for Christmas. One of our sons has arrived from Texas for a brief visit; and we will gift my dear Mother's still very nice car to him. She's an unquestioning Believer who has gone on to Heaven, a gift as-well-deserved as anyone could have. We're all surrounded giving & receiving; and the thought of you being all buddy-buddy with the IRS is another Christmas Miracle.
But wait, there's more! It seems the barbarians at the gates are now beginning shift their attention to VP Pence.....And there are those who still do not see this as a coup d'etat.
Somewhere the most unfit, unqualified and unworthy POTUS candidate since Henry Wallace is evilly cackling. If one could only measure the damage the Clinton have done and continue to wreak on our country....
Why we still send Christmas Cards - and you should too
https://commoncts.blogspot.com/2019/12/why-we-still-send-christmas-cards-and.html
And on a parallel subject; here in Virginia (yes Santa, there is a Virginia) the response to making counties Sanctuary Counties for the Second Amendment has been overwhelming. And the blackface ... oops, I mean governor north ham is beside himself. He wants to use the National Guard to collect guns. Along with a whole bunch of other stuff. We all just can't wait to see how this is going to play out. Oh, the gubboner also threatened to cut off electricity, phone service, internet, and all other forms of communication. If he is able to cut off phone service, what's going to happen the first time an emergency call can't answer and someone dies? The shit WILL hit the fan. 'Nuff said.
Northam is beginning to remind me of Rob Schneider as Marty Pascal in "Down Periscope" screaming "The men LOVE me! They LOVE me!!!" just before he's made to walk the plank... ;-)
"...the greatest danger to America's future came from self-serving opportunism masquerading as patriotism." -Nathaniel Philbrick in his book Valiant Ambition - the story of Benedict Arnold. It's a good read in these times of repetitious history and Congressional hijinks.
We can only hope that the dhemicrats have committed the slow suicide that appears to be the result thus far. Their unmeasureable hubris has pissed off millions of otherwise independents who were enjoying the benefits of the roaring economy while waiting on the election. Like the Grinches that they are, the Pelosi/Schumer gang has attempted to rob the nation of the instigator of our economic success. But their overreach and obvious coup conspiracy has backfired. "Use enough dynamite, Nancy?"
Congratulations on the IRS outcome. Now that you have revealed to the world that there might actually be an individual within the IRS with a lick of sense, said person will be hunted down, flogged and sent to a field office in North Dakota. No good deed goes unpunished.
Reading the compilation of Johnny rather than one strip per day reveals a greater awareness of your talent and deep vein of humor. Or perhaps tumor. Please pass the booze while I continue reading. My appreciation of your work makes me question both of us.
Downloaded Manhole Steamrising last year, and have thoroughly enjoyed it ever since. My sincere compliments to the artist.
Hi Stilton, thanks for the great (as usual) commentary today. Truly, if DJT were the dictator the left imagines him to be, the firing squads would be working full time. The fact they are not is due to the genius of the framers. You know, the ones the left hates until they can be employed as a prop for an explicit coup d'etat. Clowns one and all, evil clowns, yet clowns nonetheless.
I have 3 printed editions of Johnny's book en route as of this morning, will be sure to write a glowing review, and will find time to download the Steam....if anyone has read Doctor Sleep, you know what I'm talking about.
Cheers
Merry Christmas, Stilton, to you and yours.
I do mightily enjoy your works. You are the gift that gives 3 times a week. And one I share with my friends.
So may blessings shower you and yours like a Kansas Squall line.
Thank you again.
@Fred: It's not a Christmas sentiment but we've recently been to & through Virginia and were not initially aware of how divided & different are the west & east in the state. If their grand leader of the EAST wants to collect guns I'd like to see him PERSONALLY start in the western part of the commonwealth. Those folks are much like our people (excepting a couple of major cites here); and that would probably be the end of your problem, and his. Good Luck and Merry Christmas
Watershed moment. The word "impeachment" just lost all meaning. No longer as the Founding Fathers defined it, now it's a strictly political smear by corrupt cabal of politicians using a kangaroo court using their position within the congress as cover.
Actually, I've paid very little direct attention to the impeachment circus because there was absolutely no surprise to be found in any of it. Democrats made it quite clear 3 years ago (and some even before Trump was surprisingly elected) that they'd make it their mission to impeach Trump. The fact that their current slate of candidates for 2020 are even less appealing to the general electorate than Trump is made impeachment even more urgent. So Wednesday's vote was effectively settled 3 years ago.
Pelosi was forced into the impeachment circus by the party base, but knew that outside that base Americans are generally pleased with the state of the country compared to how it stood in 2016 after a decade of Democrat malaise. The last thing the Democrats want now is a GOP-controlled trial in the Senate where Americans would get to hear the side of the story not heard in the house; Mainly that the crimes allegedly committed by Trump were actually all committed by the Obama Administration.
So how does Nancy put the breaks on that? She'll just hang on to the documents so that the Senate can't officially start a trial. That way she can say he's impeached without having to expose the Democrats to the downside that would be a Senate trial.
But it turns out that may not work:
Trump Isn’t Impeached Until the House Tells the Senate
According to the Constitution, impeachment is a process, not a vote.
Nancy's go-to Constitutional scholar says that until Nancy passes the documentation on the the Senate, he's not impeached.
Oooops.
Not that this will matter to the lo-fos, who were already confused by the fact that Trump was still President on Thursday.
Christmas came early: The IRS found in your favor? It's a Christmas miracle!
And now it's time for my annual listen to Manhole Steamrising.
Sir,
I thank you most sincerely for the work you put in every week here at S's Place... Without you, there would be no mirth to be found, or at least it would be harder to find, in these dark times with which we find ourselves afflicted.
I wish you & your dear family a very Merry Christmas, and look forward to a delightful New Year in which the gloves, surely, must finally come off and certain questions become settled.
Though I wish no person ill, I am adult enough to recognize when it becomes time to get decisive.
God Bless America, and all who would stand alongside Her.
Very Kind Regards,

So Wrinkledy Nan wants a "fair" impeachment trial? Like one that matches the "fairness" they displayed during the hearings, maybe?
As Geoff so eloquently pointed out, the Senate can make the rules whatever they friggin' want. I'd suggest they change the rules and give the House 2 hours notice of the start of the trial to come up with their prosecution team, and hold the trial in a locked room in the basement, not allowing in any press or Democrats beyond the head prosecutor.
Or just make the rule simple. If the articles are not submitted within so many hours after the House vote, they become null and void.
Truth is, I think they suddenly realized that the whole f**king mess was about to blow up in their faces, and have the exact opposite effect of what they've been coveting for three years. Nan herself saw that coming, yet did nothing to stop it, and let it play out.
@Stilton,
Congrats on finally winning against the IRS! May it never rear it's ugly head again in your lifetime.
@John the Econ,
Not that this will matter to the lo-fos, who were already confused by the fact that Trump was still President on Thursday.
I would imagine there is a surprisingly high percentage of the lo-fos who thought just that. They'd probably all write their Congressmen, if they A) knew how to mail an actual letter, and B) knew who their congressmen were.
Great Christmas music and thanks for the book. I will read and review. Merry Christmas to the Stiltons who bring great joy all year long (along with Ms Ross).
Dave
Ok, I added a review. I read the whole thing with Kindle, and enjoyed it. It's a little hard to explain the strip to outsiders without getting the what-kind-of-sicko-are-you stink eye in return. But hey, that which does not kill you makes you stranger.
Five stars.
@Sortahwitte- I think it's funny that TV's have gotten so flat that they can't produce sound that's worth a damn. So we all have to buy soundbars to put in the space we saved by getting a flat screen TV. In any event, I hope you enjoy it!
@Maoz- I'm not sure how articulate I was, but I was absolutely sincere. I have never loathed elected Democrats more.
@M. Mitchell Marmel- I don't know that we'll ever see these scoundrels in prison uniforms, but we can pray.
@Bobo the Hobo- I enjoy trying to come up with an appropriately punny title for my posts, and was pretty happy when I came up with "Swindlers List." I live for tiny amusements (grin).
@jpb252- I agree. The Dems can't scream that Trump's removal is "urgent" and then just say "screw it" and then amble home for Christmas break. Their actions reveal their lies.
@Fish Out of Water- If it will speed things along, Mitchell should guarantee that a Senate trial will be just as "fair" as the impeachment process in the House.
@Anonymous- Catchy!
@Geoff King- I'd love to see the Senate pass a "put up or shut up" rule and institute it immediately.
@Rod- Sounds like you have a fine Christmas ahead of you. As for that IRS "Christmas Miracle," I'm grinning skyward and shouting "Attaboy, Clarence!"
@Fish Out of Water- I, too, saw that Schiff now wants to go after Pence. That googly-eyed dweeb needs to be put under oath, questioned about everything he's been lying about, and then clapped in irons.
@commoncents- Excellent piece. Unfortunately, it's too late for me to send cards this year, but there's still time enough for me to feel guilty about it. Sigh...
@Fred Ciampi- If these guys keep pushing, there's going to be pushback. Which is all I'll say for now.
I was just watching a video of Pelosi. For a moment I thought I was watching a snippet of Aunt Clara (Marion Lorne) on the old Bewitched TV show.
@M. Mitchell Marmel- We actually need to bring back the whole "walking the plank" thing.
@Studebaker Hauk- That sounds right on point for this moment in history.
@Snark- I'm hoping the Dems pay a price for this idiocy, but we'll have to wait and see. And I'm glad you're getting additional insight into Johnny's world by reading multiple strips at once.
@MAJ Arkay- I honestly don't know who the artist is behind the Manhole Steamrising music. It's legally licensed (by me) music to be used for productions and promotions, so it's all legit. It really is pretty and relaxing music that I like a lot.
@TrickyRicky- I keep hearing whackjobs on the Left declaring that Trump is a dictator and "literally Hitler," yet where are the mass graves? Who's being forced into ovens? Who's being repressed? It's all such horsesh*t. And thanks for the Johnny Optimism paperback purchases! The books have been moving pretty briskly, and I'll post an update (and how much will be donated to charity) when the promotion wraps up.
@NaCly Dog- Thanks for the nice thoughts, and Merry Christmas to you and yours!
@Rod- The idea of going door to door to steal people's guns just isn't going to play out well. Nor, in the opinion of the founding fathers, should it.
@KanB- EXACTLY! "Impeachment" doesn't mean a damn thing anymore - the Dems have turned it into a political stunt that lacks gravitas. I laugh when I hear Pelosi and others saying that Trump will have to live with this "stain" on his Presidency forever. I can pretty much assure you that Trump doesn't care.
@John the Econ- A fine analysis of this charade! Like you, I'm not paying super-close attention to the details because it's all such a load of lies, rhetorical spin, and mendacity. Plus, it raises my blood pressure.
@Bailey/Michael Young- Thank you for the very kind words, and let me wish the merriest of Christmases to you and yours!
@Colby Muenster- I'd love to see the Senate implement rules which would bring this whole farce to a screeching halt. Pelosi's demand to be guaranteed a "fair" trial means only a trial that the Dems can control - and to hell with that.
@Dave Mail- Enjoy your gifts, and best wishes for a wonderful and meaningful Christmas!
@Drew458- Many thanks for the review! And yes, it IS hard to explain Johnny Optimism to people. It would be easy for people to think I'm just making horrible jokes at the expense of the afflicted, but that's not even remotely what's in my heart. I genuinely love and feel for these characters, and groan in sympathy at their many trials. And laugh, of course, at the unfairness of their situations. I personally believe that I'm celebrating those who carry on after Life smacks them around...because sooner or later, that's all of us.
@Dan- Yes! Aunt Clara! I absolutely see (and hear) the similarity!
Duck's off.
Just saw that Don Surber gave you a link
https://donsurber.blogspot.com/2019/12/democrats-rushed-to-impeach-and-stopped.html
Wooooo!
IMO this is another demonstration of just how inept & usually transparent Democrats are at trying to do anything. They are good at posturing, lying, bluffing, cheating, bullying, claiming success, etc; and as we well know they do not give up. But actually accomplish what they intend? Not much good; a lot of failure... unless it's their goal to creating chaos.
It's good to see so many more of the electorate waking up to all this.
Congrats and resolving IRS issue. And many thanks for the gifts. And thanks for the great blogs, I look forward to them 3 times a week.
Wishing the Missus and you a Merry Christmas!
@Strelnikov- Is "duck's off" a reference to Basil Fawlty's "gourmet night," or am I missing something?
@DougM- That was a very pleasant surprise! I'm a big fan of Don Surber!
@Rod- I hope a lot MORE of them wake up to reality, but I haven't seen much positive movement among my liberal friends.
@Prarie Lion- There really shouldn't have been any question about the IRS issue resolving in my favor...but I still held my breath for the many months it took to get the "all clear." Thank you for the Christmas wishes, and please accept mine for you and yours!
