Eye bleach is available in the White House gift shop |
I'm usually pretty enthusiastic about Independence Day, but this year I'm just not feeling it. I look at our nation and increasingly get the feeling that we red, white, and blew it.
Are we still the greatest country on Earth? Yes, but it helps that so many of the other countries are, in the timeless words of Donald Trump, "third-world sh*tholes."
"Oh look!" you and your holiday guests might exclaim, "there's a talking turd in our punchbowl!" And I don't mean to be that guy but honesty prevents me from much else this year. The Biden Crime Family is running rampant while the FBI and DOJ, both enemies of the people, spend their time harassing Donald Trump for imaginary crimes to make sure that, once again, our votes won't count in the next presidential election.
Many on the Left are currently melting down over the Supreme Court's opinions that racial discrimination is a bad thing and that loans, student or otherwise, are supposed to be paid back. Not that the United States itself has any ability to pay back even a fraction of the money it's borrowed.
Our southern border has fallen; federal agents are currently cutting razor wire on private properties to make sure that illegal immigrants (and sex traffickers, drug mules, and terrorists) aren't inconvenienced on their way in.
And don't even start me on Covid. Our government paid to create it, lied about it, ripped our freedoms away with nonsensical policies to fight it, then leaned heavily on us to make sure we received "vaccines" that didn't vaccinate but, oh yeah, caused a raft of serious and potentially lethal complications in otherwise healthy people. And did I mention that over one million Americans died from the Fauci/Wuhan lab leak? In the America I thought I lived in, there would be consequences for that.
But as is so frequently the case, our Constitution offers a ray of hope for making many of these situations right again by meting out justice to those who need it with (ahem) meaningful punishments to discourage future shenanigans. And by "meaningful," I mean punishments that will make people say "yikes!"
Fortunately, the Constitution tells us how...
The 8th Amendment forbids "cruel and unusual" punishment. But let's read that the way any good lawyer (sorry for the oxymoron) would: cruel AND unusual punishment is prohibited, not cruel OR unusual punishment. So cruel punishment is okay and unusual punishment is okay, just so long as you don't do both at the same time.
This opens the door for many colorful and likely effective ways of putting our country back on its proper course. Woodchippers, DIY submersibles, guillotines, iron maidens, Spanish donkeys, and the classic combo of honey and anthills could all play a valuable role in our nation's revitalization. Heads stuck on pikes could make a major comeback and bring visitors back to Washington, DC. Boiling tar would certainly be a legitimate infrastructure expense, and feathers are free for the taking at the base of every Green New Deal wind turbine in America.
Again, I truly apologize for my lack of holiday cheer this time around. And I sincerely hope that you and yours will enjoy the fireworks you can see, even if they're not yet the fireworks we should see.

Happy Birthday to the Republic...if you can keep it!
Amen, citizen.
I agree...whole heartedly
Happy Independence Day Eve!
I recall a series called "The Sipsey Street Irregulars". Not sure where it can be found nowadays, but it was quite the tale...
We all know what needs to be done. "...But when a long Train of Abuses and Usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a Design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future Security..."
The problem is we all know what trouble that will bring. Do the Despots really know what they are doing?
Thanks… I cannot un-see that picture.
The comments about your country can be used in a number of others around the world.Independence Day you can still have, but our Australia Day has been under fire for the last few years. For punishment of crimes, maybe you can put the native Americans back in business, they seem to have a few good ideas for punishment and they didn't need an expensive prison system.
I honestly don't know what our options are. We have no organization that I'm aware of, and everything we post on the interwebz goes straight to the NSA.
We've been stuck in a seemingly endless pattern of overcast skies and rain for weeks and it is forecast to continue for all the days on the 10 day forecast. The weather, along with the factors you outlined in your essay, is making it hard to be merry about Independence Day
@Bones: I'm not 100% certain but I think the guilt you're supposed to feel over Australia Day is akin to what we're being programmed to feel about what was formerly and universally known as Columbus Day
Joe says you need F-15's if you're planning on going after the government even though AR 15's are some of the most deadly weapons of war ever invented. The most deadly weapons are of course pistol braces, which turn your pistol into a gun and that gun can fire larger caliber bullets. So I bought a couple of cap guns at the Dollar General, slapped 6 pistol braces on them and now they're 20 mm cannons that can shoot down F-15's. I'm ready for you, Joe.
Right there with you.
Stilton.......
....it’s a painful and extremely sad time for America......we need to pray for our great country.....but about 50% of Americans are calling for a revolution to eradicate our amazing Constitution.........the youth in a very short future will achieve that goal.
Bleak times. Old Wayne In Indiana
Wow Stilton, who needs fireworks after that commentary? I am sad to say I must concur 100%. Every day I feel more and more like I am living my life as a character in 1984 or Brave New World. The cultural rot and narcissistic indulgence we have tolerated and perhaps scoffed at for years have metastasized to an extent that may indeed be terminal. May God help us, and more importantly to me, may my daughter and grandchildren find a way to live in freedom.
@Jerryskids- That is awesome. Kudos.
Mike has been passed these many years, but his writings can still be found.

Punishment for their treasonous assaults' on The United States of America? I won't hold my breath. Remember there is a reason they are trying to disarm law-abiding citizens. The Bill of Rights has been largely rendered null and void. Read it one amendment at a time and honestly say you still have the right guaranteed.
Benjamin Franklin said, "“A republic if you can keep it”, when asked what kind of government was set up. We could not keep it, and in recent times have residents of this country that have thrown it away with both hands.
I'm glad I am old enough that I will not live to see the final curtain fall.
YES, YES, YES !
And Tricky Ricky is right - we're definitely in a 1984 / Brave New World situation.
Agreed. Time for Nuremberg 2.0.
Some eye bleach. My kingdom for some eye bleach!
Fantastic column too, Stilton. It s/b required reading!
If the commies succeed in rigging the election again next year, I don't think our country will survive another Obama term, if it even survives this one. In my opinion, if this happens, the only choice we have is an Article V Convention of States. The commies have taken over every institution in our country and fighting that in the normal scheme of things is a losing cause. Do I want this to happen? No, but we will lose our country if we don't.
Nice collection of new puns, Stilt.
I also like the imagery of heads-om-pikes as a tourist attraction.

Be of good cheer. We are not France or Germany. And the contagion is confined to the entire Federal Government and all blue states, and major metro areas in Res States. Your beloved memorial garden will be fine.
Yes, sad and true!
Shelly, looking from overseas, your problem is not Barry but the people pulling his strings.Unlike joe he can read the telepromt, but on questions not scripted he has no idea what to say and just rambles on like joe.Find his puppet masters and you may get somewhere.
@Bones, you are correct. But they chose the most viable person to carry out their agenda (hint: smooth talking Black Man). Obama has a vast infrastructure funded by the world's worst characters and it doesn't matter which Democrat is in office, they will carry out the orders.
It is truly a dark time in our country’s history. Please realize that all of these things are meant to demoralize us and make us shrug our shoulders and just submit. Do not let them win. There are more of us than of them and they continually prove how stupid they really are. We shall overcome and be stronger for it. Our forefathers didn’t give up and neither should we. Happy Treason Day Fellow Colonials!

I don't think there's any "If"
Put me down for the Tar n' Feathers brigade!
Actually, I have read that they used pine tar, or sap, not the hot tar from roofing applications. It is still very difficult to get off and holds feathers rather well but it does not kill the offending person.
