Fun trivia: Liberals can't possibly finger out this punchline! |
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced a new initiative to help ensure that the Oscars will now be as insufferable and annoying as, oh, a major league football game. Specifically, no film will even be considered for "Best Picture" unless it tags enough social justice bases by having a lead role performed by an "underrepresented racial or ethnic group," has at least 30% of the supporting actors be from underrepresented groups (including LGBTQ+, the cognitively disabled, and the hard-of-hearing), has a storyline centered on one or more of these groups, and/or has a sufficient number of crew members behind the cameras who come from these groups.
In other words, we're going to be seeing Jussie Smollet in a lot of leading roles (the new Black Panther?) and a metric ass-load of films listing Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and the Obamas as Executive Producers.
But of course, there are other prestigious awards besides the Oscars. And guess who just got nominated for one...?
Yes, President Trump has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize owing to his diplomatic work in the Middle East and North Korea, scaling down current wars, and keeping the largest military power on Earth (us!) from getting involved in any new wars. Sure, all of that isn't quite as impressive as Barack Obama's Nobel Peace Prize-winning accomplishment of simultaneously being Black and having well-creased pants, but still...not bad for a White guy.
Of course, the President still has his critics. Much is currently being made of the revelation from Bob Woodward's new book, "All The President's Mendacity" (just kidding, though we think Woodward really missed an opportunity here) that President Trump knew of Covid-19's risks early on, but undersold them to the public in order to prevent panic.
Although Joe Biden was discouraging any action against the virus at the time, he now feels strongly that Trump was in the wrong...
NINETEEN YEARS LATER - NEVER FORGET
If we suffered such an event today, I don't believe we'd come together as a people. It would simply be more fuel on an already raging fire.
Somehow, I hope we can find our way to a future in which national unity is at least possible. And to get there, we could do a lot worse than taking time to remember the solemn lessons of the past.

Given those standards I guess we will never see a remake of The Sound of Music.
On 9/11 be prepared for any terrorist activity in "celebration" of the event
Oh, never mind, the terrorists are taking a break
They already have BLM and ANTIFA taking care of that
Ironically, @John25mm, an Oscar winner like Show Boat would qualify, despite having a severely bowdlerized story that marginalized many of the black characters. But Oliver!, My Fair Lady, and Gigi! (just to name a few other best picture winners that were also musicals, would not.
Mutiny on the Bounty might squeak by, due to the Polynesian extras...
I've been disinclined to consider the Nobel Peace Prize as *prestigious* ever since they gave one to Yassir Arafat yemach sh'mo v'zichro [= may he rot in hell].
Never forget.......... and never forget the same media that rightfully showed endless replays of Pearl Harbor, rushed to end the replays of this act of war and the suffering of that awful day ........ (the media believes the American public are just gutter minded, dim witted brutes who must be protected from the truth)
I'd like to nominate "Black Lesbian Lovers Go Green" for Best Picture
All this tells me we are in the middle of a quasi-religious frenzy like others that have consumed to easily led and the aggrieved. In today's WSJ Opinion section, a contributor, Ms. Ayaan Hirsi Ali, gives it a name; Wokeism.
Oh and how's this for 'originality'?
In the pile of 3rd class mail yesterday was soon to be made fodder for future pizza boxes, appeal frm the Biden campaign's "Victory Fund", above the address was printed "(First name) are you with me?
The ghost of the vile, amoral poison to our political system and society lives on.
Does "Gond With The Wind" qualify for a remake?
So, as a cognitively disabled person (i.e. - a dumbass), Joe Biden has some opportunities after November 3rd!
My reaction to 9/11 at the time was that making the entire Middle East save for Israel a large glassy parking lot would improve the real estate considerably. Can't say as my opinion has changed a great deal.
@Maoz: "Yemach sh'mo v'zichro" fits rather well to Mister Soebroto, Mister Biden and the rest of their ilk as well.
Academy Wokewards: All ya got to do is retitle the 2008 winner to "No Country For White Men" and ya got the next Oscar winner. Pfui.
A plethora of subjects today...
The AMPA&S have become just another cacophonous echo chamber of babbling imbeciles. Anything even nominated for one of their "awards" becomes an automatic "NEVER see". That especially includes the "awards" show itself.
Since the Arafat Peace award I have regarded Nobel Prizes as being a fancy Cracker Jack prize. Paul Krugman getting one for economics settled all doubt. They now have all the relevance of the cartoon on the inside of a bubble gum wrapper. Actually, President Trump should be embarrassed by the nomination.
And what was he thinking to have an interview with Woodward? Apparently Lindsey Grahamnesty was one of the co-conspirators in that debacle. PDJT should have learned that he CANNOT trust him. Since The McCain/Grahamnesty alliance, everything LG has done has been suspect.
While history has a lot to teach us, the current woke generation has no use for history that they haven't made. Which means they will have to learn the hard way. The attitude of the BLM/Antifa/Progressive/Socialist/SJW crowd is that if you don't agree with them, then you should be eradicated. That just happens to mirror @Markshere2's analysis of Pislam. Perhaps all such like minded types could be invited to a gathering in an Iraqi desert to participate in @MMM's solution. I'll pitch in for a plane ticket for some of them.
Three zingers is a hat-trick; then a meaningful memorial image. Great work today. My favorite by small margin is #2. I like it when Barry is left in silence. If he's not talking, he's not lying.
@Maoz- Let us not forget that Robert Mugabe, the former asshat leader of Zimbabwe, was also worthy of a Nobel. May he rot in hell.....
Great work today Stilton, on this very solemn anniversary. My favorite was the first one, indeed liberals can not finger it out, since they have not been exposed to that part of the story. Or if they did hear actual reportage, they stuck their fingers in their ears and made child sounds.
@markshere2- Exactly!
@Markshere: May I add: Even though I/we have personal & good experience with people & families of Muslim faith; at much higher international and national levels the root problems are (1) Islam is an incompatible form of government even moreso than a religion; and (2) It's also a hijacked religion. 2001 has been 19 years filled with a lot of war; and I don't believe the USA nor world have figured that out nearly as well as is needed. In fact we're moving in other directions.

Surely we will... the pathetic Broadway play Alexander Hamilton is a harbinger of the new American "culture."

Hollyweird needs to expand its insidious propaganda agenda by starting with the kiddies. I suggest that they contact Disney to produce a new series of cartoon movies featuring all the traditional Disney characters, but in new roles in remakes of cartoons, such as "Mickey Mouse Wears his First Dress;" or, "Donald and Daisy Join BLM;" or (from Warner Bros)..."Bugs and Porky Get Married," or ..."Porky Becomes Porkella."
For the first time in 19 years, I was able to simply sleep through the moment I watched a plane fly into my old office space at the Pentagon. One mile south in a temporary office building, I was walking into my boss' office, looking toward the Pentagon, when the plane made impact. A couple seconds later, the building shook, but there was no sound. We were packed, ready to move into our newly renovated spaces the next day. Had we already been there, it wouldn't have been good.
I reported to the Army Operations Center in a still burning building -- took them three days to get the fire out, and the rest of the building continued to operate. I have not forgotten, have not forgiven, cannot forget -- but I have finally let go the rage that has ruined this day for so many years.
@Stilton, you are firing on all cylinders today.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: (That title always ticked me; it's so pretentious, isn't it?)
For decades, I've argued a couple of things, that the arts and professional sports should be made to live up to the same insane mandates that are made of other private industry, and that people need to get fed up enough to turn off their TVs and stop going to movies. This may actually achieve that!
I mean wouldn't The Irishman had been so much better with more leading roles going to non-white and non-gender-binary people?
So just as the auto industry is forced to sell boring, crappy "compliance cars" that nobody wants to buy to appease the EPA, Hollywood will have to make crappy and silly films to appease the wokees. Outside of their pretentious little circle, nobody will care and the studios will go bankrupt.
Well, there's probably one flaw in my little plan: The Chinese fascists may continue to fund Hollywood for no better reason than to destroy as much of American culture as they can.
Speaking of Hollywood: Jussie is back.
It's as though he's testing my maxim of "There is absolutely nothing a Progressive can do to permanently destroy their career as long as they are faithful to the Progressive narrative". If he had just acted slightly contrite, joined some marches or spoke out against any supposed injustice beyond himself, he might actually have had work by now. Remember, in the Progressive reality, it could have happened, and that's what really counts.
Nobel Prize: This one won the "Belly laugh of the morning" award today, and will get bookmarked for future deployment. Of course, the likelihood of Trump actually getting the award is literally less-than-zero. And considering the company of other winners over recent decades, I'd just assume Trump didn't get it. If awarding people like Obama (before he even had a chance to actually do anything as President) or Yasser Arafat proved anything, it's that the Nobel Peace Prize today is little more than a projection of the hopes, dreams and fantasies of Progressive European Utopianists, and little more.
Bob's book: So today's narrative is that Trump failed because he didn't incite a panic? It's literally one day "Trump's a fascist! He must be stopped!" and the next it's "It's a virus! Trump won't be a fascist!".
So while Trump was trying not to induce a panic, what were Democrats doing? Condemning Trump's travel ban and encouraging people to party in Chinatown to prove they're not racists.
Beyond being the Marie Antoinette party, the Democrats must also now be the Alzheimer's party. They literally forget whatever it was they were saying, doing, or were upset about yesterday. Which perhaps is why Biden is their candidate.
Nineteen Years: Still etched in my mind like it was yesterday. Upon seeing headlines online when I logged into my computer for work, I'll never forget turning on the TV in my office, and literally just as it warmed up and the picture appeared (remember when TVs had to "warm up"?) the 2nd plane hit the other tower. Surreal. Hard to believe that it's been 19 years.
And I am afraid you are right, @Stilton. What would it take to bring America back together today?
@Alfonso Bedoya - I think Daffy Duck is more likely to be
Porky Pigs p-p-p-partner:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f05vn-OqZc8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdsoK-eU0ic
Also, I suspect Porky is more likely to become a Patty rather than a Porkella ...
I like most of you knew it was not safe to work there on the ground after the attack, despite what NY and NYC said .... Never let us forget those who died afterwards from inhalation of toxins or PTSD years later ..... some suffer even today......
As Far as holliweird awards - all it means to most of us is more movies we will never see. As we lack the depth and gravitas to appreciate the subtle nuance of boring uninteresting movies watch only to give us bragging rights with 'our betters' .....
The idea of escape and enjoyment, to be entertained with a film is so, so much beneath them. The day I see a Bruce Willis, Mel Gibson, Tyler Perry or other real popular movies win, will be the day I might pay attention to what they have to say ......And 'being woke' ain't gonna do it for me....
Go on, Hollywood. Keep alienating the majority to pander to the minority and pay the price. I can only speak for Mrs. Muenster and myself, but we lost interest in most big Hollywood films years ago, and that lack of interest is now turning into an outright disdain. I'm sure we are far from alone in this. I'll still go to a Star Trek or other big sci-fi, but the first time I see a Capt. Kirk kiss a Scotty, I'm done with that too. The Avengers already lost me about two movies ago.
And yesterday, we cancelled Netflix. I was disturbed when they hired the Tooth Whistle and Wookie, but seeing eleven year olds twerking and showing their crotches pushed us over the edge. I hope they lose at least half their subscribers over that crap.
I agree with Mr. Econ above. Prez. Trump got a nomination, but the moonbats who actually vote are very, very likely to give it to another moonbat. Should Trump actually win by some sheer miracle, I pray he turns it down.
Pearl Harbor happened before I was born, but my parents made sure I fully knew what happened, but they did not cast blame. The terrorist attacks on 9-11 happened before my grandkids were born, but I am making darn sure they know what happened AND who to blame. Why add "who to blame?" The Japanese became contrite and strove to be our friends. The muslim terrorists have yet to do that, but we can pray it happens.
The good news for Hollywood is that the majority of their producers are already brain-damaged.
So they've got that going for them.
@Alfonso Bedoya, @Anonymous: Ah! Porky becomes Pansy, has a highly-televised fling with BLM activist/figurehead Daffy, but secretly enters into a lesbian relationship with former girlfriend Petunia. (Remember that character?) Oscar-nominated song: "Planting a Pansy in the Petunia Bed"
H'm. Daffy Duck in "Duck Lives Matter"? "Mighty sporting of the little black duck..."
On 9/11, I was driving to work when news of the plane hitting the Pentagon broke on the radio. I had the usual "Tch! How terrible!" reaction. Little did I know how much shit was about to hit the proverbial fan...
My mother, terminally ill with cancer, was trapped up in Maine, unable to fly back to Philadelphia for her treatments. We eventually got her home, but she wound up dying two weeks after the attacks. I blame Al-Queda for robbing her of at least six months of life.
Never forgive, never forget.
Maybe someone in a California grad school, as a public service plus a useful degree could develop a math equation and with accurate data: Project the decline of the need for Hollywood.
It would track the cumulative increase in old movies since they're being preserved by more and more types of media from film cans to cassettes and now digital files VS. the dwindling number of new movies worth seeing. When the split of old vs new is huge (if it's not already); then also factor in the inconvenience, cost, risk & tolerance required to see a new one AND all the alternatives for fun & entertainment. I assume Hollywood will at some time be out of business. And for the most part, who would notice or care? We're going to have robots making movies & TV crap soon anyway; and will probably then have social justice warriors for A.I.
Aw the President's Mean
Creativity + woke = Unwatchable movies. I personally hope Hollywood pays the price for their stupidity. Pissing off your customers to appease the woke doesn't sound like a solid business plan to me. As if the celebrities could not become more insufferable, we learn that's not true.
As for the Oscars, The Shape of Water was best picture worthy...Green Book was a really good movie as well....there is one member with a working brain in there.
When the combat troops return home the one recurring theme I hear a lot is they are first fighting for their battle buddies, then the other stuff...I get that. When the "troops" of Americans line up shoulder to shoulder finally, armed and determined, we will be united all we need to be...the BLM super racists and the Pantyfa crazies will be piled up in a stark nightmare of mistaken spoiled children and foolish racist dimwits and the lesson will have been learned for a gen or 2...NEVER f**k with the American bull, his horns are particularly unpalatable to ingest.
Meanwhile, generations of Americans will point proudly, as we have done in other conflicts, to their ancestors who took up arms to save the burning country that was (is) the United States of America.
I have confidence this will be the end result of all the posturing of the left and those who misread the situation so wrongly...the "911 rage" many feel, is building with every beating of some innocent elderly person, every dead child, every destroyed gleefully neighborhood and city, and it will be a whirlwind of Biblical proportions the left will harvest.
How did I miss it? The song would actually be:
"P-P-Planting a P-P-P-Pansy in the P-P-Petunia B-Bed"...
@ Mj Arkay: My 9/11 day wasn't that dramatic/traumatic, but with my office then in Rosslyn... Recall going back to my office after watching the events in NYC unfold, the windows of my office faced south, and saw what I thought was for a momen,t a thunderhead, only to realize it was a huge cloud of black smoke coming from the Pentagon. Was talking to a work colleague this morning and was told he had been working on a rooftop at Bailey's Crossroads when the plane, piloted by islamic cowards roared directly overhead at full speed.
The husband of one of my cousins in his indignation over Bush II sending troops to Iraq, opined he'd rather have another 9/11 here than have our troops fight (and make them bleed) the islamofacists there. I haven't spoken to either he or that cousin since.
@MAJ Arkay, what do you say to the conspiracy clowns who claim that a plane didn't hit the Pentagon? People seem to think that since it didn't leave a cartoon-like plane shaped hole in the building that it wasn't a plane. What do the day's eyewitnesses say to the conspiracy clowns?
@JustaJeepGuy: All the eyewitnesses in the world will not convince someone who finds it easier to believe that W and the MIC brought down buildings and set explosions, rather than a "mostly peaceful" group of Islamofascisti in fuel-loaded airplanes... (See @MAJ Arkay and @Fish Out of Water for at least two eyewitnesses of plane impacting Pentagon.)
@JustaJeepGuy: Here's a link to a YouTube that shows a Security video of the plane hitting Pentagon Still not the best angle.
@Joseph ET, that won't convince any of the conspiracy nuts. The only thing that might is if they had actually been there that day and personally seen the impact. Then again, had they seen it, they wouldn't be conspiracy theorists.
