The news may be grim, but we'll be damned if we're not going to at least try to put a smile on your face on the last Friday before Christmas! And who better to make that happen than America's favorite sugarplum, Busty Ross!

It would be indiscreet of us to mention what part of Miss Ross shakes "like a bowlful of jelly" when she laughs, but we'll admit to working a lot of Christmas-themed jokes into office conversation lately. For instance,  "How much did Santa's sleigh cost?" Answer: "Nothing, it was on the house!"

And no, Miss Ross didn't laugh either.

Nor were we laughing when looking over recent news: thanks to the Fed's decision to shoot the Wall Street wounded, our portfolio has officially become a portfoliette, Mad Dog Mattis has announced that he's leaving the Trump administration in February, and 2019 is shaping up to be the year of unending idiotic legal proceedings to hamstring the President.

But despite all of that (and much more), we're actually in a pretty good mood. Daughter Jarlsberg returns home for the holidays today, our neighborhood is ablaze in Christmas lights, and tidings of comfort and joy are in the air. Our favorite Christmas songs are playing nonstop, and our thoughts have turned to Peace on Earth and good will to men. And women. And "others," too - what the heck.

But most importantly, we want to say... "Hey Busty! What do angry mice send each other in December? Cross mouse cards!!!"

Wow. Tough room.

BONUS: Speaking of shaking things up for Christmas, this should do the job nicely!

Speaking of the stock market -- it sure has gone downhill since Obama claimed credit for the record highs.
His reverse-Midas touch seems to work still.

Merry Christmas to the Jarlsberg family, and all the readers here.
And "Baby it's cold outside" to Busty Ross. (joke)
Thank you, for another year of laughs.

Take care, be safe.
God bless.

This is not all "Christmas Spiritie" and I don't care: For long time I've put Obama in the same category as Kardashians, Jenner, & many others; some others are more in the news & their faces on TV right now. I don't want to see or hear them; don't care what they think or say. They're what those buttons on the controller are for; and that opinion is a bit stronger for Barry. He would call me racist; I say he earned it.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, ya'll, from Oklahoma. The state of snow on Thanksgiving but not Christmas (yet, maybe). I think 2019 may be an interesting and unusual year in more respects than one. I've been listening to The Praying Medic in youtube about something called Q Anon. Interesting and disturbing, and definitely thought provoking. Q Anon is someone posting on 8chan (I didn't know there was an 8chan even). You guys might check it out and see what you think.

I'm just hoping for a better year, but family drama, and not the good kind, is kicking into overdrive and disrupting what should be a joyful season. Having someone in the family who is honest-to-God certifiably crazy, hell bent on throwing a major temper tantrum when they don't get their way, and looks to be associating with another person who thinks they are a tough bully is not going to be fun. Let's just say cops have already been called once, VPO's are being looked into (unfortunately useless), and bail money is being set aside for those of us who may need it. I'm the oldest child and I don't tolerate someone upsetting or trying to intimidate an aging parent who is sliding into dementia. Yeah, fun times ahead.

Merry Christmas to all from the newly blue state of Virginia. Not sure why we all think anything is going to change in 2019. SOSDD is the norm.

But on a different note - thanks to Busty for starting my weekend off right!

Stock market is still higher than it was when the "dic" was president, as if a president can be blamed for the gamblers on Wall Street. I all seems kinda phony to me.
Busty is cute but not my cup of tea. I don't even know what current hunk gets it anymore. Tom Selleck used to but is too old now.
Have a Merry and Blessed CHRISTmas everyone!

Recently inna news a SWAT Sgt was demoted for wearing a QAnon patch on his uniform...taking a pic with VP Pence in Broward county.
I tend to consider secret conspiracies everyone knows about with a roll of the eyes and usually a secret mental facepalm.

Family can be so weird...hold fast and do what you need to...it'll be over with sooner or later, make sure it's you still standing.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas plus the board posters and non posters. There is still a bit of excitement left in this fleeting year. President Trump has said he would take the heat for a shutdown and I believe he is will shut it down because of the disparaging from the two nitwits, Schumer and Pelosi. Even layed back me was highly irritated by their juvenile bullying. Then, will we ever get shut of that useless moron McConnell?

Stilton, thank you so much for posting the video! I have heard For King and Country's version of The Little Drummer Boy on my local Christian radio station, but hadn't seen the video. The sheer exuberance of the drummer boy performing for the Lord is what Christmas is all about. God bless you and yours!

Christmas demands eggnog. So, have at least a little sip, and if there's not enough nog, a shot of a good brown water insures the warmth of Christmas cheer.

Have a good one. With me, those soon to be, are outnumbered by those that were. It's a sobering thought sometimes, which brings me back to eggnog.

Merry Christmas, everyone! I truly enjoyed the video and even I, as a woman, can appreciate Busty's beauty. Have a wonderful, safe, and sane Christmas!!

I take it by today's blog that there will not be one Monday. So, Merry Christmas one and all!
For me, this Christmas is looking to be better than usual. As a self employed electrician, winter is usually my slow time. However, this year I have been busier than normal. I have overpaid my monthly bills. I own no stocks. I love the falling gas prices. Also, in 5 short months I become eligible for So-so Security. Thank you Santa!

I believe the deep state includes the Fed. The socialist revolutionists - the real ones - are no longer solely dependent on violence to come into full power. There are so many other strings on their lyre to pluck these days. And once entrenched, they sure do play a symphony...

I'm having a hard time finding the Christmas spirit this year for multiple reasons - not the least of which is the darkness up and down the street I grew up on. Once a festive tunnel of Christmas lights, it is now the dark and dreary extension of benighted Dearbornistan it has become. Though there are many I count as friends in the individual sense, as an invading population: I really hate them. I think the invading democrats from the south would be better neighbors, and I'd much rather see union signs, pinatas, and cinqo de mayo decor up and down the street than what I see there today.

As one that was always taught to hate the act but not the man, that's saying a lot. I guess the left wins. Their love for hatred is spilling over and contaminating some of our thinking as well...

And no, Miss Ross didn't laugh either.

But I bet she's still cute when she pouts.

Market Turmoil: Well, there's a lot going on. Trump's trade tweets certainly didn't help. The media is doing it's best to beat the "government shutdown" drum. The Brexit isn't going smoothly. And after over a decade of near-zero interest rates the Fed finally decides that it's time to raise rates. (Something else that would not be happening if the queen had won) If you going to argue that the Fed raising rates is responsible for the latest hit to the market, then you have to admit that the Fed suppressing them during the Obama era is the only thing that goosed the market during the Obama era.

And when looking at the market, you have to take the long view. The S&P 500 is still up 20% since November, 2016.

Count your blessings where you find them. Merry Christmas.

I find Ms. Ross to be truly irresistible. Like us old guys say: hubba-hubba.

Best of Christmas wishes to the Stilton Clan, Mr, Mrs, and the young one. Also, the best to the gang of usual suspects. All of you give us in the long haul, hope for the future. I appreciate each and every one of you.

I would encourage you to check on your older folks often this season. After I retired, I worked in a funeral home part-time for a while. We observed that right about now, the incidence of older folks passing would peak for the whole year. Not necessarily from complications, but from being tired and lonely. Sometimes, it was if they said "enough" and turned off the switch.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone. It's going to be a busy time from now through Christmas and then I'm off to New York to ring in the new year so I probably won't be able to check in here. Best to you Stilton for providing the entertainment you do and keep for keeping me grounded when I despair.

@Dan- Regarding the stock market, and I want to phrase this very carefully, how many days in a row can I take it up the ass and still be considered straight?

@p kerit- She's intelligent, strong, patriotic, attractive and independent. What's not to love?

@Griz Alaska- Merry Christmas right back at you, and here's hoping you didn't get too shaken by that recent quake!

@REM1875- Don't tell anyone, but for years I've intended to write a children's book called "Bah, the Humbug." No, really.

@jack- And to you and yours!

@Regnad Kcin- That may well be the high point of 2019!

@Rod- Amen, brother. Barry was the first true "celebrity president," and I no longer give a damn if people say I'm racist for not liking his horrible policies and divisive rhetoric. Screw him.

@mamafrog- I'm sorry the holidays are turning into the Hellish days for you. Christmas can be a real crucible for family tensions and conflicts, or even just the pressure of high expectations and sometimes unwanted commitments. I hope that somewhere in there you find some peace and hope. And of course, things always tend to be friendly and welcoming here in our little blog family.

@Jim Irre- I have worries about Texas turning blue, too. But for now, Miss Ross's Christmas wishes are all the distraction I need.

@Brie Camembert- And Merry Christmas to you, which I hope is celebrated in properly Dickensian fashion in Britain!

@j - Hey, I'm just the messenger.

John25mm said...

First off I want to say to all Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.

Busty Ross, well damn. I will definitely have sugar plums or something dancing in my head later.

As to the "great" Barry O some might say that I am racist for hating what he did because he is black but I also hate the white half of him. On a plus side he is at least 50% black so that is a boat load more than Warren is Indian.

Again Merry Christmas and value your family because as long as you or they are alive people can change and maybe even for the better. At least that is what I pray to God for.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Judi King- The stock market isn't really a good indicator of the overall health of the economy. It did fine under Obama while the economy was in complete disarray. And sorry that I don't have a hunky guy to share for the female readers. I can assure you that there's no amount of photoshopping that would allow me to fill that role (grin).

@Section147- I killed the link to the picture with animated snow over Busty, because it wasn't working. As far as Busty herself being animated, that's why we were given imaginations.

@Gee M- I'm pretty skeptical about the QAnon stuff myself. If you make your predictions cryptic, then can seem to be true under most circumstances. And good advice about surviving holiday gatherings.

@James Daily- As of this writing, the shutdown is actually happening. Although oddly, the sun still rose this morning and I don't see anyone running and screaming in the streets.

@Susan Bischer- I really enjoyed the For King and Country performance (I'm a sucker for Big Percussion) and it does impart an unusual power and majesty to the song.

@Anonymous- Thank you, and Christmas wishes to you too!

@M. Mitchell Marmel- And a jolly holly day!

@Jess- Yes, this can be a time for sobering reflection, which is why non-sobering eggnog seems like such a good idea.

@Laura D- Wait, a sane Christmas? That's raising the bar, but I'll give it a shot!

@Geoff King- Actually there WILL be a post on Monday, but it will likely just be a Christmas greeting and a notice that there won't be a Wednesday post (events allowing) so I don't have to work on Christmas day.

And it sounds like things are working out nicely for you!

@Emmentaler Limburger- I think the Fed's move (which took tens of thousands out of my retirement savings) was a deliberate shot at Trump. Deep state indeed.

And sorry to hear of the frankly frightening demographic shift in your area...and pretty much all other areas, although not always with the same groups of people. The future looks very different from what I once thought, and hoped, it would be.

@AmyH- You can't say it better than that!

@Gee M- I love that song.

@Garrett Fonda- Merry Christmas to you too!

@Alfonso Bedoya- Wow, that's a very entertaining video! I'd love to see this guy live!

@John the Econ- I agree with your observations about the market. And even though I'm only seeing "paper losses" in my portfolio, it's been a sh*t ton of paper. I am (or at least was) overweighted in high tech stocks which have dumped about 30% of their value over the past couple of months. Hopefully they'll creep back upwards someday.

@Rod- If it was an ad, they'd be offering the Christ child a coke instead of a drum solo.

@MAJ Arkay- The GoFundMe campaign is now over $14 million. Seems like this should send a pretty clear message to Washington.

@Sortahwitte- "Hubba-hubba" is the appropriate response to Miss Ross. It shows appreciation without violating good taste. And a good idea to check up on older folks at this time of year to make sure they're not feeling forgotten.

@Seal- The David Bowie/Bing Crosby duet shouldn't work, but it actually does. Still, sort of a weird cultural moment.

@Shelly- Save travels! And I think we all keep each other grounded around here!

james daily said...

Stilt: Enjoy you time with the daughter. Time with our children is what old folks miss the most. Mine will be in from Tampa today, then back to work on Wed. He did work in the CB game Sunday for himself and his bro. Lordy, I do love Christmas.

On a more serious note, I would love to see the Wall tied to the Tunnel, sort of apropos in my way of thinking if both were $29 Billion. Schumer will sequel like a pig under a gate.
