Going For The Brass

stilton’s place, stilton, political, humor, conservative, cartoons, jokes, hope n’ change, simone biles, olympics, biden, dementia, resign

Hopefully the cartoon is self-explanatory, but we'll add that we support Simone Biles' tough decision to step aside from Olympic competition. Her gymnastic feats not only break the laws of physics, they flirt with serious injury or death if she's unable to perform less than perfectly.

She didn't let anyone down, and we wish her nothing but success and mental peace in the future.

THE MOST IMPORTANT NEWS IN THE WORLD?

Interested in "Following the Science" about Covid? Because here's the science: there is a safe, cheap, effective treatment and preventative that could have prevented millions of Covid deaths and serious infections. Science has known this for over a year but the news has been, and continues to be, suppressed by politicians, "experts," the news media, and social media censors.

We didn't need to shut down (or at least could have re-opened far sooner). We didn't need to be subjected to nonstop panic-stoking from the government and the media. We didn't need to crush the American work ethic, nor did we need to throw election laws to the wind last year because of the "special circumstances." And God knows we don't now need untold trillions of "Covid relief" dollars to come back from this needless (but fully intentional) nightmare.

The truth of this is incontestible. The reason it's happening and who's behind it - still a mystery - is surely one of the most important and urgent issues for which we should all be demanding answers right now.
------------
Why is the FDA Attacking a Safe, Effective Covid Treatment?
By David R. Henderson and Charles L. Hooper
Wall Street Journal July 28, 2021 12:34 pm ET

The Food and Drug Administration claims to follow the science. So why is it attacking ivermectin, a medication it certified in 1996?

Earlier this year the agency put out a special warning that “you should not use ivermectin to treat or prevent COVID-19.” The FDA’s statement included words and phrases such as “serious harm,” “hospitalized,” “dangerous,” “very dangerous,” “seizures,” “coma and even death” and “highly toxic.” Any reader would think the FDA was warning against poison pills. In fact, the drug is FDA-approved as a safe and effective antiparasitic.

Ivermectin was developed and marketed by Merck & Co. while one of us (Mr. Hooper) worked there years ago. William C. Campbell and Satoshi Omura won the 2015 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for discovering and developing avermectin, which Mr. Campbell and associates modified to create ivermectin.

Ivermectin is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines. Merck has donated four billion doses to prevent river blindness and other diseases in Africa and other places where parasites are common. A group of 10 doctors who call themselves the Front Line Covid-19 Critical Care Alliance have said ivermectin is “one of the safest, low-cost, and widely available drugs in the history of medicine.”

Ivermectin fights 21 viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, the cause of Covid-19. A single dose reduced the viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in cells by 99.8% in 24 hours and 99.98% in 48 hours, according to a June 2020 study published in the journal Antiviral Research.

Some 70 clinical trials are evaluating the use of ivermectin for treating Covid-19. The statistically significant evidence suggests that it is safe and works for both treating and preventing the disease.
In 115 patients with Covid-19 who received a single dose of ivermectin, none developed pneumonia or cardiovascular complications, while 11.4% of those in the control group did. Fewer ivermectin patients developed respiratory distress (2.6% vs. 15.8%); fewer required oxygen (9.6% vs. 45.9%); fewer required antibiotics (15.7% vs. 60.2%); and fewer entered intensive care (0.1% vs. 8.3%). Ivermectin-treated patients tested negative faster, in four days instead of 15, and stayed in the hospital nine days on average instead of 15. Ivermectin patients experienced 13.3% mortality compared with 24.5% in the control group.

Moreover, the drug can help prevent Covid-19. One 2020 article in Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications looked at what happened after the drug was given to family members of confirmed Covid-19 patients. Less than 8% became infected, versus 58.4% of those untreated.
Despite the FDA’s claims, ivermectin is safe at approved doses. Out of four billion doses administered since 1998, there have been only 28 cases of serious neurological adverse events, according to an article published this year in the American Journal of Therapeutics. The same study found that ivermectin has been used safely in pregnant women, children and infants.

If the FDA were driven by science and evidence, it would give an emergency-use authorization for ivermectin for Covid-19. Instead, the FDA asserts without evidence that ivermectin is dangerous.
At the bottom of the FDA’s warning against ivermectin is this statement: “Meanwhile, effective ways to limit the spread of COVID-19 continue to be to wear your mask, stay at least 6 feet from others who don’t live with you, wash hands frequently, and avoid crowds.”

Is this based on the kinds of double-blind studies that the FDA requires for drug approvals? No.

Mr. Henderson, a research fellow with the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, was senior health economist with President Reagan’s Council of Economic Advisers. Mr. Hooper is president of Objective Insights, a firm that consults with pharmaceutical clients.

For any potential counterpoint I just read the official FDA warn-off about Ivermectin for Covid 19 and must say it reads like it was written by a high school debate clubber; not medical experts. It's sort of like: "Don't take Ivermectin; it's for HORSES! I was expecting a lot more.

Stilton's post has more medical facts and findings. Yes; We need REAL, legitimate investigation.

Well, unless you've spent the last 10 years deworming livestock, using the Ivermectin paste you get at the feed store is probably dangerous.

But you can get the human-dosed pills at your pharmacy with a prescription obtained via teledoc.

Excellent post this morning. Your sabbatical is resharpening your wit.

As to the the virus, I too am beginning to wonder if the news we have had lately about increased cases and new variants are indeed designed to keep all in fear and more importantly, controlled.

No virologist am I but the new variants are to be expected. Just like seasonal variants of the flu, for which vaccinations are offered yearly without much clamor.

Glad to see your ennui has resolved itself for another Friday! And that I have once again proven to the AI's content that I am not an AI, which seems a little odd if you think about it. A bot challenging me to prove I'm not a bot? Do you think it knows it's a bot?

I also see the current U.S. AG, who if had not been for Mitch McConnell, would be sitting at SCOTUS has warned the Sate of Texas over its treatment of illegal aliens (why not call them invaders?)

Reaall smooth move that. Pissing off a state whose votes will be crucial in the midterms and in 2024.

As others have noted, follow the money.

I have a medication I've been taking for most of my life. The brand version works as do a couple high end generics. During the Obama administration, the FDA approved several generics from Asian companies. I presume the new generics have the proper amount of medication in them but they don't work. These are supposed to be delayed release medications but they either dump the load immediately or apparently never release the full amount of medication. The insurance companies love them. They're cheap.

Draw your own conclusions. Would I be wrong in concluding the FDA is selling out the interests of the patients?

Stilton, I seldom disagree with you but do so today. First, there are dozens of extremely talented, high-level gymnasts who desperately would have wished to represent the USA at the Olympics. Ms. Biles is undoubtedly one of the finest gymnasts in the world. But when she decided to sit out the competition, she also displaced another young woman for whom participating would have been a life's dream. That is regrettable.

As a retired physician, I've followed the COVID epidemic with interest, but fortunately with experiencing the disease. Ivermectin is a very useful drug, but that doesn't mean it is useful for COVID. The evidence is exceedingly weak. It may possibly be of small benefit (and may possibly be of slight harm). The article in the WSJ by an economist skipped over the actual science. An accessible summary is the Cochrane review:
https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD015017.pub2/full

The evidence for benefit from the vaccines available in the USA is vastly superior to that for ivermectin. Make your choices and experience consequences. It's still sort of a free country. For now.

I have been taking hydroxychloroquine (generic Plaquinil) since 2016. It, too, is an antiparisitical, originally discovered to be effective against Malaria - a blood parasite. (I have Babesiosis known as American Malaria. Similar symptoms, not as fatal.) Hydroxychloroquine isn't an anti-viral. It DOES treat inflammation, one of the ways that parasites damages the host. Just like the way Covid damages the host. But PDJT suggested it might work. So prices went up by a factor of five and all medical personnel I had to deal with interrogated me as to why and how I had a script for it. To paraphrase James "Snakehead" Carvel - "It's the money, stupid". It's also the power to control people, elections and communications. A perfect combination for tyrannical despots to ignore the Constitution and turn citizens into serfs. A man with a gun is a citizen. Without it, he is a subject.

I am not a doctor but I have spent several hundred hours researching the literature on Covid. The preponderance of articles on Ivermectin written by health professionals are favorable. Over the past year I have noted that more and more doctors are advocating early treatment of Covid, commonly with Ivermectin (and/or Hydroxychloroquine.) Here is a link (written by doctors) that summarizes some of the dozens of studies on Ivermectin.

Unapproved (by FDA) vaccines can be used only on an emergency basis and only in the absence of effective alternatives.

The only way Big Pharm could have made tens of billions of dollars from vaccines was if HCQ and Ivermectin were "not effective".

It's about the money.

By the way, the jabs for the COVID-19 are not vaccines. A vaccine provides 100% immunity against a disease. The smallpox shot is a vaccine. The mumps shot is a vaccine. None of the current medications for COVID-19 meet the definition of a vaccine.

TrickyRicky said...

If I remember correctly, the Delta variant was poised to wipe out a huge portion of the population of India. Ivermectin basically shut down that scenario. There has been no coverage of this. Makes one wonder.

The last sentence is the key. Neither the manufacturer nor any clinical researchers have proposed any double-bind placebo controlled which is the usual approach to gain FDA approval. It is not up to the FDA to ask companies to conduct such studies. However, there are several recent situations that suggest FDA is heavily influenced by existing big pharma companies to suppress new drugs that might cut into their revenue. Check out leronlimab from Cytodyn.

Some info on the side. As I understand it, the original ChiCom Flu has an over all average fatality rate of+/- 2 %; the Deltal variant has a fatality rate of 0.08% (yes, that's eight one hundredths of one percent). For comparison, the common cold, in all its 400-0dd flavors, sports a fatality rate of 17% - yet nobody seems to have a problem with THAT . . .

Simone: Of course, the thing with Simone is that she recognized that her mental acuity was not what it needed to be in order to perform as she was expected to.

Biden obviously lacks this level of self awareness.

As for Simone, I've always considered her a class act and wish her well, but I am withholding final judgement on what happened this week. For one thing she did let her team down, regardless of the reasons why. I also detect a bit of sexism in how she was treated by the media after her decision. For example, how would the same media have reacted had, say, Lebron James pulled himself out of the final game of the NBA playoffs because he "didn't feel right"?

I've heard the term "hero" applied to Simone for doing what she did. Once again, I see our culture denigrating the meaning of the term "hero". Heroism traditionally was associated with acts of selflessness. This was not an act of selflessness. I am not condemning Simone for what she did. But I also don't consider it "heroic" either.

Simone was unquestionably one of the greatest gymnasts of all time. I wish she could have retired on the top without this controversy.

I do understand the kind of pressure these kids are under, and at such a young age. I have a niece who was on this track a decade and change ago. She had the physical build, discipline and determination, and was a natural. But like a lot of sports, it was all-consuming. Literally every moment of her life that was not eating, sleeping, or in school was at the gym. She lived near a university with a world-class program that already had their eyes on her. We imagined what it would be like to travel to a future Olympic venue to watch her compete on a global stage. For a long time, she loved what she was doing and where it might go.

But then one day she decided she had had enough.

She wanted a normal life, with friends, social activities, and other interests and she saw that the next decade of gym life would deny her all of that. Fortunately, her parents and all around supported her decision in this just as they supported her decision to participate in the first place. She's since traveled around the world and graduates college next year. I don't think she regrets a thing.

Ivermectin: Some time ago, we had a cousin who is a doctor passing through town staying with us, and he noticed a package of Heartgard on the counter. He asked if that was for us or the dog. (It was the dog) That's where we heard about its efficacy against the Wuhan Flu. He and his wife had been travelling all over the country last year in their RV, and had little fear of the illness, and they carried Ivermectin, vitamin D and other well-known and yet officially scorned medicines with them. They were not scared. Honest education tends to do that.

Here is Part 1.

John the Econ said...

And speaking of the Wuhan Flu: The usual suspects have been hyping the "Delta Variant" and it looks like the masking Karens have gained their second wind. Not mentioned by anyone is just how many masks I am supposed to wear this time.

Yesterday Biden suggested that the unvaccinated should be paid $100 to get vaccinated. So is this the beginning of a bidding war? If you haven't yet been vaccinated, just how much will you hold out for?

Meanwhile, these idiots don't seem to realize that they keep handing reasons for those who have remained unvaccinated to remain so. The reason we got vaccinated in the first place was because we wanted to return to our pre-2020 mask-free lives. Now they're telling us that even though we did "the right thing" and got vaccinated, we have to wear face diapers again anyway? And those that didn't now get $100 for something we did for free?

The left has done its best to make the vax-anti-vax divide an ideological one, proclaiming that it's neanderthal right-wing knuckle-draggers being the exclusive holdouts. Strange, considering that the vaccine was the product of Trump's "Warp Speed" program, and a year ago it was Biden and Kamala who previously proclaimed that there was no way they'd take any uncertified Trump-derived vaccine. In my personal observation, most anti-vaxers I've known tend to be of the self-medicating hippie-dippy types, people who care what airhead celebrities think, or those who object on libertarian grounds; a pretty wide spread ideologically.

The narrative now includes the idea that unmasked vaccinated people are now superspreaders of the dreaded Delta Variant and will be the ones killing off the unvaccinated, so they should be made to be masks just as the unvaccinated. WTF.

You'd think that if it was only the neanderthal right-wing knuckle-draggers at risk of being killed by the unmasked, they'd be cool with it.

What they won't say is the truth; that it's African Americans that as a group are the biggest holdouts.

So how long will it be before they switch gears again and accuse the unmasked of conducting a white supremacist genocide against people of color who seem uninteresed in getting vaccinated?

Thanks for posting about ivermectin. I know I've bored everyone into a coma over the past 15 months trying to spread the word. It works. Actually it works in half a dozen different ways, kind of like how Wonder Bread built strong bodies back in the 60s.

The studies are out there from all over the world, at least 60 of them, more than 21,000 patients. And that doesn't include the hundreds of thousands treated in India, or the half dozen other countries that have officially blessed it. c19study.com.

I won't take the horse paste, but I do have 100ml of the livestock 1% injectable liquid. Just in case. 1ml has 10mg of IVM. The 3 ingredients are FDA approved for human consumption, but the product itself can't be approved for human use, as all IVM for people or their pets is by prescription only in USA. So it's a convenient Catch-22.

This morning I waded through a huge essay written by a super genius virologist. Guy's so smart you can hardly read what he's writing. But he is against the current vaccines being used during a high infectivity period, citing them as a cause of the latest variants and fearful that continued use will lead to far more lethal forms that are highly vaccine resistant. Instead, he prefers preventative treatments.
"A rapid and substantial decrease in viral infectivity rates could be achieved by a short-term course of large-scale antiviral chemoprophylaxis (suitable candidates have already been identified) ". Chemoprophylaxis means taking medicine as a preventative. So far, that means IVM and HCQ. Everything else is a vitamin pill, aka a "therapeutic nutraceuetical", or a substance your own body makes to fight infection (nitric oxide, hydrogen peroxide etc).

John The Econ -

"The left has done its best to make the vax-anti-vax divide an ideological one". And they are lying. Duh.

Most crystal gazers, yoga instructors, patchouli sniffers, and anti-vaxxers are liberals.

But the real unspoken truth is that it's the Black community that is way way behind the curve on vaccination, getting the jabs at less than half the rate of Whites or Asians. They also get the virus more often, and die from it more often - in LA, 8 times as frequently as white folks with the Delta variant. It's been like this for over a year and is only getting worse, everywhere not just LA. Almost none of them even know what the Tuskegee project was so that's not the reason. Many states have made special efforts to preach good nutrition, take your D3, and even brought mobile vaccinations to their neighborhoods. It hasn't done a thing. The Hispanic community has done better, but is also behind the vax curve and higher on the illness and death percents. All over the country. At least one of these minority groups is almost completely Democrat.

And if you'd like to prove things to yourself, look up a bunch of states and counties on the CDC map or the CovidActNow map. There is no rhyme or reason to it, no correlation between vaccination level and outbreak level (aka positive test %) and hospitalization rates. But you can spot the ethnic correlation in a second.

https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#datatracker-home

https://covidactnow.org/?s=21161039

Look up Cook County IL, and then search up the demographics (23.8% Black, 25.6% Hispanic) as a quick case in point.

All around us is propaganda. Retired doctor or no: your reliance on such s invalidates your very argument...

You can consider professional engineers to have been coopted and build your suspension bridges out of balsa wood. Let me know how that works out for you.

It seems that Xi-Jinbiden throws around the phrase 'Two trillion dollars' pretty loosely. I think that might be where I would start the bidding if they want to buy my compliance to the forced China Flu jab.

American Cowboy said...

And no, I am NOT an anti-vaxxer by any stretch of the imagination. I accept needed vaccines that have been through the approval process, and then have decades of use behind them to back them up. It is just that I choose to wait and see how this largely untested, relatively new, gene therapy shot that has only an emergency use approval works out after a reasonable amount of time. In this case the phrase, "My body, my choice" is spot on.

Anonymous said...

If you follow the Gates protocol, this is all about depopulation.
The "bug" was just an excuse to get the ""vaccine"" out.
Even the CDC says that the ""vaccinated"" have a heavier virus load then the ""un-vaccinated"". And they are spreading "something".

Back in 2004, a guy named Brian Binnie flew this little rocket-powered beauty, basically built in Burt Rutan’s garage, into space. No computer controls, not even hydraulics…the control surfaces were connected to the joystick by cables and pulleys, like a WWI biplane. THIS was the first privately built aircraft to fly to space, twice within two weeks.
So when Amazon man emerges from his ridiculously expensive toy that he had nothing to do with designing, building or flying (he even thanked all of us for paying for it), wearing a cowboy hat as if he some living-on-the-edge maverick who’s risking it all…well, I’ll tip my hat in respect to Brian.
