Tan O'Clock News

Today, we're debuting an exciting and journalistically responsible new feature intended to give a stronger voice to women in the normally testosterone-charged, scotch-swilling, cigar-chomping game of bare knuckle political commentary.

Purely as an aside, we also didn't think the news looked all that interesting today, and we didn't want to stick you with another Earwigs cartoon (no matter how delightful they are).

And so, we launch a bold experiment: grabbing actual headlines from the Drudge Report and getting reactions from some of the brightest young thinkers we could find at the beach.

stilton’s place, stilton, political, humor, conservative, cartoons, jokes, hope n’ change, out of the mouths of babes

Let us know in the comments section if you'd like to see the sporadic return of this feature on slow news days.

Lady readers should also let us know if you'd like to see a future version of this feature which includes Stilton dispensing wit and wisdom while wearing a Speedo and scented body oil.

Not actually Stilton. The beard and speedo are too big.

LATE BREAKING NEWS:

Great. So after we declared it to be a slow news day, a whole bunch of feces hit the fan when the Tuesday evening news came on.

Michael Cohen pled guilty to multiple charges including campaign finance violations, and is pinning the blame squarely on Trump (this regarding hush money paid to women who found sex with Trump so incredible that they couldn't resist talking about it even for 6-figure paydays).

Paul Manafort was found guilty on 8 out of 18 charges, virtually none of which have anything to do with Trump and everything to do with the fact that Manafort is a crooked scumbag. BUT, with an eye towards sentencing, who knows what kind of anti-Trump accusations Manafort will now make to try to save his own rear end?

Then tragically, we learned that missing Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts's body was found when her alleged killer - a Goddamned illegal alien - led police to her corpse.

Who knew that a blog post that started off in such a light-hearted and eye-pleasing way would end with so much ugliness?

Clan MacGregor, here we come.

Sad to hear about Mollie. Good start with new line of news! You might consider Heaven Hill Bourbon. Local brew here (among others) that goes well in quantity, on those breaking news days.

I hae NO doubt that in their frenzy to report toe non-news about Trump, the commie media will totally ignore the details about Mollie's murderer. Kumbayah.

Speedos and old men are not a good combo. Kind of like string bikinis and older women are not either.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, retired SEAL Admiral McRaven showed his true colors supporting that Communist Son of a Bitch John Brennan.

McRaven's speech at the University of Texas about "Making your bed" was a quill in my armor. Not now after that comment! He dead to me!

Go President Trump...MAGA!!

P.S. So sorry to hear about the senseless murder of Mollie Tibbets. Another Obama illegal fu--ing alien strikes again!

This is great, but I'd be just as happy with more Busty Ross.

I don't know if any of the networks besides Fox actually said that Mollie's murderer is an illegal living here 4-5 years. Yeah, let's not talk about that! They are salivating and having palpitations just thinking of the squeeze they will put on Cohen to tell a good story to save his own hide. What exactly is a "campaign finance violation"?
Would paying for the fake dossier be a campaign finance violation?
Cohen's was to push something down and Christopher Steele and Hillary Clinton's was to push something up. Both instances were intended to cause an effect or prevent an effect.
Didn't explain myself very clearly (still in a dither over seeing that speedo and big white...
beard!!)

Oh, man, your choice of eye candy is outstanding. Whatever you do, don't go blind. I have been thinking on the Manafort, Cohen thing, throw in Papadopoulos and Flynn and I believe President Trump is biding his time. Mueller is suppose to shut down ~9/11 (?) and I believe the minute he shuts it down, President Trump will pardon the whole bunch, regardless. Mueller has spent upward to over $20 million and never did find a democrat with Russian collusion to even interview or subpoena. However, there is still an good chance he will be shut down because it was a tainted investigation, basically the fruit of a poisoned tree. Then, Mueller will get subpoenaed by congress on his collusion.

“Tan O’clock News” is a clever feature, Stilt. My vote is to keep it. (Purposefully ignoring commenting on the rest of the column, which is insightful as always)

That second beach babe has a great pair....
of sunglasses.

I went to CNN and MSNBC to check their takes on the Mollie Tibbitts case, and both are calling the murder suspect an "undocumented immigrant". How droll.
NBC is complaining that Fox News spent too much time on her story, and I may have to agree. I did not follow the story intensely, but I do wonder why so much interest was generated over what appears to be just another average college gal that was abducted. Am I missing something about her status that made her so newsworthy?

Laura D said...

Here's one for you. Michael Cohen said he did illegal campaign contributions "at the direction of a candidate for federal office." Everyone is assuming that he is referring to Trump. What if he is referring to the OTHER candidate - Hillary Clinton? Just some food for thought. :)

Fred Ciampi said...

I mentioned a while back on my facebook page that the military should perhaps treat illegals crossing the border as invaders. I was lambasted by many screaming liberals who called me many names, the kindest being 'heartless bastard'. If I hadn't already unfriended & blocked them I would send them the Mollie story. But then, to folks like that, it would make no difference. I thank God every day that we moved to a small town in the Appalachian Mountains (from San Francisco, no less) where the American flag flies every day and folks greet each other on the street. I also dread the day when my grand children are going to have to fight for the freedom that I now enjoy; or become slaves to the system that may come.

Oh, time for some Clan McMoonshine. I have some ageing since Tuesday.

RE: Tan O'clock News: YES! Even on not slow news days.

RE: Cohen and Manafort: The "other" media will be apoplectic no matter which way the court goes, or what the defendants MIGHT say until something else comes along, and that will be the worst thing ever that President Trump could possibly have done. It's getting very lame at this point.

RE: The murder of Mollie Tibbetts: Find a very tall pole somewhere near a known Illegal entry point and hang him from it. Leave his body there for the birds as a reminder that we do not take kindly to "black-outs."

Alfonso Bedoya said...

@Geoff King: The point is that Mollie Tibbetts was a poster child: innocent, with a promising future, and an all-around good person whose family will suffer forever. To have been murdered by yet another scumbag illegal was more than just "newsworthy." It again drives home the point that had immigration laws been strictly enforced in the first place, Mollie Tibbetts and countless others whose lives have been stolen by such illegals as MS-13 gang members would be alive today.

I hope that Iowa has death-penalty statutes in place, and that alleged murderer "Mr." Christhian Bahena Rivera is not sentenced to merely live the rest of his miserable existence at taxpayer expense in an Iowa prison. The New York Times (as do so many other publications and media outlets) does a disservice to its readers by labeling these rats "Mr." or "gentlemen."

Fish Out of Water said...

Yet another murder of an American citizen by someone who shouldn't have been in this country to begin with is heart-sickening. My own suggestion for punishment fitting the crime is, if the perp is found guilty, throw him in with the general population and then take bets on how long he lives.

That said however, there was two days ago, an interesting take on illegals in the WSJ column Best of the Web, which if it hasn't been read by all, would highly recommend reading it.

Jon said...

I wish I had 3 thumbs up to give to Out of the Mouths of Babes. Clever, insightful and just somehow very pleasant to read.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Section147- Amen to that.

@Ray- I'm quite familiar with Heaven Hill, though haven't consumed any in awhile. Then again, ALL alcohol is looking pretty good to be on news days like this one.

@j- You're right. I doubt any "news" outlet other than Fox News will give much attention to Mollie's killer. All of the others will be putting all of their time and effort into building a (fake) impeachment case against Trump.

@Jim G- When McRaven said to pull his own security clearance to show support for Brennan, his wish should have been granted within the hour. By the way, I think you've captured the very essence of Brennan when you call him a "Communist son of a bitch."

@Mike aka Proof- "Out of the Mouths of Babes" makes me chuckle because it's so transparently a thin excuse to post bikini pictures to distract from not having a lot of content for the day. Back when CD-ROMS were a new thing, I bought every royalty-free graphics collection I could find, including a disk of swimsuit models. It's taken me 20 years to find an actual use for the photos (grin).

@Karl Uppiano- Trust me, Busty will be back!

@OnTheTrumpTrain- By any reasonable standard, Hillary's crimes in the 2016 election are bigger, better documented, and more illegal than anything Trump is even accused of. The hypocrisy makes me gag.

@James Daily- Trump issuing blanket pardons makes sense as all the meaningful accusations are bogus, but doing so would be all the impetus the Dems need to start impeachment proceedings (assuming they pick up some seats in the midterm).

@OnTheTrumpTrain- Another commentator pointed out that virtually every candidate has "campaign finance violations" if investigators dig deep enough. In this case, Trump apparently ordered hush money paid to two women with whom he'd had consensual sex. His opponent, on the other hand, raised campaign funds by making it possible for Russia to buy 20% of America's uranium reserves. I know which "violation" bothers me more.

@Bobo the Hobo- "Tan O'Clock News" is, in thruth, a silly feature. But what the heck, we're all here for a laugh - right?

@Jim Irre- I expressed a similar opinion above, but you said it better.

@Geoff King- Along with "undocumented immigrant" are CNN and MSNBC also using the term "unliving American" to describe Mollie Tibbitts?

Regarding the amount of coverage her story generated, was NBC complaining about this before they learned the illegal status of the killer? Although I understand your point, as the father of a daughter I wince at the description of the story as "just another average college gal that was abducted." Something this morally abhorrent should always be a big story.

@Laura D- What a wonderful (albeit unlikely) possibility! I'm going to savor this fantasy for awhile...

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Fred Ciampi- Very well put. I understand people wanting to enter this country. I can not understand allowing it to happen in unchecked fashion with sky high costs to taxpayers (granted, there are fewer and fewer of us) and devastating cultural effects. I don't like to think about the world our grandchildren will live in. Fortunately, I can remind myself that I'm a pessimist rather than a psychic.

@M. Mitchell Marmel- It's all about attitude (grin).

@Murphy(AZ)- Your suggestion of hanging Tibbett's killer where other potential illegals can see the risks may seem harsh, but is it really worse than the signs put up by the Obama administration to warn American citizens away from certain areas in our country because they were basically surrendered to violent drug traffickers?

@Alfonso Bedoya- Very well put. Personally, I think the death penalty in these cases should be re-thought: executions can not be "cruel and unusual" which suggests that if we make the the punishment "cruel and usual" we're on solid ground. I think we need fewer syringes and more woodchippers.

@Fish Out of Water- I'll seek out the WSJ piece. I subscribe to the paper, but too frequently miss meaningful stories.

Some general ephus . . .

Haven't tried Heaven Hill (will have to look for it here in mid-TN), but I have developed a liking for Kilbeggan single grain Irish.

Wonder if Mollie Tibbets - may she rest in peace - is any relation to BGEN Paul Tibbets, USAF(RERT), command pilot of Enola Gay.

Perhaps it is time to return to the time between 1924 and 1965 when the (legal) immigration was -- ZERO.

Robert Heinlein had it right: in Beulahland (Farnham's Freehold or Beyond This Horizon [ CRS moment: can't remember which]). Punishment for a crime was to inflict on the perp exactly what said perp inflicted on his victim(s). Something to think about . . .

Geoff King said...

@ Alfonso Bedoya: I agree that Mollie being murdered by an illegal alien is newsworthy, but the story of her disapperance was extremely hyped before that fact was known. Many people are murdered daily, some also by illegal scumbags, with no press coverage at all.
Also, I looked it up and it seems that Iowa's former Governor Hughes, naturally a Democrat, abolished the Death Penalty way back in '65. However, there is currently a bill in the State House to reinstate it. The current Governor is a Rupublican, so it may have a chance.
At present 31 states still have the Death Penalty.
@ Stilton: I did not intend to trivialize her death, I merely wondered why so much attention was spent on her story when many other tragic deaths were ignored. Literally thousands of U.S. citizens have been killed by illegals. Where is their media coverage?

Out Of The Mouths of Babes....this should go without saying, but I'm already a big fan of this innovative commentary after the first edition.

Regarding Mollie Tibbets, what a horrible loss, one akin to the Kate Steinle abomination, and one which will be written off by the progs as merely "collateral damage" in our march to becoming a really, really large version of Venezuela. I mean, what the hell, America was never great anyway, right?

Want some bile with your coffee this morning? Watch this short clip of an "MSNBC contributor" refer to Mollie as "some girl from Iowa".

Manafort is no angel, so the verdict is no big surprise. I think it's too late for Mueller and his band of Democrat thugs to make Manafort sing. Isn't his fate in the judge's hands now?

Cohen, on the other hand, seems ready to not only sing, but compose like Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms combined. Betting Mueller is giddy with anticipation!

I too wondered why Mollie Tibbets being missing was front page news on the Fox website for a month. It's almost like they knew what the outcome would be. Weird.... Not that I'm not totally appalled by her fate. That Mexican scumbag deserves to spend a few months locked up in the Tibbets' basement, and the Tibbets family gets to do whatever the f**k they want to him during that time. Then put him on the pole by the border.

I heard on the radio this morning (KC O'Dea Show) that there are some Democrats trying to make hay that the wetback scumbag worked on a farm owned by a (gasp!) REPUBLICAN! So that means he's innocent, right? The evil Republican hired him, right? Knowing full well he was illegal, right?

In other disturbing, albeit local, news... Silent Sam, a Confederate stature on the UNC campus that has endured the never ending ire of moonbats for years, was finally torn down Monday night. Did UNC remove it? Nope. Did the NC gubmint remove it? Nope. An angry mob toppled it while school, local, county, and state authorities did nothing to stop them. This, according to what I learned in school years ago, is what's called anarchy. Citizens (and probably some non-citizens) doing anything illegal they want, without fear of punishment. It's just a statue, and I would have been fine if it was removed and put in a museum or something, but damn....

Colby Muenster said...

Regarding the murder of Mollie Tibbets, it does seem to have gotten more ink than usual. It makes a difference that she was white, pretty, and in a small Iowa town where such things aren't supposed to happen. Sometimes a story will just start rolling and for reasons unknown snowball. When the tiny Nebraska village of Pilger was hit by one of a pair of tornados four years ago, I think, it became national news because "half the city" had been destroyed. The story had legs and off and running before anyone figured out that half of Pilger is a literal handful of blocks. It also didn't hurt that every every storm chaser in the country was there and there were dozens of videos that made good TV. Two deaths pushed it into the "If it bleeds, it leeds" category.
Yesterday I was surprised that the story of Tibbets' body being found was on the lead page of the BBC News website. Later, I was absolutely astounded that the story had been updated with the news that an "undocumented immigrant" had been arrested. That's the kind of detail the BBC can be expected to leave out, no doubt for reasons of brevity.

Judi King said...

RE: Mollie....people missing that long are usually already dead. FNC seemed to keep up the hype so people would keeping looking for her. Legal or not that killer deserves the death penalty but Iowa doesn't have it.
As for the useful idiots called millennials who agree with the traitor, Gov. Cuomo, that America was never great, are free to go to another "greater" country. Where that is I couldn't say. These punks are SO clueless.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@John D Egbert- I like Heinlein, and the "eye for an eye" punishment system has appeal.

@Geoff King- Oh, I wasn't disagreeing with you, I was just venting. I think from time to time the media likes to focus on just one case because it's easy to report and sensationalize. The odds of this go way up if the victim is young, pretty, female, and white because today's media loves eye candy.

@TrickyRicky- The "some girl from Iowa" comment really chafes my rear end. How would that commentator like to hear Michael Brown's death described as that of "some boy from Missouri?" But no - the media cared enough about Brown to help set Ferguson on fire.

@H R Miller- Your suggestions have been duly noted (and met with favor).

@Anonymous- Busty Ross isn't going anywhere. She's her own special character with her own perspectives. But for delivering quick one-liners, the swimsuit gals seem to have struck a responsive chord.

@Sortahwitte- I'm not wildly happy about that gathering in Minnesota, but at the same time it says a lot about America that a gathering like that can take place, peacefully, because our nation is so generous with its freedoms. If Trump were really Hitler (as is so often the accusation), you wouldn't see these things happening.

@Fritz Brohn- Mrs. J has asked me to again emphasize that I am NOT the guy in the picture. Not that I look a helluva lot better...

@Mikey- I don't know about asking Miss Ross to appear in less bikini, but she looks singularly "healthy" in the standard model.

Your poll today is completely unnecessary but since voting is important: As long as you don't stop your other regular features: Yes Tan-O-Clock News is quite welcome. You are clearly beginning to understand the new media. As for the last beach scene: My God man, have you no limits?

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@MrBeatrixKiddo- Manafort got railroaded in the sense that no one would have looked into his past shenanigans were it not for his brief association with Trump. My feeling is if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

@Doug M- That's very reassuring to know (grin).

@MrBeatrixKiddo- Great point. And Obama's campaign had to pay more in FINES than Trump is accused of paying off his strumpets.

@NaCly Dog- Not much risk of my posting more old guys in speedos - I just wanted to remind the female readers here that I was taking them into consideration (grin).

@Colby Muenster- I definitely worry about Cohen more, in no small part because he's being "defended" (ha!) by Clintonista sleazebag Lanny Davis who is steering his client onto the rocks in an effort to get to Trump.

Regarding Mollie Tibbets, as I said above, I think Fox just kept the story in rotation because it was easy to report and emotionally evocative. And I like your suggestion for how the perp should be handled.

I, too, have heard that Dems are trying to make hay out of the allegation that the killer worked for a Republican. But I've also read that the killer was supposedly cleared by eVerify as being legal (during the Obama years). If that's true, I don't blame his employer, I blame the system that failed to do the one thing it was created to dol

Finally, regarding the stature...er, statue...of Silent Sam, I think this needs to be prosecuted quickly and severely. Politics be damned, this is anarchy and if you don't punish it you're encouraging it.

@Unknown- The Babes will probably be back. Even on bad news days, they tend to lighten things up a bit!d

@Bruce Bleu- Again, the picture was NOT me...though I can't honestly claim to look a lot better. I do, however, make a point of keeping myself covered. And that's not just because the court ordered me to do so.

@Velveeta Processed Cheese Food- Good points throughout.

@Judi King- I had about 2% hope that Mollie would be found alive. As you say, when victims meeting her description are gone very long, they're almost always found dead. And even though Iowa doesn't have a death penalty, I think an exception should be made for this scumbag.

Finally, Cuomo's quote that America was never great is infuriating but useful: it's the perfect reminder of why those on the Right need to hit the polls HARD on election day to prevent idiots like Cuomo from getting too much power.

@Rod- Oh, I have limits. But we haven't reached them yet (evil grin).

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Pete (Detroit)- You know, I could do worse than grabbing the domain name TanOClockNews.com. Hmmm...

We've been on vacation for the last week and blessedly disconnected from current events, so this really was a great way to re-immerse ones self into the news.

Muslims at rally chant "Allauh Akbar"? Is that even news?

Nicki Minaj equates herself to Harriet Tubman? What a simply AWESOME country and age we are living in, where a woman who is primarily known for shaking her body parts for profit is today's equivalent of someone who selflessly risked her life rescuing people from slavery. Another argument for dismantling affirmative action and the race grievance industries.

David Hogg, on "minute 16". Those "elderly Democrats" are also known as "adults". (Or at least the closest thing the Democrats have to any) And those adults now realize that instead of forwarding your agenda of gun confiscation, your antics have been selling NRA memberships and solidifying the Trump coalition. Please follow the trail of Cindy Sheehan and disappear. You've outlived your usefulness to Democrats.

Michael Cohen: Now represented by Clinton operative Lanny Davis and crowdfunding? This is going to get colorful. And I also predict that Mueller's investigation will still be going on in 2024.

Mollie Tibbetts: Didn't become aware of this until yesterday. Another illegal immigrant doing the work that too many American citizens are unwilling to do. (I wonder if Mollie has since reconsidered her virtue signalling)

And let me add one:

Judge denies motion to keep NM compound suspects jailed until trial

"State prosecutors' motion to detain five adults arrested after a raid in northern New Mexico earlier this month was denied by a judge on Monday. Judge Sarah Backus made the determination, saying the state failed to meet the burden of showing the suspects were a danger to the community..."

The dead body of a child found buried at a terrorist training camp, and this judge doesn't think any of these people are a "danger to the community".

Just what would this judge consider a "danger to the community"?

What do all these stories have in common? They'll be part of the package Trump will using against Democrats at the midterms and 2020. This is how you get more Trump.

John the Econ said...

The media and Mollie: Actually, the first media I saw about the murder was on the MSM, but only because they were highlighting the completely irrelevant fact that the illegal had been working at a meat processing facility owned by a Republican.

Never mind that the employer did the required "E-Verify" check on him. Unfortunately, obtaining bogus or stolen Social Security numbers and documents is simply too easy, and it's Democrats who stand in the way of resolving that problem because, well, from their point of view everything is working just as they want it to be.

And then I learned about this one, filed under "Progressivism is a mental disorder":

AMERICAN COUPLE DIES TRAGICALLY WHILE BIKING THROUGH ISIS TERRITORY TRYING TO PROVE EVIL DOES NOT EXIST

In one post, Austin — who is a vegan — said he worked for the Department of Housing and Urban Development during Obama’s presidency explained how he and his girlfriend were planning to bike around the world with hopes to meet “generous” and approachable people.

“I don’t buy it. Evil is a make-believe concept we’ve invented to deal with the complexities of fellow humans holding values and beliefs and perspectives different than our own—it’s easier to dismiss an opinion as abhorrent than strive to understand it. Badness exists, sure, but even that’s quite rare. By and large, humans are kind. Self-interested sometimes, myopic sometimes, but kind. Generous and wonderful and kind. No greater revelation has come from our journey than this.”

Imagine that, they were literally killed by a "make-believe concept". No wonder they're so determined to kill "hate speech" and the Internet. If had only eradicated imaginary hate and violence, then they'd still be alive today.

@joe jetson- You're right that none of this has anything to do with Russia or collusion, even though Cohen's Clintonista lawyer, Lanny Davis, is trying to make it sound that way. What a bastard.

@Anonymous- I'd bet anything that Mueller is doing exactly that.

@Gee M- There should be crickets, but instead we're hearing a cacophony of nonsense. The media has embraced the idea that "if Trump is guilty of anything, he's guilty of everything!" So what may be a campaign finance infraction (far smaller than those of Hillary, Obama, and others) is suddenly being touted as a sure sign that Trump will soon be impeached. It's a lie, but if the media repeats it long enough and loudly enough, it will still do damage.

@Prarie Lion- I'd really considered the "Babes" feature as a one-off, but what the heck. It will almost surely be back from time to time now that it's gotten a nice reception.

@John the Econ- You are right, right, right on all your comments. I'll just jump in to also agree with your sentiments regarding the terrorist training camp, the tortured kids, and the Judge who doesn't find any of this a "danger to the community." I'm speechless.

And good points about the E-Verify system which, clearly, doesn't always work. Assuming it ever works. It seems to me that there have been multiple efforts to add biometrics to the current process in order to make it harder, if not impossible, to use faked or stolen identity documents. As you say, the Dems have successfully fought that so far.

@Colby Muenster- I completely agree. Seeing statues from confederate times should give us all something to stop and think about. Here's the thing these morons don't seem to understand: you can't really destroy just a part of history. By trying to, you end up destroying history in general...which also means you're destroying your ability to navigate the future intelligently.

@CC- I do trust you.

@Unknown (C'mon, Frenchy, we know it's you!)- So glad you're back home after that surgery, and hope your recovery goes quickly. That's a tough surgery but you've got a great attitude. So hopefully I'm not pushing my luck by suggesting this particular Youtube video in hopes that laughter really is the best medicine!

@John the Econ- I'm pretty sure that treating Evil as a "make believe concept" only works if everyone has gotten the memo.

I seriously doubt there will be too many detractors against the Tan o'clock news. Bring it on!
