Blown Away

stilton’s place, stilton, political, humor, conservative, cartoons, jokes, hope n’ change, hurricane, florence, weather channel, fake news, trump, MSNBC
Liberal media is pretty much the definition of "an ill wind that totally blows."
By now, everyone has seen the infamous bit of video footage in which a Weather Channel reporter struggles to stay on his feet while braving the apocalyptic winds of Hurricane Florence, unaware that two guys casually strolling by in the background completely reveal the on-air (no pun intended) fakery.

It's pretty funny until one thinks about what a perfect visual metaphor it is for the way every news story seems to be reported these days. Everything is an emergency and looming disaster. Everything is a grave risk to our freedoms and our way of life. And everything depends on paying very, very close attention to the hyperventilating talking heads rather than what we can see with our own eyes in the background.

Every news outlet is guilty of this theatrical charade (yes, even Fox News) although no one can beat the Lefties for sheer hysteria and generating their own gale force winds. Is it merely a coincidence that the longtime slogan of MSNBC was "Leaning Forward?" We think not.  And frankly, Hurricane Donald isn't really helping the situation any.

Stilton's Place would like to see the journalistic histrionics turned way the heck down (tranquilizer darts are not out of the question) to decrease the dangerous and deliberate agitation currently polarizing our country.

Trust us, news media, when we say that contrary to Bob Dylan's admonition, the answer is not blowin' in the wind.

Welcome back Stilton. I understand you were moving. I'm planning on dying where I am now so I never have to do it again. Years ago, I could put everything I owned into a 4-door sedan. Now everything I own fills a straight truck, but the stuff I actually use and/or remember I have would still go in a car.

In my part of the world, nobody seems to exercised over the news. They just go about their business, which takes up most of their time. I suspect that is the case most places. The Swamp/Media complex gets exercised, but they only talk to each other.

There's another piece of trickery with a weather reporter interviewing a lady while they're both chest deep in water. A picture posted on-line shows the whole scene viewed from behind the camera crew standing in ankle deep water while filming the scene from ten feet away. Turns out that the two clucks were standing in a ditch under water to simulate flooding. Should get them an Emmy nomination for special effects.....

And the cruelest blow of all, no one was killed. No screaming headlines about a government failure to protect its citizens against an act of God, or any chest thumping about that Trump person. Puns completely intended.

When I lived in Simi Valley, Californicate, we used to experience the "Santa Ana" winds. Although I do admit, you've got to go pretty far to surpass the "winds" of a leftist's bloviating, when you ride your motorcycle 75mph and get NO wind in your face it is quite an eerie thing. Ever since then, when I hear reports of "high winds" I recall when the wind was to my side instead of behind and remember how the bike tilted 15 degrees at ground level but didn't come close to killing me. It was the genesis of my weather "bull-shit-o-meter" and how William Shatner could not have seen what he did outside that window on the airplane.

I'm glad that I'm old enough to remember when news was reported 'as is'. With the exception of walter cronkite of course. My first introduction to fake news was good old walter's reporting of the Vietnam War. I had already done my tour of duty in the Corps before the shooting started but I had a lot of friends whom I still kept in contact with and right from the beginning I knew that he was telling lies. And with little exception the lies haven't stopped.

Who could have foretold that Laugh In's segment of "Laugh In Looks At The News" would come true 50 years later.

And, where I live in Hillybillyland was forecast to have 30 inches of rain. I had nightmares of trying to put 20 tons of gravel back onto my driveway. HAH! We barely got one half of an inch of rain, thank goodness.

Welcome back Stilton. It should be an interesting week in the hyperbolic media "Kavanaugh Is The Devil!" whirlwind. Can't wait for your take on Wednesday.

The news has become a theater event staged for our edification. We mere simpletons are to accept what we are shown without question.

I tend to think that the proliferation of news sources has brought the veracity of the news into question. Used to be there were 3 news sources. Now there are thousands. Supposedly, the lure for viewership is based on political bent along with sensationalism.

PT Barnum would be proud.

Geoff King said...

So, Cristine Ford claims that Kavanaugh sexually groped her when they were teenagers 35 years ago, and the only supposed witness of the event denies that it ever happened.
Hmmmm, any chance that her accusation has political motivation?
Also, if this occured when she was 15 and he was 17, doesn't that mean they were both minors and it cannot be listed on his permanent adult record?
Bill Clinton actually raped women as an adult, lied under oath about it, and got re-elected anyway. Gimme a break.

It’s sickening that BK is subjected to these attacks; unverifiable, ancient history. I wonder how many Senators of both genders would be squirming if their past was brought to light? How many sexual crimes was Bill Clinton accused of, and the media mostly ignored it while the feminists rushed to his defense. And then there were the Kennedy brothers. If I correctly recall, weren’t two boys from the Kennedy family tried for some “groping” on a FL beach? Ted paid the bills if I recall. Even after Chappaquidick Ted was re-elected how many times? As usual, Geoff King’s summary says it all.

@Velveeta Processed Cheese Food- Actually I was helping my daughter move (and having an exciting "adventure in moving" with a U-haul). After all the remodeling I've put into our current house, I don't plan to move anywhere at any time for any reason.

And you're right that the healthiest way to live these days might be by ignoring the "news." I can't think of the last time that any hyperbolic story actually had an impact on my life (other than causing stress).

@Regnad Kcin- Another favorite of mine had a female reporter paddling a canoe when a couple of guys in waders stroll past, showing the raging flood waters to be little more than ankle deep. This particular gaffe was on the Today Show.

@Sandra J. Brown- Sadly, a few people were killed, and the trouble isn't over. But your point is still accurate: the media was praying for a real human disaster and high body count that they could pin on Donald Trump.

@Bruce Bleu- There is a spot on Oahu, Hawaii near the Pali Lookout where the mountains channel the winds perfectly, and if you stand in the "sweet spot" it will likely knock you off your feet (unless, like me, you're carrying a lot of ballast). As far as what William Shatner saw, Snopes.com says that wing gremlins aren't affected by wind.

@Fred Ciampi- As a kid, I remember the Huntley/Brinkley report being dry as melba toast (which I mean as praise). Now we've got shrieking harpies wearing tampon earrings while giving the "news."

And glad that you didn't get washed away by Florence!

@Emmentaler Limburger- I actually give more credibility to reporters (male and female) who don't look like models. I assume they may have been hired for actual skill.

@M. Mitchell Marmel- I think we should update that saying: "If it bleeds, it leads. If it doesn't bleed, stab it."

@Edam Wensleydale- (Love your name!) Excellent point.

@FlyBoy- Dang, now I'm going to have to play that song! Henley does some great stuff, and that's one of my favorites. "Kick 'em when they're up, Kick 'em when they're down..."

@TrickyRicky- In the cartoon, I wasn't kidding about the fact that Kavanaugh produced documentation from 65 women who knew him in high cchool and attested to his character, and Lefties saying such popularity proves he's a lying sociopath who has everyone fooled (and has since high school). They are genuinely sick bastards.

That being said, I don't know what to make of the current accusation against Kavanaugh. Is the woman lying? She seems to have some documentation of an "incident" going back years before now. If it happened, was it Kavanaugh? Was it serious, or just stupid? And should a teenager's drunken act ruin the rest of his (exemplary) life? I don't have the answers, but my inclination is to give Kavanaugh the nod because he is demonstrably not a threat to women.

@Glenda T Goode- An optimist would think the availability of thousands of news sources would translate into the "truth" getting through to the masses. But a realist knows better: it just encourages people to seek out confirmation bias of what they already think. And yes, there's a PT Barnum element to always keeping the suckers hooked.

Fritzchen said...

Stilt, I'm old enough to remember when the national and world news on TV was 15 minutes with John Cameron Swayze!

Stinking Bishop said...

Stilton,

The only documentation this woman has are therapy notes from *2012*. Note the year; there apparently was an article in the New Yorker discussing SC picks by Romney, and, lo and behold, Mr. Kavanaugh was among them.

Also, Gateway Pundit has followed up on the "Rate My Professor" website, and former students of this woman were pretty unsparing in criticism of her. So she may not be all there.

On the other hand, "Brett Kavanaugh" is anagrammed as "Hank Ravage-Butt". So, obviously guilty.

John the Econ said...

Friday afternoon I was having a conversation with a young local news producer working on a hurricane-related story when she brought up the Weather Channel snafu, which I was not yet aware of. She said something that I would not have expected of a young person working in TV news: "Our job is hard enough without idiots like that creating more fake news."

I have no idea what the politics of this young woman are, but with like most young people in media I can only assume that they're at least left-of-center. But I was encouraged that there was at least a sense of integrity there and I can only hope it survives the beatdown it's going to continuously get as she progresses through her career.

The Metaphor: Another brilliant observation @Stilton, comparing the pantomime theater put on by the Weather Channel to the post November 2016 media; the reporter symbolizing what's going on inside the Progressive echo chamber while the guys in the background are strolling through real life.

So Very Kerry: So while Democrats cheer Mueller who continues to find absolutely no evidence of "collusion" outside of the DNC, Hillary campaign, and the Clinton Foundation, we have a former secretary of state transparently conducing actual collusion, and nobody cares! If ever there was perfect test case for the Logan Act, this is it. Will someone please shake Jeff Sessions out of his nap and get him on this?

The Kavanaugh Circus: So DiFi, who needs to go to any and all lengths to keep people's attention off the fact that she had an agent of the Chinese Communists working on her staff for nearly two decades, drops a letter she's been sitting on since July about some woman who via her marriage counselor's notes regarding repressed memories accuses Kavanaugh of being drunk and gropey during a party in high school.

This is the level of beclownment that the Democrats now bring to the Senate; garbage that producers of the Jerry Springer or Maury Povich shows would have rejected as simply too insipid, unbelievable, and juvenile.

If this is successful and becomes the standard by which we reject appointees, it will become impossible to ever again successfully nominate any conservative. No worthwhile candidate will every allow their names to be submitted, and those who do will be pilloried with the most outrageous imagined and unprovable allegations. I've already seen it written that should this work, Republicans should vow never to allow another Democrat to ever be appointed. I wish they had the balls to follow through with that. The Democrats know they don't.

But should the Kavanaugh standard succeed, when will we see it applied to the Democrats? For example, #2 (in more ways than one) Democrat Kieth Ellison currently stands accused (credibly, and not via "repressed for 40 years" memories) of abusing several women, and nobody seems to care. Is it because he's a Muslim and in Islam beating women is excusable, or is it because the Democratic Party is a complete fraud on women's issues outside of conservatives and abortion?

The Blue Wave: Remember, these people talking about "The Blue Wave" are the very same people who assumed that Hillary was inevitable. The only blue wave I've seen lately is the one that swirls down the toilet bowl.

There's a lot of bending over going on these days. Fortunately, for the first time in a long time, it's not conservatives who have been made to do the bending.

@Velveeta Processed Cheese Food, 4 years ago this week Mrs. Econ & I were preparing for a move across country. After that whole experience was over and done with, I told Mrs. Econ that she'd better be happy here, because when I move out of where we are now, it's going to be in a pine box.

Exorcised over the news: Most people are that way. We've got real lives to live. Can the Democrats keep this tuned up to level-11 for the next 2 years, and will it result in votes for Democrats or Republicans? I'm betting the latter, either way. Unless, of course, the GOP gets even dumber than usual, which is always a very real possibility, if not likely.

@Regnad Kcin, you are aware that Anderson Cooper got caught doing that? Snopes added to the belownment by actually justifying it.

Dave N.: What ever happened to Gloria Stienem's "the first grope is free" standard? Oh yeah, that's only for Democrats. I think we'd all love to see the "Kavanaugh Standard" objectively applied to the Senate.

I would have to ask Ms. Ford.....Why would you go into a bedroom with 2 horny teenage boys, reportedly drunk over thirty five years ago, in the first place?????????????? Was she really that stupid? Or, did she think this was a cool thing to do? Why is the boy/man always presumed guilty? Why aren't some of these "women" sued for libel, slander, defamation of character? Why, why, why? This is over the top ridiculous.

@Geoff King- If the incident happened as she described, about which I have real doubts, then she has my sincere sympathy. But that act should not forever define and stigmatize a man who has demonstrated exceptional character and ability. @Rod- Didn't mean to leave you hanging! Glad to be back!

@Dave N- As John the Econ may well point out, Bill Clinton has effectively destroyed the Dems' ability to feign outrage at sexual behavior. And as you point out, Slick Willy has a lot of company on that side of the aisle.

@John the Econ,
Mrs. Muenster and I saw that clip of Anderson Pooper Saturday. She put it on her Facebook, and the libtards lit it up. It was like pulling the string on a Barbie Doll; you know exactly what she's going to say! "He was just trying to show how bad flooding could be." Really? No, dumbass, he was trying to glorify himself, pure and simple. A smart person would never wade that deep into REAL flood waters, which, when you think about it, makes Anderson Pooper a danger to other human beings, leading them to believe what he was doing was somehow safe. What a turd...

Kavanagh's supposed sexual assault...
When I was a teenage boy, I was pretty shy around girls, but had friends who would jump at every opportunity to grab and grope. Brett Kavanagh may well have had the same kind of friend, and Christine Ford blamed both for the actions of one? Who knows, but damn, it was a looooong time ago, and show me ANY teenager who doesn't do stupid things. Not only that, apparently that hag, Diane Feinstein has been sitting on this for months, waiting to spring it at just the right moment. As Daffy Duck would say, despicable! If Brett Kavanagh was such a horrible person, why not let everyone know as soon as possible?

It seems that this is a repressed memory dredged up by a psych sometime around 2012 ; therapy can work wonders, huh?
Nowadays #metoo has the power; no one's unrepressed memory (with witnesses) has any chance of being given any credibility over recovered from deep within, closed session, unprovable pschobabble assault memories...

One day, I recieved a call from a HPD police Detective...
it seems that my daughter (now 16 yo) was taken by her Mother to a pschologist who bless her psycho heart was able to recover beaucoup repressed memories of the time she spent summers with me and I perpetrated heinous acts upon my 5,6, and 7 year old darlin baby girl! Horriffic things, from making her roam the apt naked to forcing her to watch porn! I can't be more specific, because the accusations are just too creepy.
Now, I have a pretty clear memory of that period, and there was a great deal of Dora, Barbie, and the Bratz movies...Disney Channel was omnipresent, PBS as well (Dragon Tales, etc). Nothing racier than Harry Potter or Home Alone.
My memory has always been pretty good, from way back to my kiddie days til now.
But...never again will I have those happy memories of summers with my baby girl...some nutcase has turned it all to shit. None of that weird stuff happened.
I recognise the exact same system that has put innocent men in prison for years, and ruined families; that could very well scar Judge Kavanaugh's children, and besmirch his lifetime of moral high ground...all by simply claiming formerly repressed #meetoo memories that can't be proven false in any kind of useful time frame.
Being a victim of false accusations and being completely innocent, I can feel the horror Judge Kavanaugh must be feeling more and more as credence is being given more and more to perfectly timed, recently remembered, repressed memories.
That only a moron or a Demotard would actually believe.

The ONLY thing that rings true about this is that teen girls, at parties w/ teen boys, may get groped. They may like it, they may not, they might THINK they'll like it, until they DON'T, and boys who've been drinking are going to be more aggressive. Not saying that's "Ok" but I suspect it's been more or less 'normal' for about 10,000 years.
I simply can't imagine her NOT telling her friend / who ever she knew at the party, (what, she was there, and didn't know ANYONE?) and / or her friends at school... "That Kavanaugh DICK was on me like an octopus!!! Stay the HELL away from HIM"
Just Not Buying It.
And, assuming it *IS* true - who gives a crap? "Drunk Teen cops a feel at a party" This is news? Again, not saying it's "Ok" (Boundaries, 'no means no', and all that) but this is before ANY of that, and if not 'normal' was hardly unusual...

And, as everyone has pointed out, the foul stench of selective outrage rapidly grows offensive, if not tedious..

The incident is a classic fuzzy memory case, brought out in couples therapy in 2012; first 4 boys were doing the deed, but then there were 4 boys TOTAL at the house and 2 got on her but don't ask her for details...everything but Brett is too fuzzy to remember.

@Colby Muenster, fortunately, as a mature adult, names have very little effect on me. I've literally been called a "Nazi" for all of my adult life for no better reason than because Progressives find it impossible to debate most topics with me without eventually doing so.

For example, one can express support for Jews in Israel and yet be called a "Nazi" for doing so by people who side with those who actually collaborated with actual Nazis.

So clearly it's not about intellect or logic or any particular understanding of history or political terms.

It's about emotion.

Intellectually, Progressivism inevitably and ironically devolves to regressivism because it demands little use of the analytical capabilities of the brain. The brain is like any other muscle; if it's not exercised regularly, it will atrophy. And since the election of Trump, that's definitely what has been showing.

Every so often when I really want to make a point to a marginally-hinged Progressive, I'll drop this truth bomb: What is the primary difference between human beings and the animal kingdom? It's that human beings have been endowed with an intellect that can supersede their emotional impulses.

At least some of us, anyway. The primates throw feces when upset.

Ultimately, Progressivism is de-evolutionary.

Kavanaugh Update: So it looks like Kavanaugh's accuser who's memories are dependent upon some marriage counselor's notes about repressed memories isn't going to testify. So this is nothing more than just a drive-by character assassination.

If the GOP let's themselves get rolled by this level of fraud, then it will officially be impossible to nominate any worthwhile jurist ever again. In the future, the Democrats will have absolutely no problem finding people to be queued to play victims to be sprung the day before any confirmation vote. There will be no need for evidence or collaboration. They won't even need to show up to face the accused. They'll just need a good story that enough of the de-evolutionized feces flingers will buy into and that will be it. We'll just have a government full of vacancies until the Democrats are in power again.

What the GOP should do is say "If the FBI and Senator Feinstein took these allegations the least bit seriously, why weren't they brought up months ago when they first obtained them? If they didn't take them seriously enough back then, then neither should we."

Hey GOP, grow some balls, or else you're going to get replaced with something worse that Trump.
