Flight Risk

stilton’s place, stilton, political, humor, conservative, cartoons, jokes, hope n’ change, trump, hillary, electrion, woodward, fear, NYT, chaos
Yes, we know Trump doesn't actually drink. For which we are deeply grateful.
According to Bob Woodward's new tell-all book "Fear" and a recent New York Times op-ed which was allegedly written by "an anonymous White House official who we are totally not making up," President Donald Trump is an egotistical, mercurial boob who requires constant supervision by others to stave off disaster.

Yawn.

The accounts may or may not be 100% accurate, but we don't care - other than having a constant undercurrent of mild terror. Because many of us who voted for Trump, however reluctantly, knew all of this about him going in. We weren't really happy about giving the country's reins to a man whose thought process can be likened to a pinball machine, but the only other choice was inconceivably worse.

Going back to our cartoon metaphor, our plane was already in serious trouble and going down fast. Hillary Clinton would put us into a nose dive at maximum throttle, then cackle hysterically (when not coughing) all the way down to our fiery doom.

Trump, on the other hand, might seem to have a screw loose - but he had a record of somehow getting things accomplished and seemed sincere in his desire to save the day. And unlike Hillary's kamikaze scenario, Trump wouldn't be alone in the cockpit - he'd actually have a trained co-pilot, flight engineer, navigator, and others to help compensate for his inexperience and eccentricities.

Which brings us to the present. Woodward and the New York Times are reporting that dedicated White House staffers are working constantly to defuse Trump's bad ideas and help enable his good ideas - which is why this amateur President keeps racking up success after success.

In other words, we're seeing a scary process that produces good results rather than what, under Hillary, would have been a nightmarishly efficient process producing devastating results.

That doesn't strike us as being an entirely bad thing. Especially if the in-flight turbulence doesn't get bad enough to keep the flight attendant from rolling that drink cart our way on a regular basis.

Isn't Woodward the guy who claimed to have interviewed William Casey when he was in a coma?

True—Trump has never had a drink. Plus, I don’t think Trump could have built an international empire and been so successful in business if he was anywhere near the loose cannon he is always portrayed to be.

I'm calling B.S. on this White House "Anonymous" source. He/she claimed they took materials away from Trump's desk to make sure he did not act on them. Kind of like hiding the keys to the kingdom.

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of cameras and 24/7 monitoring of what goes on in that office. Pretty sure there is a record of who attended and was inside that office. This person must be sneaky-sneaky to get away with that, under all those eyes.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if it was Trump all along who wrote this ? Getting the media's hopes up (We got him now !). Be pretty hard keeping a straight face.

As Monty Burns would put it, 'Excellent!'

Have a neighbor nearby, an otherwise solid conservative, but he hates Trump because Trump does not act 'Presidential'. Does that mean we should expect our Presidents to sh$t pure alabaster marble while in the Oval Office? Also believe it's no accident that a portrait of Andrew Jackson now hangs in the Oval Office as well, so take your cue from that s to what to expect.

But, I will also say Trump has yet to be tested with a major foreign policy crisis (yeah he met Kim, but what has that led to?) as Bush II had to, which gives as I see it,Trump much more latitude to deal with domestic issues, latitude Bush II did not have.

Bob Woodward? Just another one trick pony whos still stuck in the '70's. His book will slowly find its was on to the discount shelf as did the 'book' written recently by one of the vilest, corrupt and pathological public figures in recent memory.

On another note, the great "progressive' hope in Delaware failed to deliver an upset. What is not covered in the post-election analysis is that unlike Mass and NYC, Delaware is a very different animal. While the long ago discredited intellectual garage this challenger pedaled might have some traction around Wilmington and other areas of the state close to Penn/Philly, the rest of the state doesn't buy that stuff. And from what I've been told, the Biden's have a very firm grip on the state democratic machinery as well.

"The cockpit? That's the little room up front where the pilots sit, but that's not important..."

I like the metaphor of the drunk verses the kamikaze. I like that metaphor a lot better as we cruise along with Cap'n Happy at the controls rather than being part of the crater that Felony Von Pantsuit would have dug long before now.

Or as Ron White put it when his seat mate worried if their plane would actually make it with just one engine...

"Yep, it'll get us all the way to the crash site."
(or mumbling s to that effect, which explains why people pay lots of money to listen to him and I just get to bore people in comments that run on entirely too long).

Or as I like to say "to make a long story short"...HeeHeeHee

Experience? Not a single one has had presidential experience except for Trump. He has been CEO of many companies. Hillary had experience killing many people and Ambassadors; obama just had his "Community Organizer" days (Senator didnt count because he voted "present" most of the time & this was just a quick stepping stone to the presidency." Trump is the ONLY one with Leadership skills because he has been a Leader. Act Presidential? I dont care, as long as hes getting results. I knew he wasnt going to bow down to the Swamp Elites.

Fred Ciampi said...

How does one 'act presidential'? "I didn't hear a 'harrumph' from you. Let me hear a 'harrumph'."

President Donald J. Trump's record speaks for itself.

Evidently to "ACT presidential" one must only read directly from the teleprompter programmed by your handlers. Not to mention pretending to be everyone's friend and kissing as many babies as possible.

One of the key principles of negotiating is "keep your opponent off balance." DJT wrote the book on negotiation and understands it perfectly. He's unpredictable, savvy, and very aware of what he's doing. He only looks like a loose cannon to others; he knows what he's doing and doing it well. Not unlike turning the lights off during a poker game, upsetting the table and grabbing the pot, he doesn't mind pissing people off to get what he wants. And what he wants is MAGA. MUCH to the chagrin, disappointment and frustration of the hypocritical hysterical ignorant myrmidons lurking in the swamp, universities and coastal elite cities, he's getting it. Pass the popcorn. I'll have a beer, too.

Trump has pulled back the veil and is exposing the rampant corruption and the players who are ruining the country to those who bother to pay attention. They are terrified of him, and will stop at nothing to bring him down and send a message to any other patriot who has ideas of entering public service: "Do it and we will DESTROY you, your family, your friends, and your supporters". He is amazingly presidential because he has guts, he loves his country, and he works doggedly toward his goals. He's less crass than his opponents. If he has been unfaithful to Melania, I'm very sorry about that and I hope their marriage survives it. But to hear the DC crew preach about 'morality' and 'character' makes me sick. I've lived in the DC area for most of my life, and my husband worked for ABC news for 10 years as a tech, covering the White House and Capital Hill - even then the stuff that Congressmen were doing (and covered up) was shocking. They are a bunch of hypocrites. Anything they accuse someone else of is what they are doing themselves. Trumps ideas are the reason I voted for him, he's no fool as proved by his accomplishments as a developer, as a campaigner, and as a president. He's doing an amazing job considering the mess Obama left him and all the subversives planted in the government trying to bring him down. Thank you, God, for President Trump!

After years of telling us that we're all unhinged conspiracy nuts for believing so, we really should be thanking the New York Times for finally confirming once and for all that there is, in fact, a "deep state" working in the background at all levels of the federal government to impede the will of elected officials who don't share enthusiasm for totalitarian government.

And that the New York Times is the undisputed official mouthpiece of the deep state.

Great stuff here today (as usual), but a special tip of the Muenster hat to MSG Grumpy for calling Shrillary "Felony Von Pantsuit!" Yes, folks, whether it be by design or by pure chance, we are on a hell of a ride from our POTUS. I honestly think he knows exactly what he's doing, and in retrospect, what did we expect when he threatened to drain the swamp? The swamp's been around a long, long time, and it don't WANT to be drained.

@Fred Ciampi,
Harrumph indeed! What, after all, is "acting presidential?" When Hitler was methodically taking over Europe, British PM Chamberlain acted a LOT like "presidential" Barack Obama, perfectly happy to capitulate to the Nazi's rather than put up a fight. Along came "un-presidential" Churchill to show the world what a real man was like. Hitler eventually wound up cowering in a bunker committing suicide (granted, Churchill DID have a bit of help from us Yanks).

Why does Bob Woodward only write damaging books about Republican presidents?

What is presidential? Mouthing words written by a consultant, which had been poll tested and focus grouped? To our moderator. No doubt you've read about the worst electoral mistake since the peanut farmer frm Plains, Ga, hitting the mid-term campaign trail and is doubling down on the 'bitter clinging' and 'deplorables' rhetoric. Seems ample material for a Hope 'n Change redux strip on Monday.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Readers- Once again you're way ahead of me, so I'll just have to make a general response rather than address individual comments - all of which have been spectacular!

I'll note that I'm well aware that Trump doesn't drink (and thank Heaven for that) but went there because I think the "drunk vs kamikaze" metaphor really works.

A number of folks have suggested that Trump isn't really wacky, but is rather playing 4th dimensional chess or Jedi mind tricks or is just too brilliant for mere mortals to figure out. While I wish this were true, I've also heard him speak (and Tweet) enough to be pretty convinced that not all of his wiring is up to code. But he's still getting a lot of great things accomplished and, as a bonus, giving aneurysms to the Left - so I say "carry on, Mr. President."

Anonymous White Male said...

"Which brings us to the present. Woodward and the New York Times are reporting that dedicated White House staffers are working constantly to defuse Trump's bad ideas and help enable his good ideas - which is why this amateur President keeps racking up success after success."

If the White House staffs, that care, oh so much for our country, are doing this, then what was Obama's excuse for racking up failure after failure?

A little off topic, well, a lot off topic but... I have a lot of respect for the opinions of Mr. Cheese and so on his advice I bought a bottle of Clan McGregor scotch whiskey and I have to say that, now I know why his left hand is trying to kill him in his sleep. That is without doubt the worst rot-gut evah. It has the bouquet of embalming fluid and goes down like swallowing a ball of steel wool and it even leaves an oily, 10w-30 after-taste in it's passing. I've heard it said that in Hell, it's always happy hour, but all they have is warm cream soda, to that I'd add, warm cream soda and Clan McGregor.
