Wishful Drinking / Thanksgiving

stilton’s place, stilton, political, humor, conservative, cartoons, jokes, hope n’ change, thanksgiving, 2018, johnny optimism

Actually, even if we DO get the wishbone this year (unlikely, since we zero in on the turkey wings) we wouldn't make the wish above. Rather, we'd make a wish to do away with liberalism, thereby getting everyone on the same page about doing good for others, rather than just whining that someone else should be forced to do good for others.

But hopefully, politics won't even come up at our Thanksgiving gathering or yours. Because even if there's no one at the table wearing a pussy hat, political discussion will do nothing to improve the meal or the day - and will in fact distract from the very important business of giving thanks. If you must argue about something, let it be about something relevant to the day - like whether or not oysters belong in stuffing (spoiler alert: they don't. Oysters belong in a tightly-wrapped Kleenex.)

Here in the Jarlsberg family, we have a lot to be thankful for this year. Daughter J got a great new place to live and an outstanding new job working with kids, which she has an absolute gift for. She's doing great.

The whole family is in reasonably good health (hey, you can't expect perfection from old people), and we have friends (including you!), extended family, and a Good Dog.

Let's see, we're also thankful that at least a little of our retirement account wasn't in high-tech stocks, since they've been the Acupulco cliff divers of our portfolio lately. Landing on the rocks, for that matter, their screams cut short by splatters.

Oops, sorry - we lost our gratitude thread there for a moment. Where were we? Oh yeah...

We remain deeply grateful for this wonderful country, and the military personnel (present and past) who've secured our liberties. We similarly give thanks to the first responders who put their lives on the line for all of us every day, especially in times of huge national disasters.

We can't say that we're thankful for every ill-formed thought that pops out of the President's mouth, but can say that we remain thankful - and delighted - that his words continue to cause absolute agony to those on the Left. And yes, we're saying that with a rakish grin.

Here's hoping that you all enjoy whatever Thanksgiving festivities, traditions, or observances you take part in - however large or small. The act of taking time to think about our many blessings and express gratitude is a great antidote to the transitory annoyances of the daily news.

And just to close things out, here's a little dose of perspective from our dear friend Johnny Optimism...

NOTE: There won't be a new post on Friday, because we're going to be chilling. Or perhaps elbowing our way through the crowds at the doorbuster sales. Either way, we'll be back Monday!

Thank you all for the rakish grins, the snide comments, the frank discussion, and for bringing some sanity to an otherwise mad, mad, mad, mad world! Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!

Someone forgot to mention "Busty Ross" this Thanksgiving... (big grin)

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.
Don't forget to remember and give "thanks" to First Responders, Fire crews, and our Service members in harms way.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

Take care, be safe.
God bless.

I want to give thanks for all you guys. You've been an enormous help in my time of need, and Stilton has delivered badly needed laughs as well! Happy Thanksgiving from me, Fortescue J. Gi-raffe and the kittehs!

Happy Thanksgiving, and may you have even more to give thanks for between now and the next Thanksgiving. (And beyond that, of course.)

Happy Thanksgiving to all the board and beyond to those who are not regulars. It is a great, one of my best blessing to find like minded folks. The Ms and myself seem to be blessed with good health in our mid seventies (the doc-doc says I have great health on paper). Meanwhile transfer the stuffed turkey to stuff yourself, especially with the gorgeous left-overs which are an addition treat. Enjoy the family the most. God bless our warriors in foreign lands and those here trying not to make this country a foreign land.

I see that President Trump pardoned a WHITE turkey this year. Prepare for the racial slurs from the left.

To be honest about it we are exceeding blessed & we know it; but also realize this has been a tough year and I'm glad to have some of it behind us. Even better: We're wrapping it up with several very good things and looking forward with anticipation. Thanks to you all for the 'toons, & laughs & commentary along the way which have been like rest stops all year.

Happy Thanksgiving to my extended internet family of rational, conservative, freedom loving, and humorous patriots who frequent this blog. Especially, thanks to Stilton for his incredible imagination and funny, funny observations regarding events that are otherwise quite blood curdling. We are blessed to live in the most free, most prosperous country in the history of the world, and I think we all realize that. Blessings to all.

I to wish to thank Stilton for his witty comments and observations and to all that show up here three times a week for their retorts.

I like many here are blessed beyond belief and I just wished I took the time on a regular basis to remember this and be thankful more often.

I also with to thank all of our service members and first responders no matter what type. Thank you for protecting/saving us when we do fairly stupid things.

As to fighting through the black Friday crowds isn't that what tasers were developed for? Just kidding(well kind of).

See all of you after the holiday and be safe in your travels.

Today's message was spot on Doc. Wonder how many millions would give an appendage to live in the USA. If I had any more
to be thankful for, I'd be twins. Enjoy a most peaceful break and gift us some more on Monday. One of your friends and admirers.

Happy Thanksgiving from the South, ya'll. Hope your blessings are many and your troubles are not. Stuff your self with whatever holiday meal is your choice, at least try to tolerate your relatives if you don't like them (I'll be having a helping of that this year in between the ones I really want to see) and try to be careful around the crazy sales this year. My daughter in law swears she just goes to see the crazy, but sometimes I wonder about the child, lol.

I'm just grateful, period. Too many things to list, most of 'em would bore or confuse y'all. This is the best of times, the worser of times, to be alive. We are surrounded by miracles made possible by God and geniuses, and also surrounded by evil and filth thanks to Satan and his (sometime unwitting) minions.

Everybody be safe, enjoy friends and family, and don't watch too much TV so your blood pressure stays down. Although, if they're showing evacuation routes out of the city it would be wise to grab your Gone-To-Hell bugout bag and leave. Quickly.

Cheers! L'chaim!

Happy TG, everyone. A special thanks to you, Stilton, for your insight and humor that will surely add several very good years to my life. The Irish in me passes this on to you:

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I'm one'a those...thankful to be alive.

Anyone who don't like ersters in their were raised wrong.
Every Thanksgiving my sainted Mama would make 2 kinds of stuffing...everyone but her 'n' me ate regular , we ate the good stuff (sometimes my Daddy'd partake).
'Course, I've always liked knocking back 3 or 4 dozen onna half shell... I'm not a big eater but I like ersters, snails, sushi, mudbugs... I don't drink anything alcoholic, so that works itself out...ya'll here at Stilton's take up my slack so there's no underutilized beverages, and I take care of ya'll's allotment of those fine delicacies.
God's wisdom manifested in all things.

@Readers- What lovely messages above. I'm genuinely thankful for this wonderful community of friends and like-minded souls.

Regarding oyster dressing, I should point out that my Dad loved the stuff, so I concede that there are perfectly decent people who prefer their seasoned breadcrumbs to be adorned with oceanic snot-nuggets (grin).

"...doing good for others, rather than just whining that someone else should be forced to do good for others.

That's Progressivism in a nutshell. Or what I've always called the coalition of the unwilling and/or unable dictating to the able.

And it's not even necessarily doing good for others. It's frequently just "doing", just because.

I have to admit that I actually miss the Thanksgiving gatherings of years past at my in-laws, where most of the extended family was of that coalition of the unwilling. I wouldn't be the one to bring up various topics, but I would usually be the one to finish them. Good times. Can't imagine what that gathering would be like in the era of Trump, but I know it would have been entertaining.

The Econ family has, as usual, much to be thankful for. One thing is that our lives are what we call an embarrassment of riches, where we pretty much have everything we want or need, and have absolutely no desire to participate in any Black Friday madness.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Oyster stuffing sounds pretty good, actually, even though I don't remember ever having any.

Bummers, though, 'cause after years of enjoying shrimp, crab, cooked clams & oysters & scallops, the occasional lobster, and so forth, I've developed a shellfish allergy/"sensitivity" so oyster anything would be not-a-good-idea and possibly deadly.

When the shellfish problem started I used to still enjoy it by taking some benadryl before going attacking the crab legs or whatever, but finally the benadryl just wasn't enough. So I'm thankful I figured that out before a terminal reaction.

So no more shellfish (and I wound up living in coastal Georgia), but I have much for which I am thankful. Youse guys who can still enjoy the shellfish stuff please do so for my sake.

Again, happy Thanksgiving to all.

Pecan pie for breakfast, and Hillary is not President. Thankful, and life is good.

Speaking of Hillary, if you really want to see some Progressive circle-squaring:

Hillary Clinton: Europe must curb immigration to stop rightwing populists

Europe must get a handle on immigration to combat a growing threat from rightwing populists, Hillary Clinton has said, calling on the continent’s leaders to send out a stronger signal showing they are “not going to be able to continue to provide refuge and support”."

So Hillary sez that Europe needs to stop letting in millions of Muslims not because the Islamification of Europe is destroying Europe, but because if they don't, the deplorables of the EU are going to start voting for Trump clones.

If you read further, you'll find more pathologically-extreme delusion from the formerly assumed anointed President, such as arguing that "Clinton said rightwing populists in the west met “a psychological as much as political yearning to be told what to do, and where to go, and how to live and have their press basically stifled and so be given one version of reality. The whole American system was designed so that you would eliminate the threat from a strong, authoritarian king or other leader and maybe people are just tired of it. They don’t want that much responsibility and freedom. They want to be told what to do and where to go and how to live … and only given one version of reality."

Project much?

Sortahwitte said...

I saw that another left wing f*ck wit has spouted off. John "why the long face" Kerry was running at the mouth and spewed something of a similar thing. Do they all send e-mails to each other to co-ordinate their blathering? Like the cool kids in high school used to phone around to match their clothing for the next day? A pox in their nether regions to all of them.

Gee M said...

“a psychological as much as political yearning to be told what to do, and where to go, and how to live and have their press basically stifled and so be given one version of reality."

Could there be a better description of Snowflake? lol!

The message needs sharing, so lefties can develop group chants...and dress alike. So there's the MSM and online sites to get chanting points.

I like just one version of reality...I call it the "Truth", and once I get that in my sight I work from there.

Be Excellent, my frirnds!

Isn't the real question why are these nitwits so easily manipulated? Truth has no bearing on their thinking and neither does law breaking, cheating, felonious conduct. I suppose the Ends justify the Means type thinking is the norm in the young. It is an amazing thing to watch the disparaging of the great President being disparaged 24/7 after he has brought this country back from the brink of extinction. These nitwits do not realize they won the lottery by being born in this country but since they didn't "deserve" to win, piss on the ticket and toss it out.

now, i am confused.... the egg nog... i always thot it was brandy that got the 'nog' (see what i did there? maybe that was Brandy, the old neighbor who always seemed to have gentlemen callers bringing her gifts, but, i didn't know egg nog came in bottles)... does one get the 'spiced' rum for the egg nog? what if the meal included some wild turkey? would that be apropos?
